Roleplayers behind NPC's?

How about it?

If developers would hire skilled and devoted roleplayers to play the roles of some of their NPC's in game?

The roleplayers would be given perimeters to function within. Their chosen character's personality, history, agenda, status, likes and dislikes etc. The roleplayers could not do whatever they want and they are hired after all :) but I imagine some of them would do it for free just to play that King or Queen or Dragon and whatever :)

The gameworld would feel more alive don't you think?

I have always loved a company of a good roleplayer makes it feel more real when they are really in their character.

I would love for NPCs to have more emotion/dialogue but the problem with implementing this idea is:

    1) Need RP 24/7

    2) I'm sure there'll be people that will try to troll the NPCs(lol)

    3) Imagine people hitting on female NPCs

    4) NPCs stay in one spot most of the time=utterly boring job location

    1) Even in game the NPC's are not always "up" or spawned or whatever so I don't see why it would need a person 24/7

    2) That they probably will :p

    3) They are hitting female players in the game already I don't see the difference.

    4) Ya thats bad game design. What if that King would go on a crusade, declare a WAR and whatever or the Dragon would soar the skies looking for prey. :) Remember we don't need them NPC's to be like they have been or are atm. That my whole point with this idea they would be MORE ACTIVE!

That two can be solved and make npc more real in easy way. Just make them like Morrowind does. Npc sleep, walk from place tp place, work, they may even go to pub after work ;) U know that npc u need is in town but where he is depends on time of day or night. If its middle of night then its big chance he will be in his house sleeping so u have to wait till morning. If u dont know what ur npc is doing or where he is why not ask other npc, maybe they gonna know. itp.

Yes that has been done already, but that way they will still be predictable and boring. They don't say or do random things. they are just a program.

That would be neat, however hard to pull off

Im completely happy however with GM events, which is something that has been lacking in mmo's lately (except in f2p games)

Dev's should occasionally throw in event's especially for players who have reached end game, helps bring people new expirences and makes the game feel a little more dynamic.
