I just signed up on the Champions Online page, and lo and behold, what did I see? A WEEKLY update as to the status of their PRE-CLOSED BETA code! Wow! What they're working on, what their devs are keying in on to 'polish up' and the likes.
While I may not play it, the difference in philosophy, and ENERGY is astounding. The fanOris should take notice...
It's titled 'State of the Game'.

Was it really too much to ask for from the SG devs? I really wanted it to succeed. I LOVE the franchise, I really do. It's just.. very sad.

Good or bad, the Champions Online people are actually working on a game and have something to show, so there is no need for a blackout.
CME has nothing and the media blackout is showing it in abundance.
Thing is, and I don't disagree with you, supposedly they are at the SAME stage of development. That's why I offer it up as a side by side comparison.
Very sad.
The energy and enthusiasm is oozing out of that page's pores, and they don't have anything for beta to test yet.. but they can still enumerate and point to things, keeping their fans in the loop. That is smart marketing. It's the PERCEPTION of a great product and pride in making their community a PART of it that will make it a success, even if it is niche.
Star trek Onine is sort of the same way. Just the alien creator concept and video is more than CME ever put out, and gives fans a sense that there is "something" actually going on.
Not being paid for 4 months (that is 1/3 of the total year! ) is pretty darn demoralizing. That, on top of mostly everyone being gone, it’s hard to know who’s in charge of what anymore.
So having little momentum from those who are left hanging around is expected. I would accuse Gary Whiting of pumping in happy gas if it was any other way.
If they managed to get pennies from heaven, and were able to over-pay folks to come work at CME again, I’m sure they would have plenty of ‘fluff’ to show you.
