The expansion pack is supposed to fix up the upper leveled islands like permafrost before players get high enough to fight on those islands. It is also supposed to add PvP elements like arenas. New races too. IGN forums got into big fights on this expansion's rumors.

Do you guys mean a retail expansion or downloadable update? Sounds like the latter (and I hope it is) but I was wondering if you guys can link one of the discussions here.

I personally don't no, but like most mmorpg's I'm sure an expansion if not more then 1, will be seen sometime in the future.  Probably depends how well people like playing, and how many actually stay with the game.

    Yea that is true.

Sadly, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if this was a new expansion.

They did it with EverQuest. They basically drained every dime out of it they could with expansions. OOW was good, but kind of sucks now since they seem to have nerfed everything.

I wouldn't doubt if they took the same rout with EverQuest II. People eat through content so fast, but Sony seems to release it to fast.

If an expansion is coming out, wait about three months before buying it. Lol

I thought WoW was a game that needed content for the people already reaching max lvls in the game? Maybe Blizzard out to be cranking out the ol' expansions. That being said is WoW for the casual or hardcore gamer, is EQ2?

Just because they are working on an expansion doesnt mean it will release soon. it may not come out for a year... I think they should wait 1 year before releasing an expansion pack.

Bah SOE will put it out as a purchase expansion. they love to gouge you for every penny they can I.E the all acces or legends people get more char slots (dont mind that every game out gives you that for free) plus we will give you PVP (which was promised at the begining "new inovative pvp city faction system" look it up they did say that then said they didnt) and dont get me started on the froglok thing "server wide quest to free the frogloks" they just dont have the armor skins worked out yet thats why the "quest" isnt out there many VERY BIG and organized guilds cant find the darn quest. SOE lost me and ALOT more when they lied to us then had the nerve to gouge us for "extras". Im not a Fanboy so im not gonna take this crap im a customer and they can care less about us and what we want.

I do remember very early on what they stated for EQII is not what it is now. I remember them saying that most the game was going to be mandatory PVP, similar to what UO was pre Trammel. I remember them talking about an example in the game of moving large sums of money. You would have to hire player guards and such because you could be nix'ed by other players and they could take your money. Banks were going to be isolated and your stuff would only be at one bank, not all banks.

That was the original statements that stopped me from continueing to look at EQ II later on down the road, and then I find out that the game concept has completely changed within the last yearish of development.

Wether all that is a good thing or a bad thing, well, I dunno, I don't play it ::::28::

    Expansion Packs
We plan on releasing 2 expansion packs a year. These expansion packs are going to be large, game altering additions to the game that will be sold both at retail and online via digital download. In the past, we've had one team that would work on an expansion pack, and then move on to the next one. This meant keeping a very fast paced schedule and the expansions smaller in scale due to the timeframe. We are changing the way we do things with EverQuest II. As of now we have two expansion pack teams that are working on different expansions... The first one is due to be released sometime in the second half of 2005, thus giving us more time to develop and add cool new things. In fact, you're also in for a pretty big surprise when you see our first expansion pack for EQ II sometime later this year. We aren't just focusing on the typical new content you've seen in past expansions to MMOs (our own included.) We're also focused on radically new gameplay elements that have never been seen before in online games.

For our international customers, we will be launching our localized expansions at almost the same time (hopefully within days) they are released in the US

Don't forget the little content updates that they are releasing 2-4 times a year (downloadable and $4.99 each if you want to play the whole thing). They should really be worrying about their current game.. 100% of their resources on it.

From what I see of the numbers sold, number of accounts created.. and people leaving and/or left SOE for a bug free (and damn good game) in WoW, SOE better recognize. WoW looks to have way better numbers and it's not even world wide yet!

BTW I'm basing this assumption that WoW is beating EQ2 on the ranking in sales (Amazon.com), number of servers each has running, number of posts on each official sites forums, video game sites and thier numbers, and in general what I hear when people talk about which they like better.

Going back to the topic.. SOE should really concentrate on fixing their current game.

You shouldnt be loking at just EQ2 you should be looking at how many sales the EQ Franchise has against the Warcraft Franchise. ::::09:: ::::18:: ::::35::

I am rather optimisitc on this. 2 a year I think will be a nice pace to go with.
