Its been made clear that KOTOR mmo " will be " linear and story driven. I will not say that the mmo will fail but we need to look to examples based on linear story driven mmo's such as AoC and Tabula Rasa plus others. No doubt KOTOR will do well in the first three months but how will it do after nine months when players have reach the end of the storyline and become bored without any player housing and crafting.
Ok, first off...this upcoming game is NOT KOTOR..they have stated that theyre NOT making KOTOR....it IS an old republic game..but set a long time after the setting of the second KOTOR game..and you MAY..or MAY NOT come across some of the characters from the KOTOR games..but from what ive understood from the little they've actually said....you are NOT playing the same people/characters in the same game.....so get that out of your head already..
Also, why so much hating for a game thats NOT even close to being released yet...so many seem to have decided to hate this game thats not out..so people cant play it yet....before its even available for demo..if you lot have already decided what will or will not be good or bad about this game..then hey..go to Las Vegas..and put it all on a horse..or a dice roll because youre all obviously far more advanced than the rest of us who are NOT carrying around the future-telling gene..im so sick of hearing people put stuff down that they have no clue about yet...the truth is none of you know what this game will play like ..so why dont you just keep an open mind for a change??..or dont bother posting?

what you see here are opinions, everyone has them to one degree or another. but these opinions are based on what information has been given out already, it may be incomplete, in which case with more information, those opinions may change, or maybe yours will, you dont know, but starwars is a genre that has been beset with lacklustre performance and outright betrayal, just remember some of these companies histories! (E&B anyone?) but your right, until the game is released and we can see exactly what is in the game, its probably not right to set opinions in stone about how the game will be, its just that at the moment, the way the game appears to be developing might not be what people were hoping for.
It will just turn around to bite me in the ass like SWG did. I won't do that again. I have ever confidence this game will capture none of what made SWG great before it was destroyed by SoE, I believe this game will be just another generic MMO like WOW, aimed at kids and the lowest common denominator of PC users; The only difference being you have jedi running around everywhere. I believe being developed by bioware is irrelevent in the grand scheme of lucasarts pursuing profit, as such the pressure to great a generic and dumbed down "accessible" game with low end graphics will be overwhelming.
Our opinions of this game are similar bud, but if you are seriously believing this is going to be anything more than pure theme-park, you are just wasting your time. You sound like you need to start looking at some of the indy MMO's coming down the line. Yes, they will be niche games like EVE is, but they are shaping up to be interesting. SWToR is a mainstream MMO that is going to cater to the casual, solo-loving masses. They are going for huge sub numbers and the only way to accomplish that is dumb the game down to oblivion just like WoW.
I'm keeping an eye on Earthrise, Fallen Earth and Mortal Online. Right now Mortal has my attention because it's going to have a serious sandbox world which will be a lot like SWG. Google "Mortal Online Powerpoint" for details from the devs, then visit the boards. I'm not huge on Fantasy games, and I've been waiting for a decent Sci Fi MMO for what seems an eternity, but if MO delivers the kind of open ended gameplay they are promising, it may spawn another awesome, diverse and interconnected in-game community like SWG had pre-NGE.
A sure sign that you are in an old, dying paradigm/mindset, is when you are scared of new ideas and new technology. Don't feel bad. The world is moving on without you, and you are welcome to yell "Get Off My Lawn!" all you want while it happens. You cannot, however, stop an idea whose time has come.
I'm utterly shocked that so many people, under the banner of 'casual', are so utterly opposed to grouping. I've never heard so much seething hatred for having to group with someone to do something. What's the point of playing a multiplayer game if you arent actually going to play with anyone else?
It's not that people are opposed to grouping itself, it's the class reliance and the time it takes to get a working group up and running that people are sick of. I remember wasting hours in WoW standing in IF doing the old LFM <insert class here> bullshit and it wasn't fun at all.
One of the few good things WAR did in this regard was the open group system where you can just jump to amenu of groups and join without all the searching ect.
I don't mind however long it takes to group. Solo play in MMORPGs is worthless and not fun, IMO, so while I'm waiting on a group, I'm not missing anything.
What would I be doing if not waiting on a group? Grinding mobs solo? Grinding quests solo? No thanks.
I mean sure, I'll stand around and wack the occaisional mobb while waiting for a group, but I'[m not interested in trying to make any real progress solo. It's boring and no fun.

