AMD & Windows Service Pack

ThriftThrift Member Posts: 1,783

I was wondering if this is true...My friend has an AMD and said he installed one of the Windows Server Packs (Im not sure which one) He told me that it messed up his computer. Like 5 different people told me if you have an AMD and get one of the services packs it will mess up your computer...Is this true? I want to know becuase I just pruchased an AMD but its not installed yet and I dont want to mess it up by getting one of windows services packs... (Windows XP pro)

Thx!

I have an AMD and I installed XP Pro service pack 2 about a month ago and am having no problems. It's probably just a rumor being spread by Intel because AMD is a far superior chip. ::::01::

I have an AMD Athlon 2600+ with Windows XP Professional and I decided to just install Service Pack 2 that everyone says is buggy, causing problems and destroyed their PC.

Strangely enough everything works fine for me.  I'm playing Worlds of Warcraft and Star Wars Galaxies as normal as it used to be when I didn't have Service Pack 2 installed.

My network in between my old Celeron 1.2ghz PC (running Windows 2000 Pro) is still working perfectly.  I'm still capable of logging onto my FTP site and upload files directly onto it without any problems.  Photoshop 8 CS still works great.

I don't see what the huge problem that everyone is having.

Actually it might be the fact that people's PCs are so infected with viruses and spyware, that when you install Service Pack 2, it destroys your PC.  If that's the case, re-format, re-install WinXP, update to Service Pack 2 and if it still screws up, don't forget you have technical support from Microsoft as long as you own a legit copy of WinXP :)

    If you have a copy, you're f*&*ed :)

AMD Athlon 3000+ here and I've never had a problem with SP2 ::::02:: and nobody I know that uses AMD (which is like everyone lolz) has had any issues either so my guess is its just anti-AMD BS.

As for stuff destroying peoples PCs you might as well blame sunspots or Ms South America if you don't want to point the finger at these actual users who have a problem ::::01::

Wheres the proof? Wheres the evidence?

I've been using an AMD Athlon 64 3500+ on an Asus A8V MB with XP Pro SP2 for the past six weeks about 16hr/day 7days/week and my computer hasn't frozen or crashed once yet (which I thought was a statistical impossibility::::02::).

i have been hearing this problem alot with the AMD 64 CPU's. You can uninstall SP2 if it causes you problems. All Windows XP come with SP2 now, im sure it is fine if all of the Windows OS's have them. My local computer store said this is a common problem, but I dont know anyone that has had them.

No, it is true that some AMD64s were having a problem with SP2 due to AMD's Anti-Virus instructions. I wouldn't use SP2, its a piece of crap anyway. Slows down my other pc, so I just left it off my amd64 gamer rig.
