Enjoy. Very informative and encouraging for those of us who love PvP and haven't been able to really experience it yet.

omg hilarious comic, good read
Far from a WoW-fan myself (now days anyway, was a big fan of vanilla and TBC), but that post is rather vague. Now days of course WoW is a bit of a zerg-fest but I find the OP/TC of that topic over-simplifies WoW (and maybe other games). Aion may or may not be more complex (probably is from what I can tell) but that doesn't mean people can throw empty arguments at it. e.g. Professional WoW matches (during TBC anyway) were very complex, and were based on split second reactions all the time, etc. Maybe his point was that the bar of skill is higher in Aion because skills are more skilled based? Hence not comparing more professional/hardcore videos from both games? I don't know.
I just believe that WoW-bashing should be more justified then this. Considering his experience, I'd think he could give us a more indepth reasons to why the combat is so much more skill-based. But alas, his work is a complete let-down with no details what-so-ever a part from random videos.
Anyway, I'll read through the other posts, see if he does get more indepth or if someone else does.
I have to agree with the above poster. That post is vague.
WoW isnt all about 2-3 second battles. Sure in BGs but thats cause your alone sometimes and you get 5 ppl on you.
But theres Arena. That can go on forever. My longest lasted 55 minutes.
So I have no idéa what this dude is talking about tbh.
Those forums are full of fanbois who think the game is 100% perfect and no one should never critize and/or suggest changes to the game. That guy who posted is one of the worst and full of bias.
1 Hype thread should be enough.
Coming from somebody who has now preordered the game: The guy has no clue about WoW PvP, at all. He wasn't even ranked and I can tell he never even attempted WoW PvP, but youtubed the first thing he had found and posted it. All of the videos there are of battlegrounds, the mindless zergfests of WoW; there are no arena vids of high ranked matches. While the pillar reference is cute, he still doesn't understand that 2-3 shots are virtually defunct in WoW. Fire mages have the ability to do that, but they are still extremely random and require a lot of luck as well as CC to pull off given the potency of healers in WoW.
He also linked horrible AoC videos on top of it with low levels ganking other low levels in old content..
I guess it was supposed to be funny.... 3/10 for effort
This is a sequence of characters intended to produce some profound mental effect, but it has failed.
Yep, read the post, watched the videos....
OP is very biased towards Aion.
I don't know much about AoC, I couldn't stand the game past Beta...
But WoW, yeah I've definitely spent a very large portion of time doing PvP in that game at all levels, open world, battlegrounds, and in Arena.
If anything the videos he showed in his post make Aion look exactly the same as WoW PvP but a lot slower.
Just two characters sitting around beating on each other for the most part.
The assassin play was JUST like the Rogue, and I've seen videos of Sorcerer (whatever the mage is) PvP in Aion and they are EXACTLY like the Boomkin video he posted.
The game mechanics are very similar, it's just a question of what the point of the PvP is, and in that case I'd say Aion at least tries to make PvP about more then gear and personal stats etc. then WoW does because of the open-world seige and RvR type of stuff. So I give Aion credit for that. Time will only tell if it works out or is just another Eastern gankfest.
A good duel in WoW can last 10 minutes... it's all about strategy and timing and knowing what your opponent is going to do and being able to react to it, prepare for it, and counter it.
I do most of my PvP in WoW as a Protection Warrior, so I'm definitely not a fast killer but I have enough silences and stuns and other CC as well as enough debuffs/self buffs and defensive counters to beat just about anyone. I'm 10x better at PvP as Protection then I ever was at Fury or Arms.
So yeah, biased OP. Doesn't look any different.
Actually, the point of PvP in AION is exactly just that. Gears and personal stats. You siege fortress so you guild gain the benefit from that and get badges so you can buy higher level PvP gear. You PvP to get Abyss Point which you will use to get gear and skills. You PvP to claim bosses which drop big phat lewts.
It's all about gears and personal stats my man
It just emphasizes more on open world PvP.

Well that sucks.
I mean, yeah you have to reward people and give them incentives to fight.. but...
I dunno once, just once I'd like an MMO to motivate me to fight my enemy for reasons other then gear and loot.
Like actually creating pride in my side and for my team and making me care about losing or gaining territory from the bastards on the other side.
Oh well... maybe one day someone will figure it out.
Well I think Aion is a little less about stats from what I gather (which is a very good thing imo) and more about player skill. WoW is fun though too.. I never bothered to click the link but I can say that bashing a different game is not a good way to make your to make your game look good because it just ruins your credibility. In fact there is little reason to mention any other mmo.
What is with these Aion fanvoys and getting so obsessed over this game? It has broughted nothing new to the table, and yet they obsess over it and claim it is the new coming of the Christ.
It must be the whole anime thing.