You take adding features and giving a good gaming experience to players as dumbing down? If thats the case hell they can make this star wars game into that and i will play it forever same with wow, while u can stick with ur pieces of crap like swg. Some of the biggest sandobx no mmo games in the world cater to the masses, maybe they are all dumbed down, but obviuosly they cant be because they are sanbox. GTA,spore, second life etc etc. Adding features, and making a game to give a good gaming expeirnce does not mean dumbed down you tool. Maybe if more actual mmo developers relaised that instead of reading what retards like you say they would suceed more. Instead they listen to retards like you that think a game that is virtaully incomplete and with no features is somehow sandbox and hardcore, and that the playerbase should just figure things out for themsleves, newsflash this is a game, and they are meant to be fun to the playerbase and not bloody frustrating.
I love this. For years people on this site have been whining about "rabid SWG fans" and now many of you are rabid SWTOR fans yet you haven't even played it yet. Listen, kid. People have different opinions. I personally don't care for theme-park games and prefer open-ended sandboxes. Currently the MMO genre caters to solo/casual game play, and many of the details found in older games have been removed to make the games take less time and effort to play. This makes them appeal to a larger audience and makes the game publishers a lot more money. In fact, games like WoW and SWTOR are hand-holders. As much as you hate people like me pointing that fact out, it's the truth. You find my style of MMO frustrating, and I find yours mind-numbingly boring. To each his/her own.
You are more than welcome to enjoy that type of game, and you should be in heaven now since the vast majority of games existing and in development will cater to you. Getting pissed off because other people don't like the same things you do is ludicrous. Grow up. All I was doing is suggesting that the OP was looking for a more complex and open-ended game, and if he thinks SWTOR is it, he is mistaken.
Take note: SecondLife is not a game, it's a virtual world. You can build games within it, but SecondLife itself is not a game. For some reason people on this website have a hard time understanding that fact.
You should also shy away from calling people retards when your writing is barely understandable.

Anyone who can get this worked up about a game before anyone has a real idea what the game will be like .. really needs to get outside more, or needs his medication increased.

I didn't get worked up at all. I was laughing my arse off at his post because it's hilarious how bent people get when you have an opposing opinion about a game they have fallen in love with. We just have different ideas about what is fun in an MMO, and I respect that. It doesn't take rocket science to see where this game is headed though, and all I am doing is pointing that out. I think it will probably be a huge success, but that doesn't mean all of us will like it.

Wow, same old anti SWTOR or BS and no real information to base it all on. lmfao. Looks just as ridiculous to me as it did a week ago. Back to ignoring these MMORPG.com forums again. xD

I fail to see any support for it being a GOOD game.

It's great that you refuse to get your hopes up and believe this will be anything bu total crap, now you cannot be dissapointed by what they produce and it will exceed your expectations a hundred fold.
Now that Mythic is getting their claws into this game, it might very well turn into the usual crappy, hardcore MMO like all the others, only with better story lines. Why the hell would Bioware want to bring in this company for advice when they are trying to get away from all of the old school crap that already exists. I had high hopes for this game being different, not just the story, but the way it played, the emphasis on casual and solo play with optional grouping and Mythic has proven to be the exact opposite and that does not bode well for the original direction of this game.
mythic is NOT getting there claws into the game as far as I have read. From what I have read/heard Bio Ware has access to mythics stuff IF they want to check out there platform/engines/programing etc., but as some are saying we dont know its going to be krap til it comes out...hope for the best, dont get your hopes up/get to hyped.

My concern is that EA and LA will have a fit because it will peak out with 350k steady subscriptions that equal $5,246,500.00 a month in North America. which will equal $62,958,000 a year. And they will consider that a failure because they will not have reached WoW numbers instantly. Gamers will call this game a failure because there will be server problems on launch stating that WoW is perfect and TOR is Bio-Fail. But they will forget or not know, that WoW was bugged upon release and servers crashed. It will be the typical whiners festival on release. The hope I have is that BioWare can remain "bioWare" and release a "BioWare" quality game that they are known for.
I bet TOR will settle at around 1Mil subs 3 months in and steadily grow from there.
