I was just wondering how many of you are going to preorder this game so I can see if I have a chance of getting a limited edition before they are all gone.
Edit: The First round of beta invites start July 20th.
Digital download will also be available on Monday July 20th.

I'm not sure I'll be playing the game without some sort of demo first. I don't doubt the copies will fly outta there though.
*looks at the last major indie release (Darkfall)*
hmmm...no i think i will wait until this one is released before i buy it.
MMO wish list:
-Changeable worlds
-Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads
Even though I followed this game and love every bit I heard of it, I'm gonna sit tight and wait for the first in depth player reviews here, before I will dive in. I'd hate to have my experience of a new game like MO which is so high on realism and immersion, being tainted by those proverbial post-launch issues which will get solved in a few weeks time anyway.
My brand new bloggity blog.
OP: Based on MO site preview of shop you don't need to buy boxed or any physical edition but you can still preorder digital download. Or have they changed this?
Well I'm not sure if the beta is starting tomorrow or a few days later so the digital download won't be available until then.
Is the beta starting tomorrow though?
If they let us preorder the digital download one tomorrow and get into the beta then yes. Otherwise no. Just look at what happens with every single hyped mmo, by no means am I saying its guaranteed to happen again, but its happened so many times now and many people never seem to learn. The fact that, from their original plans, they planned to sell every version but the cheapest version for preorders to get into the beta seems fishy to me, and just shows how they are totally using the hype + beta entry as a way of getting large preorders rather than letting people get the cheapest option "to be safe".
I'll wait otherwise. I'm not in a rush to play it and I'd rather wait than waste my money - playing a game is very different to watching videos / seeing screenshots. I really hope it does live up to expectations though, could use a fantasy mmo with a change of pace.
LoL. Preorder a multiplayer online role-playing game? Are you new to this genre? In case you are, pre-ordering these kinds of games just gives developers that extra push to not give a crap about the game on release. They already have your money. And now they have a month after release to keep you logging in. Why not reserve judgement until a few months after the game has released and you can read some reviews? Are you seriously that desperate?
Vault-Tec analysts have concluded that the odds of worldwide nuclear armaggeddon this decade are 17,143,762... to 1.
it may work both ways, pre-ordering does give the devs money to release it at least in a playeble state. For example World War 2 Online ran out of cash in alfa state and released the game as finished, it was horrible, definitly the worst MMO launch in history. I am sure there were other such examples in MMO world.
Also most people are pre-ordering to get into beta which will run for at least 3 months without any subscribtion charges, so if you divide the price of the game buy 3 thats not too bad

Just when you think you have all the answers, I change the questions.
I've never really seen why people do this - play beta's full time. The whole point in mmo's is that progression and building up of character - the feeling of achievement. Yet beta's you know your character and everything you spent time on will just get wiped. I personally jump into betas and help find bugs and play the game for a short while. Otherwise by the time the game comes out theres no new feeling what so ever and its already a "been there done that " experience. Its what I'm doing with Aion at the moment, I tried the beta and really enjoyed how it played but I'm not putting any more time into it knowing that everything will get wiped.
Part of me wants the collectors edition, but part of me isn't convinced that the game isn't going to fall victim and be ruined by the same hacking crap that's been going on with Darkfall. I'm also torn by a few other games. Personally, I'm going to give another game a shot first, and if it sucks, hopefully by then I can judge if Mortal is a disaster or not and pick it up. I wouldn't plan on playing the Mortal beta for terribly long anyway because, as stated before, I don't understand why you would throw all your effort into something you know is getting wiped.

I can tell you 2 reasons neither of which are what a beta is for.
1: To learn the game mechanics so when the game goes live they know exactly how to play, what to do, where to go etc. Sort of like a leg up on the competition.
2: To see if they are even going to like the game. You know like a free trial.
If more people played beta's to find bugs and such we would have much better launches.
Waiting for:EQ-Next, ArcheAge (not so much anymore)
Now Playing: N/A
Worst MMO: FFXIV
Favorite MMO: FFXI
Living in a shit country where Post mostly lose or 'lose' your package leaves me waiting for the downloadable version. But I will most definitely buy it. I don't really mind paying for a 'closed beta' because if I like the game I can:
- improve its quality by submitting bugs.
- get to know the world mechanics - kind of a kickstart for when the game launches.
- get recruiting going for a guild.
- make sure I can safely cancel my WoW account
/R.
Better to be crazy, provided you know what sane is...

But this is what I mean. You can just as easily do both of those while testing, and without grinding out to max level and trying to get the best equipment/doing all the quests and everything else. The leg up is a minor one at best, and anything you're going to learn you don't need to spend 48hours nonstop to figure out. Theoretically it could be useful for finding bugs at the higher end of cap, but I still dont understand it.
