White Family Attacked By Gang of Black Teens - Hate Crime?

Why would they even have to think to consider this a hate crime or not?  Of course it is.  When they were yelling what they were yelling, what else was it?



 



Akron police investigate teen mob attack on family

Akron police say they aren't ready to call it a hate crime or a gang initiation.  But to Marty Marshall, his wife and two kids, it seems pretty clear.

It came after a family night of celebrating America and freedom with a fireworks show at Firestone Stadium. Marshall, his family and two friends were gathered outside a friend's home in South Akron.

Out of nowhere, the six were attacked by dozens of teenage boys, who shouted ''This is our world'' and ''This is a black world'' as they confronted Marshall and his family.

The Marshalls, who are white, say the crowd of teens who attacked them and two friends June 27 on Girard Street numbered close to 50. The teens were all black.

''This was almost like being a terrorist act,'' Marshall said. ''And we allow this to go on in our neighborhoods?''

They said it started when one teen, without any words or warning, blindsided and assaulted Marshall's friend as he stood outside with the others.

When Marshall, 39, jumped in, he found himself being attacked by the growing group of teens.

His daughter, Rachel, 15, who weighs about 90 pounds, tried to come to his rescue. The teens pushed her to the ground.

His wife, Yvonne, pushed their son, Donald, 14, into bushes to keep him protected.

''My thing is,'' Marshall said, ''I didn't want this, but I was in fear for my wife, my kids and my friends. I felt I had to stay out there to protect them, because those guys were just jumping, swinging fists and everything.

''I'm lucky. They didn't break my ribs or bruise my ribs. I thank God, they concentrated on my thick head because I do have one. They were trying to take my head off my spine, basically.''

After several minutes of punches and kicks, the attack ended and the group ran off. The Marshalls' two adult male friends were not seriously hurt.

''I don't think I thought at that moment when I tried to jump in,'' Rachel Marshall said. ''But when I was laying on the ground, I was just scared.''

Marshall was the most seriously injured. He suffered a concussion and multiple bruises to his head and eye. He said he spent five nights in the critical care unit at Akron General Medical Center.

The construction worker said he now fears for his family's safety, and the thousands of dollars in medical bills he faces without insurance.

''I knew I was going to get beat, but not as bad as I did,'' Marshall said. ''But I did it to protect my family. I didn't have a choice. There was no need for this. We should be all getting along. But to me, it seems to be racist.''

Akron police are investigating. Right now, the case is not being classified as a racial hate crime. There were no other reports of victims assaulted by the group that night.

The department's gang unit is involved in the investigation, police said.

''We don't know if it's a known gang, or just a group of kids,'' police Lt. Rick Edwards said.

The Marshalls say they fear retaliation at home or when they go outside. They are considering arming themselves, but they're concerned about the possible problems that come with guns.

For now, they are hoping police can bring them suspects. They believe they can identify several of the attackers.

''This makes you think about your freedom,'' Marshall said. ''In all reality, where is your freedom when you have this going on?''

    " Hate crimes" need to be done away with.  You don't usually assault, kill, torture someone without at least somewhat hating them.

     

    I mean if the KKK or Black Panthers show up at someones door and kill them.  They're going to get a shit load more jailtime just because the jury or judge will be disgusted.

    I was just wondering where those teens got their racism. From their parents maybe? I mean, it's either they've learned it from parents or peers. It's amazing how extreme they've become at their young age.

    The punishment for simple assault is not too bad.  However, when someone seeks out someone else just to terrorize them like this, then it is something more than just plain assault.

    I can get in a bar fight with someone and they can be arrested and fined for assault.  I'm not too worried about that once it is over.  But if a group organized like this comes after me, then it's a different story altogether.  Something is wrong in these peoples heads much more than just a bar brawler.  And they need to know that if they act on their stupid ideas then they will be punished because our society frowns on dumb asses who hate "groups" different from them for made up stupid outdated ideas.

    Stupid thug culture in our country.

    I live in San Diego and there are thugs like these gangs rampant down here.  People are afraid to even walk from their homes down to the beaches anymore.  You get jumped just for stepping outside your door and trying to enjoy your neighborhood and get some fresh air.

    These people are given a choice in life and they choose to act this way.  I have no pity for them whatever punishment they get for committing this crime.

    need to deploy the military into some of these neighborhoods. I mean there is really only so much the police can do, and these kids/people are more afraid of a guy in full tactical gear with a M16 then some cop with just a bullet proof vest, a taser, and a side arm.

    this sort of thing doesnt happen in the south (edit) without ending in gun fire.  Im more surprised by the lack of gun fire in this incident than anything.  Not by the teens, but by the adults. 

    those kids are lucky they didnt get their heads blown off.

    this isn't new for me. it's obvious. we don't know the reason why those teens jumped off the family. maybe the guy, who was mostly injured, did something to those kids way back. a further investigation needed on this case.

