Age of Conan would be a lot more successful if they did an item shop, still charged people to buy Age of conan but not charging monthly. They should make a guild wars type thing out of it. Guareenteed it would be loads more successful than it is today.

Ok, maybe I am behind the times but I just don't get why anyone would play a game where you can buy your weapons and equipment.
To me a game is where you play to earn your gear.
I am sorry I just don't get it.
I will never play a game where there is an "Item shop" in any way shape or form.
There are a lot of players who dont like the philosophy of 'The more money you have, the better player you are'
Torrential: DAOC (Pendragon)
Awned: World of Warcraft (Lothar)
Torren: Warhammer Online (Praag)
man people have to stop using that argument, this is the truth:
Cash shops do NOT Sell ARMOR and WEAPONS! Ive played TONS of f2p games and none of them sold armor or weapons.
Alot of people need to understand cash shops / item shops usually don't sell "enhanced weapons / armor"
they usually only sell appearances / cosmetics along with potions for xp and such.
but what difference does it make.

well i for one think its a better approach cause it dosent really give you a HUGE lead just a nudge forward. nothing that would make that player untouchable.
I don't see why a game would be any more successful with this method of revenue. If people don't find a game worth paying a monthly fee for, why would they somehow find it worth paying optional fees for?
Not to mention the inevitable spiral of cash shop item inflation.
aoc wouldnt work with an itemshop
and going f2p would kill the game.
you need a long grind in a f2p, otherwise you wont buy the xp scrolls
i guess you could make gem-insertion a high failure ordeal, and have protect scrolls, but still...
you have to make the item shop contain items that people will actually buy, items the need to be competative or make the game easyer.
the games easy enough, and if you add buff scrolls or pots it will cause a lot of people who like the pvp to leave.
but you say they would definitly be more successful with an itemshop expansion so it must be true...
Oooo... would this mean that I wouldn't need to do anymore raids or those repeative-boring-linear quests anymore to get my equipment and xp?
... uh... wait a minute... but that is game what I am currently playing! So I would buy these items and xp so that I wouldn't need to play game anymore... but then what I would do in game then? Showing off my uber gear and growing my epeen?
I think that I will stick with Second Life then, they have more sexy gear and biggest epeens.

I think the suggestion is absurd. Not only is item shop undesireable by most, making the game F2P opens doors wide open to kids that don't need credit cards to play in a Mature rated game.
If they bring in item shops and make the game f2p, they will lose me as a customer.
Sheesh, what the heck is going on with these game companies? Are they all composed of buffoons?
I hate any system that allows for items to be purchased with real money. I pay 15 bucks a month for the opportunity to achieve or earn anything that's available in the game. If AoC were to go free and introduce an item mall, I would quit immediately.
/agreed
F2p and item shops would kill the game for me. I'd rather pay the monthly fee than have the game swamped with teeny-bopper caps-lock generals.
