Have spent some time looking at Alexa and it seems like patch 1.05 has re-kindled some interrest in the game and increased traffic on the AoC websites.
http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/ageofconan.com
After discussions with Jackdog some time ago I got convinced that this is the best place to measure any increase in the player base. I have drawn my conclusion based on two points
1) after patch 1.04 in feb there was a spike in traffic, but it decreased rapidly after the patch and leveld off in the same region as before the patch. This time however it seems that there has been a general increase in the traffic after the peak has fallen back.
2) traffic after patch 1.05 peaked somwhat higher than after patch 1.04. I think its pretty fair to compare the two peakes and conclude that more people accessed the site with the latest patch.
Now, I know its still early and that traffic will probaly fall during summer, but there is a general feeling of renewed interrest in AoC from what i read on forums.
Also, patch 1.05 organised its feedback from the playerbase more structured throuhg a separate feedback thread that has worked well and probably made it easier to access info and discuss the patch.
Finally, i know alexa is a bad tool to measure traffic, but it is the only alternative i see. Xfire is to easy to manipulate.

Major patch + a number of articles and interviews in the gaming press does indeed lead to interest in the game. Question is how many of those with a renewed interest will go beyond the forums and curiosity to a months resub or a trial and how many will go beyond that to a multi month subscription.
But since we are looking at the forums as a gage now it is interesting to note that there was 21 pages of posts in the general forums in te last two weeks since the patch and going back another 21 pages goes back to around the end of May or appx 3 weeks. Yet if we look at the Xfire figures from Sunday, June 7th ( 8256 hours) and Sunday, July the 5th( 7916 hours) it shows appx the same amount of activity.
That leads me to wonder how much of the increased Alexa traffic is not due to new interest and or subscribers and how much is just previous subscribers discussing the patch. I guess we will find out on 12 November when the 3rd quarter financial report comes out.
I miss DAoC
its because they are giving this POS away for FREE now because NO ONE WILL BUY IT...
and well... since the patch 1.05 they are losing customers right and left.

1.5 does seem to be the fatality that FC feared, near everyone I know in the game has now left or is leaving after their subscription runs out, and the servers are starting to feel very empty, I am just sad that I wasted a year of my time on this junk.
Time to move on.
Even with the population increases on the major servers like Cimmeria and Tyranny in the US I think the forum traffic looks fairly consistant.
If you look at the traffic pattern there was a burst back near April as well probably when the Dev chat was going on for future patches.
1.05 did provide a decent boost to population but it's hard to tell from those numbers.
You have to jump on one of the larger servers to really see the difference.
So because people are going to a forum u think the populations is increasing?? lol Alexa is no measure of anything the numbers on that site have been proved to be misleading as idiots use all sorts of methods to increase traffics to their site. The domaining industry knows this full and well. Hell i check forums all the time, i like to read forums on variuos games does that mean its player base is increasing, what a stupid method to jusdge if a playerbase is increasing because the forums may have more traffic lol..
I resubbed both my husband and myself two months ago, after being gone neerly 9 months hoping they would get the game together. Wow. They didnt.
This is what patch 1.05 did.
It ruined all the characters I had a bond with. I dont have any level 80s in that game because I get bored to death around level 50. But I did have 3 characters all in that range. Afer the patch my powers were missing My feat points were needing rearranging. And I was like DAMN if you are going to COMPLETELY change ALL my characters... Why not just make me start all over? They arent the same characters I grinded up through the game. They arent the same that I did this... or did that...
:edit:
We have cancelles again... and wont be going back. ever.

After a patch with major changes for any class, Devs usually give a free 'respec'... it's not that hard to put your points back where you want them and redo your skills. If your complaining about that, then complain about neary every mmo with talent points or the like.
Currently restarting World of Warcraft
All MMOs do that when they make big changes to your class tree.
They made significant positive changes to the trees.
Polearm Guardians, Havoc Demos, Xbow Rangers, RA Necros, PoMs, ToS, HoX, DT's all had major positive changes done to their trees.
Unless you were one shot ToS spec or dependant on SC your tree is in much better shape now then it was prior.
There are 2 or 3 classes that were on the meh list with 1.05 but the rest are woo hoo! when it comes to their new feats.
Personally I was estatic about going in and finding a new spec with all the buffs to some of the classes I played.
Hell I even switched to all Lotus spec for my Sin !
i dont see any logic in your argument. although i dont play aoc anymore . but even i could see that this is done in all other games .paladins were the most weakest class when burning crusade came out .just before the wrath of the lich king, they made paladins so strong there was no match .same happend with DK ,now they are debuffing it.so if thats what you are complainning about, then i am sad to say current mmorpg world is not for you.
How is it hard to understand.
They completely changed my characters. They are in no way the same as PrePatch. I leveled them up, played the game... They became who I wanted them to be. I am not a PvPer. I am more of an RPer. I built my characters how I wanted them to be.
Then comes new Lets remake the whole game patch 1.05
Changing the characters I had made. Changing the characters I put hours n hours into.
All you have in this world is TIME. Everything else is extra. I do not like wasting my time. I made characters I liked. I enjoyed playing them. They changed the game. So I wasted my time. Its that simple.

Nothing was done that was really that drastic. A lot of people figured out what works well already, if you cant figure it out yourself, and dont want to ask for help, then reroll your free level50 character and choose whatever class you want. Either way your gonna have to relearn...which is suppose to be a fun part of mmorpgs.
