I must build! LFMMO Housing/Empire Building

Shadowbane (dead, sucked)

Darkfail (alive *unfortunately* a joke)

Eve (Good, but I don't have a decade to invest in it, and Eve space doesn't feel like an actual place, just a grid)

Wurm (java based, just horrible, interesting ideas though)

etc etc. 

Played Ryzom for a bit and it would have been fine, except there is no way to interact with the world at all, and after attempting to check it out again, I find I can no longer stand the interface.

Sandboxy games where you can build towns/stations and lay claim to a piece of the world. Unfortunately, there are only five or so that I know of and they all have problems. There's Mortal, but it's not out yet, currently is asking for far too much, and as it's not out yet, is a complete unknown as to if it will be any good. But more importantly, its not out yet. 

If anyone has any ideas, shoot, but I'm fairly certain I'm right and a good game similar to the ones above doesn't yet exist /=.

Bans a perma, but so are sigs in necro posts.

    Horizons / Istaria nearly made it as well

    Waiting for something new & sandboxy, time will tell

       Let me know if you find it.  I've tried many of the games mentioned.

       Some people have reccomened A Tale in the Desert.

       For now I play Eve.

     I like to play Galaxy Online. You pretty much join a faction in the begining and work to capture systems which have planets that you colonize for resources to build ships and such. The graphics are nothing special but its fun, decently populated, and has politics and treaties and wars going on all the time.

    If you are into city building, you might want to play CitiesXL when it comes out.

    But.. yeah. As you described it, there aren't many options. And in EVE if you want to claim a piece of land you either skilltrain 10 years and then go colonize a piece of wormhole space for yourself, or you join an alliance and enter in an already-formed alliance war. Maybe joining a small-mid corp that aims at settling in wormhole space might be fun too. There's also the NPC faction war system with shifting territories but I really haven't tried it.

    Thinking of Playing: Fallen Earth or Darkfall after this months update.

    Have Played: EQ1, EQ2, WoW, WAR, Vanguard, EvE, Requiem, PW, Lotro, Lineage2, AoC, SWG...

    I have played SWG for like 2 years. I am also a Star Wars junkie. It has a lot of crafting things. You can build anything from houses ships and clothes and even make different types of food. I really love that game and was looking to see if there was any other games that are that in depth on the crafting. If  anyone knows or can give me some ideas please send a message or post here and I will check back.
