Since the number 9 seems to be a theme here, I thought this was a good list and pretty true for the most part. What got me to search for this list is a discussion I saw on TV the other night about how the internet is ruining porn, especially for women. There's no story anymore, it's all 5 minute clips of sex. That's so true. If there's one thing I can't stand, it's porn with no plot.

I'd throw Encyclopedia's in there on a serious note
11. Yard/Garage Sales (eBay)
12. Talking to Neighbors (message boards)
13. Chain Letters (chain emails)
And that is why...
Conservatives' pessimism is conducive to their happiness in three ways. First, they are rarely surprised -- they are right more often than not about the course of events. Second, when they are wrong they are happy to be so. Third, because pessimistic conservatives put not their faith in princes -- government -- they accept that happiness is a function of fending for oneself. They believe that happiness is an activity -- it is inseparable from the pursuit of happiness.
Sounds like improvements.

14. the element of surprise (once you've seen everything...)
15. what the succeptable think is cool (now being spoonfed by the masses at 4chan)
16. the age of chivalry (well that started to die before the internet but the internet hammered the last nail in the coffin)
17. the lost art of subtlety (we don't have time for that)
-for instance in Japan they have something called Yugen -“a profound, mysterious sense of the beauty of the universe… and the sad beauty of human suffering”, "mysterious subtle beauty". many people are too bored or too much wanting straight forward entertainment to care for thing like yugen that can be in our arts and entertainment.
18. what we think is funny (but this is true for all forms of entertainment that has deranged us over the years - starting at youth the media had highly influenced our sense of humor)
19. going outside and exploring
I haven't read the original list yet but I decided to make my own

#1 Information
People have a false abundance of information at their fingertips, but it is not the right information. The amount of information available on the internet is misleading at best and incomplete/inaccurate at worst.
Many people today forgo reading newspapers and traditional research --gawsh, like really reading a real book-- and say they will get their "information" from the internet.
#2 Privacy
It is something I do not understand about the internet culture; the eagerness to give-up rights, but it is the erosion of information and social norms that contributes to this; i.e., the eagerness to give-up rights in the belief you will gain something (secure marriage, prosperity, safety, etc.).
People are surprisingly eager to tell ME everything about THEMSELVES, then feel slightly when I do not tell them a damn thing.
It is a culture that ought to be resisted.
there are just times when you miss the bond your family had before. The TV with family/friends made a lot of sense. Nowadays, people in our household seem to have their own worlds already. One on the desktop pc, one on the laptop. It's sad.
I have always hated watching TV with someone. If I'm hanging out with someone my attention should be on the other not on the idiotbox.