They tried that with Warhammer and we see how far that went. So then they added loot rewards and it was still not worth it.
I don't see why people reference this to anime, Aion looks nothing like anime. If people wanted a game that looks like anime then they would be playing Flyff.
I am moving to Aion as soon as it releases. That said ...... that was a horrible write up on Aions PvP. It explained nothing of what makes Aions PvP better or Great. The videos used for comparison looks between WoW and Aion were absurdly biased... and I don't even like WoW. The "Skilled Assassin" video was not of a "Skilled" assassin ... I'd say the player of that character was mediocre at best. He had NO situational awareness at all ... which is HUGE in PvP.
Aions pvp will have its perks, much like all pvp games do. It will be up to the player to decide if they like Aions flavour more than "Other title".
right it is.... all he's syaing is look how bad wow and aoc are and look how awesome aion is.
There are many different styles of anime.
Aion does like like anime.
We're talking more serious anime not the kiddy stuff.

Yep, they had RvR in Warhammer and at first it was just for the sake of RvR. But, nobody did RvR, they were too busy leveling in the scenarios. Then they add PvP loot, and now everyone just grinds for that. Warhammer never tried to incite loyalty to Chaos or Order. They never tried to build a community of trust and comaradarie. They never tried to make territory matter, except in order to get to the enemies city so you could open up a PvE instance. Almost every zone was two parallel straight lines through with a tiny little area for open PvP. The scenarios were great, but out of the 10 they had, you could usually only get into the same one over and over and over again. So yeah, they might have tried, but they did it wrong. Now its time for the developers to get it right, please
Vault-Tec analysts have concluded that the odds of worldwide nuclear armaggeddon this decade are 17,143,762... to 1.
Personally what I don't like about a lot of members from aionsource is that they are quick to bash out WoW and WoW players, yet in actuallity, a HIGH MAJORITY of players from WoW and WoW vets are coming to Aion and to the fact that I don't know why these type of fanboys don't show respect and open arms just make me crenge inside. Stay away from those legions. I mean I know with the changes in WoW I'm hearing, a lot of people are backing down, but don't punish the hit that Aion is using to suck blood from (meaning don't be vage, biased or a superfanboy).

RISING DRAGOON ~AION US ONLINE LEGION for Elyos
It's interesting so many of you even cared about his comments on other games. What I loved about the post was the video and information on AION PvP.

Well the complaints about his post are more about the biased presentation rather than the point about Aion pvp.
I've not posted much on Aion because frankly I wasn't interested at first anyway (im still on the fence). But from what I've been reading and hearing on the pvp it's alot better than WoW. Sure it has some of the same offerings like gear and stats but buying those things actually DeRank you. You'll have to constantly regain your rank but that being said it makes for a learning curve of when's a good time to buy or not. Also there are other things besides gear and stats you can pick up. If you reach the absolute maximum rank in PVP you have the option of spending your rank points (or whatever you want to call them) to become a massive Raid Mob. I believe its not obviously in the US beta since it requires you to be rather high level but it is of course in the currently released version of Aion from Korea.
Also capturing keeps is pretty important if you want access to specific content. Your realm (not your guild) can only have access to these specific dungeons if you have hold of the Keep nearby or above them. There is also a 3rd rather smart NPC faction that if I remember correctly plays like a DAoC faction where its either everyone's enemy or just a particular group's enemy at will.
1.5 also introduces airships which players can fight to take over and then fight each other for control. Since its not alot of instant battling crap hola i'd liken it more to DAoC with a mix of what we thought Warhammer would have over WoW anyday. The only similiarity to wow is the Gear factor and to be honest..who really cares at this point..Every game is going to have Gear or something worth grinding to get ahold of. Its the nature of the MMO beast.
While guilds will be important it'll be the over all Realm as a whole that I think will be far more important atleast I hope. It all comes down to how the community behaves.
btw i think the overly biased videos make the article not worth reading.
Well then I apologize folks for not reading the linked post more carefully. I was so taken with the AION PvP info. and video, I really didn't pay any attention to comments on the other games.

I love the part where the guy lists a year old video as reference to AoC's pvp. Someone should inform him that AoC's pvp has since recieved a giant overhall, and fights dont end that quickly anymore.
My problem with this PvP post isn't that it bashes other games, it's that it overlooks how the sorceror can 2-3 shot other classes.
The post made good points about how other mmos pvp is oversimplified, or clearly imbalanced.
Overlooking the sorceror isn't a matter of bias, it's simply a hole in his argument that he didn't/couldn't refute.
Otherwise an interesting read.
I played aion beta, and now I have pre-ordered it, the game does not have any "new and groundbreaking" features or gameplay that I can tell, but if thats all that made a good game almost every other genre of games would have been long gone by now, just for example, look at the similarities in gameplay in most fps games, does that mean they are not good because they didnt revolutionize the fps genre?
There have been many games that influenced the way aion is as a whole, warcraft is just the most widely known and not even the "new and groundbreaking" game everyone seems to always be looking for but more or less a borrow anything from another game that players like and makes thier experience fun game, which is what aion seems to be imo as well.
I'll be playing Aion at release, I am a former subscriber from wow for about 3 years, and although I enjoyed the comedy of the post especially the kids running around the wall , I agree with the other posters that there is no need to bash to get people to look at this game, it seems good enough to stand on its own.
