I haven't heard about this for a while. The ability to make actual characters and walk around in stations, do anybody have a timeframe for when it might come out?

everyone thought that it was scheduled for this winter, but a recent devblog has rubbished that, earliest is going to be next summer.
Why do you care? If you dont play eve now but join after ambulation is released, do you really see yourself enjoying flying around in a spaceship?

^^ this.
Seriously, Eve is about internet spaceships. If you don't like that then ambulation isn't going to make the game a winner. All ambulation is good for is improving on the game, not being its main focus.

is it just me, or when you clicked this link, you instantly woundered why OP didnt just put the forum topic into google plus the word EVE?
I will never see the actual point to having avatar usage in EVE, it just seems like it would be a pointless waste of time.

No, no, no, no...omg...you can never see why because you are not thinking clearly. ::smacks poster across the face:: Wake up! You're taking the wrong pill! ::stuffs her finger down the persons throat:: Come on...omg stupid! Why did you take the pill!
Seriously though. EvE is a perfect game for some fluff. Why? I'm going to tell you why in a new article I am writing for my blog. In the mean time. ::slaps the pills out of the posters hands:: No more pills! Got it!
As usual, it didn't take long for the EVE flamers to jump on the OP I see. They need to get a grip and realize ambulation is going to be added whether they whine or not. Fact is also 98% of all mmo's out there have full body avatars so if anything it should be surprising that EVE didn't have them to begin with, not vice versa. CCP took their time creating EVE in the first place, several years, so it also shouldn't be surprising that they are taking their time working out the kinks before they release it.
I'm glad to hear it even if it will be a long time. The avatar would really create some interest in eve for me.

Not so much jumping on the OP as it is pointing out that if one do not play/like EVE today there no reason to assume that one will like EVE after ambulation has been released.
And I'm afraid that if one "endures" EVE today for the sole reason that ambulation will be a saviour one have a fair risk of being dissappointed.
But anyaway, have there been a noteworthy resistance from current EVE players towards ambulation?
I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.

Oh man you're so right.. 98% of MMO's have Avatars.. So of course EVE should have them otherwise it will be different and distinct from the masses.
Shit why dont we just clone all of the MMO's into 1 game because they have to follow every rule of generic design right?
Fact of the matter is there is nothing to gain from Avatar usage other than to sit around in stations like wankers, chatting to people. Thats what second life is for, EVE doesnt need crappy fluff based xpansions.

How would having full body avatars make EvE more interesting for you?
You can't actually do something with those avatars other then running around on a station. It doesn't provide any more options.

Depends, i also remember a couple of years ago that they were showing a tech demo of a space ship flying in the atmosphere of a planet. Combining this with ambulation and in the future you might be able to explore/land on planets, which in turn can give people even more diversity. For example, give players the ability to build a small town/colony or harvest resources.
Sure, Ambulation at first is only a gimmick, but it does open a lot of new features for the future. of course... if you see how long it is taking to introduce ambulation in the first place, god knows how long it would take to introduce a new feature based upon it.

Im willing to bet at least 75% of the "too cool for ambulation crew" WILL be among the first to populate their closest pub.
That just doesn't say anything. 75% of what? What does "too cool for ambulation" equals, 1,10 or 50 percent of EVE population. I mean 75% of 1% of the EVE pop is next to nothing.
And again, where is that crowd?
Most post that could be considering negative towards ambulation have been towards those that plays or wait to play EVE merely because of ambulation, with a hint that those currently are not really liking EVE.

I'm assuming english is not your native language. But one thing was clear, you;re really emotional. You should consider taking a jog or even a holiday.
75% is an arbitrary number I used to illustrate my opinion. I'm expecting nearly ALL the people that disparage the value of ambulation are going to be some of the first to flood its new sphere of game-play. A huge part of Eves community tries to define itself as an Anti-Wow (standard MMO) platform. Ambulation and the avatar are reminicsent of traditional MMO's ...which are bad bad .. nasty stuff that only stupid or lesser people play /sarcasm. Therefore, many in the community are not judging ambulation on its own merits. Of course, they've not seen it or played it.
I'm also willing to bet that in some ways ambulation, especially to the devs, will be Eve part 2. The true second incarnation of a visionary game that not only elevates the gaming experience for you and I, but shows the gaming world an entirely new level of MMO'ness. Personally, I'm really excited!
Shure I'm emotional... And no, I am not going to take jog or a holiday. I'll just put you up on the list of people that don't expect, or allow, that their posts and comments are going to have replies or arguments towards them. :S

And there was one post that would fit into that group in this discussion. The other are saying and pointing their belief, a belief that I have posted about two times in this thread. Yet you are trying to hint that there a large(?) crowd that dislike ambulation. As again this thread have not bee leaning towards any "hate" towards ambulation.
Where is that crowd?
Of course, they've not seen it or played it.
Neither have you.

I'm pretty shure that even those that tries to say what I have been doing twice in this thread is excited about is aswell.
But to make it a clear question.
If one today do not like EVE should they assume or believe that they will do it when ambulation is released?
I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.
"You have the right not to be killed"
The answer is simple: YES!
I loved EVE, but I just couldn't bear it any longer to be just a pod in a ship.
Ambulation will NOT change the game. It will ADD to the game and make it better.
And sadly for you nay sayers. The vast Majority sees it in the same way. A Great adition to an already great game.
Cheers
Why sarcasm? It's true.
Of course it will change the game. Every sub does. You can't have a PVE game populated by PVPers...

And I simply disagree.
I do not think that one should assume that one will like EVE after ambulation if one today do not like EVE. On the other hand I slightly agree that on could believe than one will like EVE after ambulation if one today do not like EVE.
And that is part the issue arisen here. Simply because I in general feel that one should be careful about thinking that one will like EVE after ambulation, opposed to that one today do not like EVE.
That belief do not make me into a naysayer, that do not in any way say that I don't think it will add to the game and it don't make me say anything else negatively towards ambulation.
So I have asked about this a few times here. Where are those naysayers you are adressing, where are that crowd that don't want ambulation. I mean that crowd that one will take notice off. That crowd that is so many that one can use an "arbitrary" number towards to make a point.
Where is that crowd? Because they surely are not posting in this thread, and ofcourse I am not one off those either.
I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.
"You have the right not to be killed"
Okay, I guess this just needs to be put very simply.
Ambulation will not change EVE into a different game, it will just add something else to it. If you hate flying around in spaceships now, you will later too.
Now, Ambulation will open doors to more avatar play, but like I said, it's still all about spaceships for the next 4 or so years I'm betting... Then we can actually Ambulation and they can work on more avatar play :P
