I fail to see any evidence of Darkfall's graphics being "realistic". It's either all brown / grey, or fursuited volfman things running around with cartoon eyes.
I haven't really seen any other pictures, since it seems almost all are playing the volfmen. I did see some armour, however, and that just looked silly, with huge helmets.
Wasn't this game meant to looked "realistic"?

If that is the case for your eyes you next move should be.....
what exactly?
For me, I like the graphics more so than EQ2, realistic or not.

To be perfectly frank, EQ2 is ugly as sin.
"Endurance is one of the most difficult disciplines, but it is to the one who endures that the final victory comes."
Darkfall's graphics suck. Still, being "realistic" means you're going to have alot of browns and dark colors. Especially in a medieval/fantasy setting. Sorry, the world isn't clowny and cartoony. Look at LoTRO and AoC if you want realistic graphics. Though AoC's trees look pretty bad from a distance.
AoC looks like it could be promising in game however I have look at a TON of LOTR screenshots trying to understand wtf you and others are talking about. I very franckly do not see it.
Then again, I thought EQ2 was just a slight cartoon upgrade from WoW.

While AoC's style is overall more realistic because LoTRO has more a rosy, scenic aspect, especially in Elven areas and whatnot, I meant that the graphics engine in LoTRO produces very realistic graphics. So the buildings look real, the trees look real, the sky, the water, the ground, etc.
well awhile back there was a long conversation into what is realistic and what is not and most of it didnt even matter. What does matter is a persons personal reaction to what they see.
Now be it "realistic" or not. When I see EQ2 and LOTR it doesnt feel "realistic" to me. When I see DF it looks more "fictional realistic" to me than does LOTR.
HAVING SAID THAT! Technically Oblivion is more "realistic" than Morrowind but in all honesty I perfer the art direction behind Morrowind than I do Oblviion.
I guess the short point is, I dont like the graphics in LOTR and I do like the graphics in DF.

Real life brings repetition and pointlessness too. The only thing real life offers is Great graphics. Its kinda expensive too and way to dependent on the cash shop. Totally pay to win as well. No thank you. Ill stick to my games.
I tried the lotro trial and the graphics are pretty nice, feels more peaceful than when I play darkfall where you get a sense of danger everywhere.
I quit Darkfall for a host of other reasons. The ugly graphics was not one of them. Yeah they suck, but I can ignore that easily enough. And no, not going to just leave it at they suck, here are a few things that I considered poor in this amateurish attempt at a game.
The only thing that made the trees better than what you found in the original EQ, was the actual textures had a higher resolution. It was still a simple 2d construct for the branches and leaves. As soon as you got close, the paper thin branches were glaringly obvious other games have been doing better for years.
The haphazard way things were laid out. You'd have an area of ground cover that would disappear into a rock or tree and come out the other side. Looked very much like a randomly generated landscape with no attention to clipping or anything else.
The overall lifelessness of the game. Run away from a town and get up on a hill, turn and look in any direction and basically see....nothing....just the trees and rocks. The sky was okay, nothing that hasn't been seen in most any other game of recent release. The lack of any kind of flavor made it feel like a drive through Nebraska in August. I'm not talking about PVE fare that you can't move without tripping over. How about anything, rabbits, squirrels, deer...anything...to break up the monotony.
The avatars were just plain crap. The elf type thing I was playing reminded me of the avatars from Anarchy Online. All thin and sharp edged with ungainly movements. The dwarves looked better, if barrel-like. And everything had a kind of sheen to it when you looked at the armor. Even the cloth/leather I was getting as goblin camp drops.
I would say in my own opinion, which only really matters to me and what I enjoy, if I was playing a game only because it looked good, Darkfall would not be on the list of choices. And realism should not be in the same sentence with Darkfall.
i agree, the landscape is decent but character models and lots of other things look crappy. however, it doesn't seem like aventurine is paying attention to those aspects as much since the player base haven't complained about it or offered suggestions that much
Honestly, I wouldn't complain either. As long as the gameplay is there to keep me interested, I'm not a real big, has to look pretty to be "immersed" type player. I just found the gameplay wasn't there. Nothing to do outside of fight or harvest. I want to play in a sandbox environment and have choices.
the group you play with is important also, i wouldnt be playing if i was solo or in a worst clan
Darkfall graphics are a combination to be honest. The environments are rather "realistic", and look fantastic, but characters, items, etc, are "stylized realism" in the fact that they look better than other games, but you can obviously tell they aren't real. It's similar to EQ2.
pretty much this. DF's full-scene shadows and lighting put them near the top of current MMO graphics for environments, noone's disputing that character models aren't as good but that's necessary for DF's support of large battles.
thing i don't get is why anyone rages on DF's graphics when WOW has some of the lowest quality graphics on the market.
does it really matter? ... imo gfx means nothing if the game is FUN, df gfx is neither total crappy nor is it top notch. the game has other serious issues which AV has to fix.
i don't think they will ever be able to fix the easy possibility of hacking for example, but they should be able to adress everything else which currently makes the game less fun to play, first priority should be the grind / macroing, making pve viable and revamping the skill system. since the last big patch i have the feeling that they could be able to pull it off until the end of the year if the company survives.
it would also help if they give the community the feeling that they care about their playerbase. deleting and locking threads left and right doesn't help alot imo. maybe silencing tasos and hiring someone who is competent in public relations would be a good start.
they have such a bad reputation at the moment that it's time for them to finally get their shit together.
jedi mind - heavenly divine, steadily shine in '99!
Of course they are not meant to be realistic it is fantasy world.... Doh.
And why do you feel the need to write a post about the graphics? To troll? If you don't like them then keep your opinions to yourself.
Doh.
Lies Lies and more Lies.
Saying WoW has poor quality graphics is like saying that Watchmen had poor quality drawings, because it's different from the rest and suits a WIDE variety of tastes.
Comparing Darkfall to the rest of the market is like comparing a child's scribbles to William Blake's paintings.
( Also, what's with the attempts to bring WoW in the conversation. Dude, really. )
"Endurance is one of the most difficult disciplines, but it is to the one who endures that the final victory comes."
To be honest, I don't get the people who give that much credit to how's the art style, if the gameplay is great, I can overlook cartoonish graphics, like in Wind Waker.
Over sized swords and spiky hair aren't very attractive to me, I'll give you that, but those things are not next to my top priorities in a game.
They are updating graphics and animation all the time so its not as if we are stuck with them. they are very good for MMO anyway, dont bother comparing them to single player games.
