khameleonkhameleon Member UncommonPosts: 486

For peopel pointing out defects in Aion, the patches that will already be applied at USA/NA release fix most of the problems and have added about 16 dungeons and even more excellent content, even more character creation options, more of everything and fixed a lot of problems.

Patch 1.5 is 1.3 & 1.4 combined(Huge patch!!)

NA beta is only on version 1.0, so none of this has been applied yet.

Here are the patch notes, read and enjoy:

Patch 1.5 - http://www.aionsource.com/forum/general-discussion/20946-patch-notes-v1-5-update-shadow-balaur.html

You know I was already going to play Aion.  I already pre-ordered.  My main reason for buying the game and deciding to play was kilkil2's post about the mid to end game PvP and RvR.  Now I just sat down due to boredom and read through every single one of these patch notes and man i'm impressed.  I am now excited about a lot of other aspects of this game than I was previously.  I guess when you release a solid core game you can add onto it like NCSoft is doing with Aion and like Blizzard did with WoW instead of constantly trying to play catch up to fix bugs while breaking other things.

I think Blizzard and NCSoft are the only two devs to get it right in the last years with releasing a solid core product and building upon it rather than trying to do too much and releasing a broken game.  Doing this is likely to cause slow rises in populations rather than bleeding out of them.

But yeah looks good... I agree it will have one of the smoothest launches of an MMO.

If your looking for a wow clone with more focus on pvp Aion is it. Calling it a wow clone is not a put down for wow is a great game. The problem is after 4 years of wow it's time for something new and Aion is not it. Hey if pvp is your thing and you feel it will not be another warhammer failure more power to you.

Wake up, games in the same genre are 90% alike, its the 10% difference that makes a person choose one over another.

Aion is new, has every feature that most MMo gamers are looking for, and is bug free and fun. If you are tired of MMORPGs, no game will make you happy, go play a new type of game.

Okay, I beta tested the korean version, and let me just say that while it does have similar gameplay to WoW, the animations are much better, the music is better, graphics are better, plots are better, and it has what is called "Immersion", something most games are lacking. It is a very good game and I will probably purchase it.

Quit letting this moron hijack this thread with his ignorance.  Just ignore the trolls people come on.  This is a nice consolidation of what we can look forward to.

IF this is a wow clone then isnt wow just a clone of EQ, and every other game that came 6 + years before it did ?

Every game copies other games great ideas and things that work great and they morph that idea into there own game to try and make them better.   There is NOTHING wrong with this if it is done right and done better.

The patch notes are awesome and Aion looks like it is going to have one of the smoothest launches of any MMORPG in the last 6 + years.   Remember 1st impressions mean everything.

I never said it was a bad game though many take wow clone as a put down. After 4 years of wow I'm looking for something new and Aion is not it. I'm looking for a game more like SWG or UO and sad to say I may be waiting a long time. :(

Wonderful Wonderful games that would look just like WoW, since it stole from EQ, who stole from other peeps, who stole from Dungeon and Dragons pen and paper, who took a bunch of ideas from Tolkien. WoW itself is just a copy. Like lots of stuff. Any FPS out there is just a copy of who knows what in the long line of identicle FPS....same with any Fighting Game......or any Hollywood Movie, all with their identicle plot twists and half-brained dialogue. The Western world I have seen is a rip off of Europe, and the majority of Europe ripped off things from the Fallen Roman Empire, who stole from Greece, who stole from Egypt, who may have stole from Mesopotamia.....I think......So in short: Everything is a copy and has already been done unless it is new science.

I did play Aion. Its RYL with better Graphics, more Quests but lacking some of the original concepts.

Unfortunately I got bored after playing some chars to Level 15 and quit.

There is no right or wrong -
There is only fun and boring.

I will have to disagree with this. Wow is not like classic EQ for the most part. Even though the game was called Everquest it was not a quest based game. The challenge to level was not only hard do to a tough environment it was time consuming. The death penalty was extreme. The dungeons were public. This in it self makes the two games a different beast. How often do you see the term EQ clone thrown out there? Most games today are clones of wow and games like classic EQ pretty much don't exist anymore.

Was the Ferrari F-40 a clone of the Model T?  - The answer is NO!  People took what was there and improved upon it.  That's how innovations become further polished, through iterations of those ideas.

when I started WoW it felt VERY familiar after playing EQ for 5+ yrs.  I still use /t (/tell) instead of /w (/whisper) in WoW, because the programmers obviously played EQ too!  Did that make it an EQ clone?  Hell no!

Never said wow was original. Let me ask you this.....Would you say Warhammer, AOC, LOTRO, is more like Wow or classic EQ? I bet you will find more that say Wow by a long shot. That is where wow clone comes from. I wish more games were like classic EQ so we could have a challenge in a game again while leveling instead of this sleep walk race to the end game so we can raid over and over again for gear.

Most gamers these days seem to want their online games to be like fast food buffet. They want it in the shortest time possible, with all the food to choose from, with the smallest effort possible. Then when they get fat they complain about how bad the food is.

I really like this analogy.  What I like is that in response to a huge rise in obesity (WoW in MMO terms) a huge rise in health food and alternatives comes into play.  So if WoW sucks all these people in and they don't want anymore of the same and it stops selling then new alternatives will rise up and make the genre more interesing.

Still Aion is not a WoW clone.  It clones parts of WoW for parts of it's game (specifically the first part) because it sees how well WoW drew in subs, and then it combines elements of Lineage 2 and DAoC for the rest of the game.  DAoC and Lineage 2 were two great games and were vastly different from WoW.

So if we keep going with your analogy you could say that a health food place drawing in the masses by offering an all you can eat buffet, but then once they get a seat and go to the buffet all of the food is healthy, low in fat and calories, etc. then I would call the people who came up with that idea pretty smart.  You can't just change the world overnight.  Everything happens slowly over time.  You have to ease people into things.  If Aion draws people in with an easy and familiar experience and then guides the players into more PvP/RvR with an end game that is vastly different from WoW then kudos to them.  I like the mid to end game they have created.  I don't like the first levels which is why I will only make 1 char for the life of the game to avoid it.

I hate buffets, but if I have to go to one to end up getting the type of healthy food I love and they are successful enough to open a chain of restaraunts around the world so I can eat it in my city, or my parents small town then that works for me.

I knew we were getting the patches but I never bothered to read them.

Damn man, that's a lot of updates. I mean 12 instances alone released in patch 1.5? O_O

  • MykellMykell Member UncommonPosts: 780

I still remember AoC and WAR dropping planned content before release (WAR's dropping 6 capital cities to 2 comes to mind) and then all the scrambling to get it in months and months afterwards.

Not only is Aion a finished game its releasing loads of new content each patch. Hopefully this is the standard every new MMO will have to follow if Aion is successful.

Blyeh. This is so ridiculous. I really have no effiing idea what a mmo should do not to be called a wow clone... What? Bunnies playing one button tetris in stereo 3d and telephatic chat? What?

Please tell me that this is a wow clone:

no really, if that's a wow clone to you then I'm officially at loss for words and welcome to my illustrious ignore list.

U talk foolishness child. Everbody knows that EVE online is just a Space Invaders clone with some fancy 3d. It's got spaceships and lasers just like Space Invaders so it's obviously a Space Invaders clone. Our pal Zep obviously has a good point here but we're just to thick to appreciate it.
