Okay, so I put one of my Gateways in my daughter's room for her to use. A three year old now has a P4 1.5 with a Gig of RAM. I have XP Pro with SP2 on it.
My issue is, a lot of the software she'll be using is dated (meant for 98), it's a bunch of that living-book stuff, you can't get it for XP anymore I believe. But it's cute and she likes it.
But some of it bombs out. I've tried compatability mode, and I think that's a waste of time and mouse-clicks, but maybe I'm wrong .....
I don't have a Win98 disk anymore (but who does?), so my question is: Is it possible that putting Win2000 on this machine may act kinder to win98 software, or will it not even matter since 2000 and XP are both 32bit OS's ?
Cuz nothing sucks worse that trying to explain to a three year old why a program that she wants to play with isn't working on XP. I tried explaining OS compatability issues with her, but she just stared at me and sucked on her sippy-cup of milk.
So please, for the children, what do you think I should do? Install 2000? Actually buy a copy of 98 off of Ebay? Hide the CD's and pretend the whole thing never happened? What ???
