Can't "re-evaluate" without loosing the special pricing? Time to uninstall...

When I first reactivated my account (from the re-evaluation email they sent out)   I saw a little banner at the top of the account page.  The banner had information about items and such that came with reactivating my account.  When I would click on the banner, it went to a subscription page to where I could purchase the game monthly at a 20% reduced price (which I believe was $11.99 a month)

After a day of playing AOC (less than 24 hours) I wanted to reactivate my account... but I can't seem to find the special banner page I was looking at.

Did they already deactivate this special?  I thought we had until the end of the month to decide what to do with our accounts...

Update... Seems they won't allow me to update my account to the special subscription...  Guess they lost me as a customer...

    Thanks.

The discount off the initial month, plus the unique items was only if you chose to reactivate right then and there.

The wording on the offer seemed to throw some people off. Whether worded poorly or not, the questions currently are on the wisdom of offering a one time only choice in a re-evaluation offer BEFORE you have a chance to re-evaluate.

Edit:  This is the message you'll receive from CS if you're inclined to inquire if the offer can still be made available to you:

"We are not able to manually give the offer to players. If you were not able to accept the offer after activating your free reevaluation, there is no way for us to give that to you. We're sorry for the inconvenience."

I'm not saying I agree with it, but it was clearly stated in the ad that it was a one time offer that you could choose not to accept, but that it would not appear again after that one time.

If I am unable to get this special pricing, I will not be resubscribing to their game.  Why would they force me to signup that 1 time and I was not able to actually download and play it until the next day.

I don't understand this company...  If they don't want me as a customer, I'll just go ahead and uninstall it...

If special pricing is the only thing that'll bring you back to the game, I don't think you're really that interested in playing it. You should try and remember that none of the other people playing the game get any kind of special pricing and even if you would have taken advantage of it, I'm pretty sure it was only 1 month.

If its only for the 1st month thats a different story...   But I am looking at it this way...  I want to pay the cheapest monthly rate for a good professional MMO.  I have looked into going to LotRO or AOC...  Since no other games are coming out soon, I have to have a filler game, so I want the cheapest monthly subscription for the best product...

I am just kinda sick of Funcom's shaddy business tactics... I wanted the special but then it just disappeared... making me think they don't care for my business....

PS - I am not going to play those cheap crappy free-to-play MMOs...

I believe you can still get a life time sub for Lotro.

man, what a huge problem...... ;-)

Ok, here is the solution. Search online stores for discounted 60 days time cards. there are tons available unless the game has become so populare that they are sold out.

The offer says for the first reccuring subscription. So if you wanted to you could get the 12 month recurring with 20% off so $64 off. I'm a bit baffled myself why they did it. Its like they fear people will not resubscribe or their offer is too good to still have the chance to take advantage of after the player feels he will play for a long time.

Yes its only 1 time (1 month or more if you chose more months).

And I hate Funcom's shady business tactics as much as you do, but what are you making such a big deal about a 3 bucks reduction?

Yes Funcom sucks, but the question is : is the game good enough to get your subscription or not? If yes, who cares about 3 bucks?

The way I looked at the discount was more or less rewarding you for making a blind decsion. You had the option to either make an evaluation of the game, or blindly pay for it. The latter offered a discount for doing so. Win win, in my book. If you Subbed and did not like it, at least you paid less. If you took the reevaluation, and decided it was not for you. You saved all your money. Decent enough offer in my opinion.

I really dont understand Fun Coms retarded marketing angles. Is there some cultural thing that isn't translating well outside of Norway?  Add this to The Big List of FC Marketing Failure.

For you Fun Com folks that live on this board: Go tell your bosses that trying to collect the money before your sales pitch is backwards in all of the known universe.

    @Malickie:

I guess that's one way to look at it, but what the hell is the rationality of rewarding people who are willing to buy blind? Is FC looking for the  "Yumm ... Shinys + Cheap!!! Must Have Must Have!!, Mom!! I need yer CC again!!" marketing demographic? How small a group is that? I dont get the strategy of this sales tactic.

