To change the resolution in games do I have to change the resolution I want in the game and my moniter? Or just the game I am playing?
So if I want to play HL2 on 1600x1200 do I change to that resolution on the game and my moniter or just the game?

why don't you try it your self? Its not that hard to just try it in game and see what happens.
Playing: Vanguard SoH
Played: EQ, Planetside, SWG, WoW, EQ2
...Just the game. just make sure your monitor supports the resolution your putting it on.
check your monitor manual pr go to the monitor website and see what resolution the thing can handle. also make your video card can support hi res. the other thing that is catch is refresh rate. what refresh rate is the flicker on your screen amnd the time to draw an image. the ideal standard is 75 mhz, yet some monitors allow for higher refresh rates the higher the rate the better the picture, not always though, also less headaches. The lcd monitor is an option and better quality picture but lousy at fps games.
also make sure you vsync is off.
This is the moniter im getting.

It has a good pitch, and 19" is perfect. 200 bucks. Im staying with CRT until LCDs become cheaper and better for gaming.
I want to play EQ2 at 1600x1200 res, my moniter can support that. So whats a good refresh rate to set it at? Im getting a Gigabyte 6800 GT 256mb so it can support that resolution.

Youll want to check to see the refresh rates at the different resolutions. My monitor has a refresh rate of 70mhz at 1600x1200, youll want at least 60mhz at 1600x1200.
Haha, "You'll want at least 60"
Thats the lowest all monitors go anyway. very helpful infos there.
Older monitors go lower than that
Thats still useful because im sure he'll be looking at an old monitor that reaches 1600x1200?