    He was lucky.  I have been jumped and even had friends of mine beat up severely in situations like that.  I was hospitalized after I got beat up after school and had to have emergency surgery.

    It's sad when a person is searched for and then targeted this way.  And once you've had a group jump you and beat you up, I promise you your view of the world changes completely.  It's like your whole brain changes and you become frightened to even go places anymore.

    But you look at these losers and you realize that you can't let them win by ruining your life that way.  They feel so smug in their groups and majorities.  Inside, they are really weak and need the feeling of belonging in a group.

    I definitely sounds like a hate motivated assault and/or battery.

    I do find it odd that there were no serious injuries. Just some guy with bruises talking to a reporter. I mean, seriously, a group of 50? Do you have any idea how much mob mentality that causes...and they were already acting aggressive before the violence ensued? I dunno, sounds a bit fishy to me. Still, hate motivated assault and/or battery should be the charge (unless there's extenuating circumstances).

    For this very reason they need to lift the restrictions off of automated weapons and grenades.

    I doubt they would have been so eager to deliver their message to the business end of a bazooka.

    The Creative Steps camp in northeast Philadelphia had contracted for the 65 children at the day camp to go each Monday afternoon to The Valley Club in Huntingdon Valley, camp director Alethea Wright said Thursday. But shortly after they arrived June 29, she said, some black and Hispanic children reported hearing racial comments.

    "A couple of the children ran down saying, 'Miss Wright, Miss Wright, they're up there saying, "What are those black kids doing here?'''" she said.

    The gated club is on a leafy hillside in a village that straddles two townships with overwhelmingly white populations. It says it has a diverse, multiethnic membership.
    Wright said she went to talk to a group of members at the top of the hill and heard one woman say she would see to it that the group, made of up of children in kindergarten through seventh grade, did not return.


    "Some of the members began pulling their children out of the pool and were standing around with their arms folded," Wright said. "Only three members left their children in the pool with us."

    Several days later, the club refunded the camp's $1,950 without explanation, said Wright, who added that some parents are "weighing their options" on legal action.

    Nothing justifies assault on other individuals whatsoever. But if you are asking how teens get their racism, it's not only taught in the home.

    Yep, Sharpton is also not in these kids homes, lol. Another good example of outside influences not only the parents.

    We have alot of this in the Dallas area as well, and it is not limited to any specific race. We have asian gangs, hispanic gangs, black gangs and The KKK ( which is a joke because they don't really do anything but put out flyers).

    My highschool sweetheart, we dated for 2 years in highschool, was shot over 200 times by a gang inititiation leaving work one night. He did nothing other than being the white guy they targeted. He was killed because of his race, and that gangs initiation was to kill a white guy, so they gunned him down on 635 several years ago leaving work. This was a black  south dallas gang that did this horrible act.

     My other friend was clubbing down on lower Greenville ave, there was an intoxicated guy he did'nt know argueing with an asian guy, so he tried to be a good person and waved a cab down for the guy,  gave the driver $50 and told him to take the guy home.  he told the Asian guy that was argueing with him , "there he is gone now,  we can go have some fun."  the asian guy just stared at him...

    He went to a couple of clubs after that, then walked into the restroom at one, and the Asian gang showed up behind him and ran everyone else out of the room. They proceeeded to stab him 7 times and then dragged him out of the club and left him on the street for dead. He layed there for what he told me seemed like forever, and it wasn;t until an officer who was trying to arrest him for loitering rolled him over to see him in a pool of blood did someone call an ambulance. he lived to tell us what happened.

    My friend was walking down the street in Deep Ellum, another club district here in the Dallas area, and a hispanic girl whipped out a razor blade and slashed her face while she was walking down the sidewalk. She said to her, " take that white Bish". that was all. The attacker was walking with a large group wearing gang colors. She received 21 stitches in her face.

    This is the reality of the hate we deal with, I have heard plenty of stupid things said against all races. Just because a few people act  like jerks, that does not make an entire race racist.  Every race has people that have commited horrendous crimes, stupidty is not limited to any race. All races need to work on this, and educate our young to know that we are all family.

    When race is used to build a person's self esteem they will become racist.

    I am always amazed when I see people walking down the street like they're safe, or something.......

    It's a PvP world out in the city, lottsa gankers and griefers.

    Only the wannabees are sitting behind their keyboard playing video games like Grand Theft Auto.