You'd think they'd use the discount at the end of the re-eval as a Thanks for Coming Back! or a Carrot to resub for anyone sitting on the fence at the end of the 2 weeks.

The way they did the 20% off thing was badly handled. I'm sure they would have retained more of the returning vets if this was done differently. If not at the end of the trial then say a week or so, at least some days. Marketing isn't Funcoms best side

The smallest things set people off and cause them to avoid a game.  What they wont give you $4 off your first month outrageous!

i mean if you like the game, paying the current price for the box of $20 is a steal no matter how you look at it.  if $4 is that big of a deal perhaps your time is better spent.

and the whole "they tricked me" thing doesnt apply if you dont read the details to an offer.

Are you really complaining about 3 dollars a month?... wow.

  • TacBoyTacBoy Member UncommonPosts: 142

Note that I have not seen the offer (I did get my re-evaluation letter, but I feel no need to re-evaluate as my issues with the game are deeper than they'll change) but I suspect their reasoning is not as nefarious as you suspect. Although it seems pretty poorly communicated.

I would imagine that someone said "Why would someone subscribe immediately if they have some free time, that wouldn't be fair." and someone else said "Well, if they subscribe before taking the free time, pro-rate it to be less expensive to make up for it."

Of course, they didn't actually SAY that... so that is foolish. If that was their idea.

I know what you mean, but honestly in the end it's only a few bucks once (nothing wrong with wanting to save of course). Really  I'm glad I have the two weeks free to see the 40+ areas for the first time (I was 40 when I quit last year). It's really not a bad offer in anyway for me right now (not playing anything but a CB atm). It's been a diversion so far and I've had some fun, so I guess I'm a tad optimistic about the deal.

As for the "reward for buying blindly" quote I wrote earlier. I was being a tad sarcastic while at the same time serious (oxymoron I know). People love a deal look at micky D's 1$ menu sales and you'll see exactly how easy it is to make a sale (simply because it's a deal). Granted mmo gamers in general tend to be a tad older than "kids", you still get the same reaction. LOTRO people love that game and praise turbine left and right. Good game and highly polished sure, however the limited class/race issue alone in the game is warrant enough to hear some vocal bickering.

People get pissed about much less in MMO gaming (this thread :)). You see less bitching IMO, because the bottom line is turbine knows how to sell their product, and when you save money (regularly) you're going to be quite happy. Sure turbine does make decent games AC1 is highly regarded. As well as lotro (on it's gaming merits alone). However so is EQ2, but you have to look at the company behind the game. Because in the end that's who you're dealing with, if you're known to nickle and dime your subscribers they're going to be one hell of a lot more disloyal and dissatisfied.

In this case I'll be honest, I don't really know a whole lot about funcom. I know they created AO, I know they're behind the longest journey franchise. Which I must point out, when SOE nge'd galaxies I heard nothing but good things from this community in regard to AO. That game was recommended quite a bit to those who had left SWG. I barely noticed any flaming when it was mentioned. That's why I really don't look at funcom as a bad company but hey maybe I'm wrong.

Anyway for this deal, I see it as I said. They tried something from the turbine playbook. Offer it for less for a limited time, (in this case once). They were 'trying' to encourage blind sales. Turbine gets away with it, plus no one bitches about it. In this case it's funcom, they're the new SOE around here. What ever they do is going to be highly crticized, so I don't look to much into it. Eventually someone else will take over the title of the devil. Who that is, is anyones guess, hell it could be ncsoft over aion, I'll have my popcorn ready.

    SCREW FUNCOM!

I put in a trial key in my account to see what had changed in the last year. Nothing worth mentioning. Still full of gankers and zone enterance campers.

Anyways. I put the trial key in then my CC because I figured I would play for a month and give it a chance. After two day I changed my mind and cancelled my account.

Funcom thought it would be fun to charge me $15 anyways, then fed me all this, "there is nothing we can do." crap. Screw Funcom, screw their lies, screw thier empty promises. They should apply to be Obamas video game Czar. They are already as full of crap as Obamas administration. They should fit like a glove.

    SCREW FUNCOM!
