I rarely if ever post but thought id give my two cents.
First the graphics on my machine run just fine on dx 10 i just turned the shadows off and im running around 40 fps.
Second i still love tortage i deo wish the game was like that throughout but then again that would have given the devs a real migraine im sure.
I like the vendor guy in tortage can post sales make some money.
The combos have at least imo gotten much faster i play a assasin and i just tear through mobs at my level or 1 to 2 levels higher.
Cant say anything about after tortage yet im at level 18 and finishing all tortage quests before i move on, did i mention i like tortage?
My ONLY complaint is player attitudes so far are pretty mean has in the global chat is lit up with O here comes all the old players coming back lets start spitting on them for their lack of faith.
Serioulsey it makes me want to vomit when i see vets harrasing the returning players in open chat.
Was thinking when i rejoined cant wait too see guilds etc and maybe alittle help from the vets but now thinking why bother with it when i havent seen any positive helpfull vets yet.
So in summation to my machine and eyes so far im enjoying it but the vet attitudes need a serious revamp to bad the devs cant recode that.

Many like the Tortage experience, but I think the game starts once you leave the starting area and enter the 'real' world...

The "community" back in june 2008 was about 1/3 of the reason why I left. When I "demo'ed" the game in november 2008 the "sommunity/playerbase" seemed about the same - just smaller...
Responses like these on the official forums (yeah the OP was "ranting"/expressings HIS feelings...) makes me feel like that I do not need to waste a few hours on reinstalling, patching etc. just to "re-try" AoC.

One thing that stands out above all others for me re-evaling this game so far is, the global channel is a sewer full of asshatz that FC should have perma-banned a year ago.
A country raised New Zealand girl can kill, bleed, gut, skin and butcher a sheep in about 40 minutes, the sheep are bigger than a large person ... so be careful about pissing off a NZ country girl.
Welcome back to AoC. I, too, am a returning player, been playing off and on since launch. I play on the Wiccana server and I don't see any new-player bashing. I do see an intense bashing towards people who vocalize their hate and discontent towards AoC in Global chat but that's understandable. But outside of that I think the community at Wiccana is awesome (thanks guys and gals). Maybe it's just your server, and if you're on Wiccana then you must play during some wierd times cause I'm on a lot and don't see the new-player bashing.

In the EU, I've been on three servers and my experience is that the global chat community's friendliness is inversely proportional to the server population :-).
Its easier said than done but the golden rule applies - find a decent sized guild of likeminded players - I was ready to quit in December when my 2nd guild closed on Hyrkania and grouping was all but impossible but made a new character of Aquilonia just to give PVP a try before I left - it was a lot less friendly than Hyrk on global and I started running into ganking issues at lvl 20 but then I happened to get a guild invite to (luckily) a friendly guild and haven't looked back. Since then, I barely read global at all. As a poster above said, check out the forums for a good guild on your server rather than looking for one in global chat. Hope you find a friendly one and enjoy the game.

I just returned on a 14 day trial and agree with what the OP said about the immaturity of the community.
However, as I had chars on different servers, I also tried playing there, and might I say it was a COMPLETELY different game.
Amazingly, people were helpful, friendly and talkative.
I'm not gonna say what servers I played in case the asshats migrate there, but I must admit that I nearly quit after 5 mins on the first server.

won the 30 day thing on the site. I use to play the game, i beta tested it aswell.
Some of the same bugs from beta..
Played about an hour or so, logged in another day fell asleep after about 15 mins of playing. tried it again fell asleep playing.
Tried it to day nearly fell asleep playing.
Game still feels like your playing in a fish bowl.
Forced quest progression. I hate questing in a game. to me it feels like a job, i play to get away from work. canceled sub again...

Wow....playing in a fishbowl? You did leave tortage right? Forced quest progression? Nobody is forcing you to quest, you can level quite quickly the f2p grinder way. I know some people flip out if they have to talk to an npc to go to another map, rather than run though filler landscape through invisible zone walls, not saying i disagree really, but its not a huge deal.
My guess is that you didnt know that (i think its level 10) you can get out of tortage without completeing any quests...theres plenty of games that are free and generally quest free...
Problem is, if the tortage quests were boring for you, your not going to like levels past tortage. There are a lot of quests in this game, while you could powerlevel and dungeon crawl the whole game, 1-79 go pretty quick when you quest where you feel like grinding.
What bugs do you speak of?
Probably not the game for you, too bad you wasted a 30 day trial that you won to figure this out in one day, rather than making a free trial...
ya think... i was in one of the biggest pvp guilds in the game at one time, before we all quite after our 80's out of boredom and spawn pads, and the lack of siege ability for our city with any numbers that could support our guild size.
And your right the games not for me, and not for many hence the loss of droves of players. Those facts are indisputable.

Hell the server i started on with Knights of eternal glory, has been closed.. It was the most populated pvp server they had at one time. The players on it nearly all quit.
You cant spin facts. Anyone with half a brain can see for them selves through the forums and other avenues of information of the web.
But , who cares i choose with my wallet. And in the end i am god.

This comment right here says that you should not be touching an MMO or a game for that matter. No matter what there is an end-game goal for what you do. Whether or not its in the game or sub-consciously. Think about it, why would you just sit and grind for hours on end...to hit max level or just level up. Guess what, we call that a goal/quest/mission. Even if it's just playing to do something. Or maybe you're playing call of duty 4. You're playing to win the game so in essence that is your mission, or quest, however way you want to look at it.
I think you actually level up faster if you quest imo.

Are you saying the game isn't for everyone, I almost fell asleep trying to read into what your point was? What is it I am supposed to be seeing, in all these references you're making? The obvious, nothing is for everyone?

Questing as used in my passage was referring to the A to B questing. Go kill XXX# bring me back (Blah blah blah) Etc.. Wash rinse repeat.

Cause they cant prove me wrong. The numbers, and forum posts on the main website reflect that the game is in serious trouble. Hence the come back to Age of Conan campaign. They know this so when a plant, or a fannie queen Fanatic cant disprove what your claiming they will attack you personally, When they do they show thier real intentions for even being here posting, fore Its not to comment on the game but to play attack and defend against the posters themselves.
If they liked the game so much or played it even then they would indeed be playing. Either way it doesnt matter much, i still wont spend another dime on the game period.

Sorry to disappoint, but I'm still here. As for being witty, who said i was trying? I was merely asking for the point behind your post. Saying a game is no good because you can find people saying it's not, while completely ignoring there are plenty saying the opposite is not a valid point what so ever. If you're not here to discuss a point why post at all? Or are you simply trying to get a rise out fo people? Judging from your last post I'd say that's a pretty big possiblity.

Yea read the topic, i laid my thoughts out on the topic, you laid yours out on me. Whats your point. Or should i ask whats your agenda, why not post the great things you feel about the game instead of tossing a silly comment with the intention to insult.
This topic is not designed for debate only comments.
The only debating that would go on with such a forum topic would be attacks on a posters personal view.
Frankly if you didnt get it then who frickin cares. Its my point of view in such a setting that makes all the difference, and no amount of Aggressive chat will change that fact.
Posts quoting me, responded in the form of attacks, in defence of a game, i defended my self in my response.
Big difference.
Only a fool would defend pixels. But im sure in some crazy way they appreciate it.
