I doubt it'll be RMT Material.

Lets not forget Bill Rober tends to hype up things. Cryptic Bucks sounds like a universial payment system with the added bonus of being able to buy their DLC across their games (Like the CoX Cyborg, or Magic packs) which I find interesting.

In short I think we need a bit more information before we start finding the tar anf feathers.

RMT going to impact my game time, not a cat in hells chance.

I've played so many games that have added RMT and not a single one of then has ever managed to ruin my own personal gaming time, I don't use the shops hence it's not going to affect me.

Do I care if someone has bought his way to max lvl or got himself some fancy gear, nope don't give a hoot, they obviously have the money to do so and thats their choice.

Too many ppl worry about RMT spoiling a game, it only spoils it if your trying to keep up with the players using RMT, why worry what your neighbour is doing, worry about what YOUR doing and don't lose any sleep over other players.

There could be a button next to my character creation screen that says "Press here to get all the epic gear in the game plus max lvl/ bonus exp/bonus hp/bonus mana for the special price of £200" I'l quickly bypass that button because once you've pressed it whats the bloody point in playing the game, you've got everything and now the game would just become a piece of eye candy to walk around im showing off what you've just bought.

No thanks, I'd rather get my stuff the old fashioned way by playing the game, let those who can afford to use the RMT.

It is the buy "anything IN game" that is the problem for me.  anything implies stuff thaat makes the characters more powerful based on how much you can spend on Cryptic bucks.

They can be talking about character transfer and more character slots, maybe they dont plan on adding an item shop, think about it, you really dont know what are they going to set on sale for this bucks. Dont let the sky fall over your head until it really happen.

then they should not have said "anything in game".  Their secrecy is working against them.  There is a time to be open about it, and that time is passing quickly.

Doesn't this game have PvP?  I don't think they'd put stat-enhancing gear into the item shop of a game that features competitive play.  That would be a fatal error.

I believe they mentioned it, but i don't think they covered in detail what it would be like - which is their Modus Operandi - treat the customers like mushrooms, keep them in the dark and feed them on shyte.

You design your own arch nemesis for PvE where your friends can join you to fight them throughout the story or vice versa.  I don't believe there will be any PvP outside of a meaningless arena.

I share the OP's disappointment about the MT situation.

But I also have reservations about xp and loot distribution.

The limited statements they've made on these indicate that they aren't split equally amongst team members and the underlying mechanics seem prone to balance problems.

I saw a video interview with Bill and it stated that any cosmetic upgrades you can buy in the store can be earned in the game, as well as other little tidbits like extra character slots, name change, etc.  Said items will probably not be game breaking to give it an unfair advantage over someone who doesn't buy cryptic bucks.  That being said, not everybody can buy cryptic bucks due to one issue or another so all those items being in game will give those players a chance to acquire some neat looking stuff.  But like I said before, don't expect any items to be giving boosts over another player in PvP or make your superhero super powerful on a raid scale.  The devs know that is what can break a game.

QFT. The things you can buy are either purely cosmetic, or earnable ingame. Stop whining, you don't have to use the MT, and it just gives more money for developing content.

Not true. Even Bill Roper has a problem:

    TTH
    [...]
The idea is wanting to be able to have things there that players can get if they want to, but they don’t negatively impact the balance of the game. It’s not like we’re expecting players to go and purchase things through micro-transactions that then give them some huge leg up.
    .
    .
Right. So for us, the things we’re looking at with micro-transactions are more along the lines of being fun for players to have that aren’t going to be doing anything to disrupt or upset the balance of the game, or give someone who decides to use micro-transactions any kind of leg up on anybody else.

So does he mean the will still give players a minor leg up or none at all. :p

    play.com pre order bonus item
    [...]

Inborn Tenacity - Damage resistance to Physical Damage types and small chance of a 10's effect that will improve your damage resistance.
    .
    .

Yeah I know, we can get this kind of item too ingame in some way later if what Bill says is true but if the add that stuff with RMT...........

Thinking of making a guild just for rich people and we can buy all booster packs and extra stuff and none will stand a chance. Hows that for balance? Over and out :P

Nah I will hire some chinese farmers that do that stuff and can multibox for my amusement, that's cheaper. ;)

Actually you can only buy some costume pieces and stuff like that, and you don't have to buy them either, you can get them ingame too, but if you buy them, you can get them on all you're characters without having to buy them again.

read abit more the next time, and you would've known this.

You clearly haven't been following this.

They won't just be costume pieces and they most definitely won't all be earnable in-game - that's the only thing he does clarify about MTs in his latest interview.

Show me this interview and I'll believe ya.

This Thread has the interview linked.

    Quoted from it.

"I think that the biggest thing though, with the items that people are going to get though micro-transactions there will be some things where maybe that will be the only way you can get them yet none of them are things where you might say, “man, I can’t believe I didn’t get that” whereas there’s tons and tons and tons and tons more things that you can only get by playing the game."

So originally it was earn any of it in game, now it's maybe only available in through MTs.  Would be nice if they would just level with us.

It is hard to put a lot of stock into anything Bill Roper says. After the Hellgate:London debacle, it is surprising a company would put him as the front-man for any type of controversial functionality (such as RMT). Then again, since he has proven effective at lying through his teeth in the past, that may actually be a good reason.

They are obviously trying to guage the potential user base's reaction to this type of in-game addition. My feeling is that unless a game is free (and thereby supported completely by RMT), you have the potential for disaster by using RMT. Even if the company releases it with pure cosmetics and other "lite" benefits, there's nothing to stop them from changing this down the road and upsetting balance in the interest of $$$.

I've been quietly watching CO for a long time. Been playing COH since beta and still play today.

Have to say I was a little dissappointed when I read the MT announcements, not to say I'm totally against them but I'm not jumping up and down with joy at the idea either. I've played quite a few "free" mmo's with RMT but never bought anything.

TBH I only have a credit card to pay for my online game subs, I am REALLY reluctant to use it for anything else.

However I'll keep an open mind and see what player feedback is like after release, if I was being honest though this announcement has dent my enthusiasm for this game a bit....
