Thanks WOTLK you set me free from my WOW addiction

MackehMackeh Member Posts: 164

Just want to say I am now 7 months clean from playing WOW and I am not missing it at all.

I played WOW for 4 years, every day, not all day but at least 5 hours a day, it was really hard not to play it.  It affacted my job, health, social life and my wife and family.  The last year of playing I was starting to get control back of my life, I even went a few days now and then without playing the game, I was starting to get my life back.

Then WOTLK came out and totally ruined the game for me, a bigger world means less people riding around in the lower level areas like Azeroth and Outland, this totally killed off what was left of World PvP.  I bought the expansion but after 3 or 4 days I cancelled my sub and have never looked back.  It was WOTLK that gave me that final push away and I would like to thank Blizzard personally for it's release, it gave me the little push I needed.

Please do not release Vanilla wow servers though, I would really find that temptation hard to beat.

While I don't agree on you that the expansion is supreior, I agree that the OPs threadreally doesn't have a valid point.

If he posted in in a thread discussing which expansion who was best or something it would have been ok, or at least a week after the expansion came out but now it is just another flame thread started without a good point.

Also the OP have very few reasons why the expansion is bad, just making the game bigger seems like a bad reason to quit.

My friends who got upset and quited got upset that the game become too easy, not because the expansion in itself was bad. And people complaineng that the game world is too big is rare, particulary in a game with the population of Wow.

I wouldnt ask the mods to close the thread down, but to keep an eye on it.

What I'm interested to know is which MMO he chose after WoW, if any. From what I understood, the problem was not the particular MMO, but the inability to regulate his game time, something that could happen with any number of activities, including MMOs.

no matter where i go on my server with the exception of a few zones its hard not to find people especially those to gank since it seems your into that. I don't really understand your gripes. Northrend is a really beautiful continent and offers alot. Though I'll level with you i really do miss Outlands.

Sorry if you think this is trolling.  The reason I posted this now is because 7 months without WOW is quite a lot of time.  If I posted this after 3 weeks people would say stuff like, well 3 weeks is nothing, you will be back etc.

I played WOTLK a week or so, only got to 71 with one of my chars.  The real problem was I did not like the new zones and the thought of kitting out all my 8 lvl 70's did not appeal to me.  I was on a locked server with a huge population yet Azeroth was deserted, everyone was in the new zone, even Outland was pretty empty.

Sure I am not deft enough to realise that a new expansion would mean most people would be in the new zone but I just figured that this would be where most people would spend all their time over the coming year etc, as they did with Outland.  I used this as a reason to quit and it worked.

I never admitted my addiction to anyone, I lived in denial as do most of you.  It's a great feeling tho to know I am free and am not actually playing any MMO at the moment.  Just Left4dead now and then and spending time working and with my family.

If WOTLK had not been released I would still be playing WOW I think, so thats why I am grateful to Blizzard.

While i've played WoW and liked it for a while, i was never addicted to it.  No it's not fuc*ing denial.  Some of us gamers have something called willpower.  Your post just signifies to me how weak willed you are.  If you let a freakin game ruin your life etc. maybe the life you had/have isnt that great to begin with.  How about you start a WoW support group and tell people who actually give a damn.

I'm not busting on you (much) but cmon dude.  The "games are addictions" crap talk is getting old.  We hear it from congress, we dont need to see it on a cool fan site of the genre.  Blah..

I recently left WoW as well. Its become way to gear centered for myself....I had no interest in raids/dungeons so there was little for me to do other then bgs and WG at 80. Or mindless grinding for Ks of money to buy an epic money. For me it got old quick.

Since leaving I've never been happier :-)

lol i totally know how the op feels . i m not missing it at all for the first time i really see no reason to go back . but its not just the lich king its the fact blizzard decided to make warcraft easier to appeal to very young children . fine , they ve succeded in their goal . its made the game dull and without any real challenge and its also made for a community like a school yeard . i might return if they ever impliment 18+ servers . untill that day i ll be playing aion . it offers everything warcraft did at one point and inspite of what you may have heard its not a grind fest . i just hope all the 12 year olds stay at wow  they are welcome to it .in its present state warcraft is boring as hell .

I just recently got my rogue to 80...WoW's that one game I keep coming back to, it's certainly addictive. But I got to say....Nothrend feels like a pleasant theme park ride then a freezing, hostile land with the Lich King dominating it...this Lich King guy did absolutely nothing to make me think he was a "good" bad guy...really it's like "meh"..for some reason not really enjoying the hamster-wheel end-game with this super focus on gear...but ah well....but Blizzard are focused on appealing to a certain market and they're doing a good job of that at least....I thought Wrath was pretty decent and better then Burning Crusade (shudder) but each expansion just seems to really take something away from the game.

And....I hope OP you find ways of dealing with the root of your MMO addiction, not just lucking out on Wrsth being not to your taste...what happens if another MMO comes out that's gonna hook you, you know. Or as you said, Blizzard releasing vanilla servers....everyone says that won't happen, but they also said faction swapping wouldn't happen or gender changing and lots of other things....But anyway best wishes I know hard it is dealing with an addiction like this. I made myself go to college and currently doing a course I really like, which has thankfully kept my playing time much lower and I get bored of it more easily now.

Well, they did do a better job with Wrath. But I was never scared of Arthas and I never will be. He's just some mentally unstable Prince who decided to follow the path of revenge.

They should've glorified Kil'Jaeden. How is a demonic Eredar Lord whose sole purpose is the destruction and reincarnation of the entire freakin Universe (by serving Sargeras) not more evil than some wimpy Prince with his toy sword (which admittedly does look cool)? If they ever have Sargeras as a Raid Boss (better damn well be a 40-man, I don't want the Dark Titan being a 10 man), they should really go all out and make it truly epic.

    Not like Arthas.

    Have fun in college.

If you have an addictive personallity do not play mmos!

Someone should have told you that.

MMOs = Crack if you have no self control.

I'm happy that your getting your shit together.
