75$ is not bad.

Its about $40 per publishing region.  North America and EU publishing rights in one box.  Very clever tactics.

The definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over expecting different results.

You guys manage to justify anything.  For a unknown developer $75 is ridiculous.  Might as well write "fail" on the game, very few are going to try it at that price.

  • -Zeno--Zeno- Member CommonPosts: 1,298

If its a good game, people will buy it.  I bought both EU and NA Darkfall because its not only a great game, but most of of my old school enemies were playing it.  Guilds I have known for 15 years, most posting that its a great game (www.shadowsyndicate.net as an example).  Mortal Online has yet to prove itself.

No open beta, just an expensive pre-order to get into beta.   Hell, I bet ONLY players who preorder will get into beta.  10k accounts is not enough to stress test anything, especally an untested (in the mmorpg field) game engine.  If there were 10k online at one time, yes, but that would require 25k or more accounts to accomplish.  People have lives.

The definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over expecting different results.

It's not necessarily bad, but it is more than the normal pricing, which just seems fishy.

If $75 was such a good deal, it wouldn't take more than one thread trying to convince people it's a good deal.

I was playing AoC.. you know that 14 free and they started to talk about mortal online and most had no clue what it was. Not saying its a bad MMO.. its just very unknown. And $75.. lmao go for it..

Sure.... You release and unknown game with a price tag 50% higher than class A games... It might be good. It might be bad. Quality is not linked to price. Most people except a select few easilly fooled shopaholics will just stay away from it and that is it. First of all, ANYONE that raise the price 50% of a merchandice just because "Idiots buy anyhting" will notice how many sane people there are out there... Second. There is no reaosn in hell to support a company that thinks that they singlehandedly is setting the new pricing standard of games and prove them right. You want to support tha things get 50% more expensive.. that is your issue... Most people thinks that a really bad and stupid idea.

The quality of the game is secondary here... This is stupidity at its finest, and trying to cash in on really young and easilly impressed people that are willing to pay, or let their parents pay, ANYTHING for aa standard product, just because its "The new Shiny Toy" on the market. You want to support that.. good for you. Fortunatly... you are a minority, and the end result is both obvious and quick to follow. Hope you feel good with your little 75$ when it all goes FreetoPlay due to lack of costumers.

I don't know how many times I have to say this but, THE GAME WILL BE AVAILABLE AT A LATER DATE WITH LESSER OR EQUAL NORMAL MMO COST FOR DIGITAL DOWNLOAD!

so, assuming all the complainers are fans of the game and just want to get into beta, caugh up the dough now and be guaranteed a spot in the beta, or wait for the digital download, with no guarantees on beta access."

    My own addition:

Category 3. Don't know jack shit on how this price tag came to be.

Producing these boxes and their contents is not a cheap thing if you consider the relatively low amount. It really isn't. Even if you have everything produced in China. It wouldn't surprise me if producing and shipping the whole package first to SV and than to you would be in excess of 20$ dollars. The costs and logistics for each MO box are very different from any other boxed game distributed by big publishers by the millions. Apart from that; in general companies don't offer collector's editions to cash in on, they do it to please the biggest fans of their product.

it boils down to how bad you want the boxed version and if u can afford $75

I will be more than happy to get teh digital copy

No one is saying its a good deal, just people are not seeing the whole picture, its like whinning because some company decided to make the collector's edition 200USD, is it a scam? NO and I wouldnt really give a rats ass about it, if you can afford it, if you want it you buy it, as long as the normal version is of a regular price.

This is the same with MO, obviously they made the boxed versions themselves without a publisher, try and create your own software and contact a company that handles boxing a product and tell me how much it costs you to do it, specially in such a low quantity of 10k, a publisher like EA and others have deals with companies and ship hundreds of thousands of games every year, this allows them to get their games boxed up and ready at a much cheaper price and ofc sell cheaper, not to mention the added VAT in sweden of 25%.

Now that we got that cleared up lets get back to my main point, buying a boxed version is NOT the ONLY way to buy this game, it is however the only way to secure a beta spot, now beta IS NOT the game, its testing, if you are so keen on testing and have the money to spend then you can do so, if you think its too much then you just wait for the Digital Download which will be much cheaper and more inline with the current MMO prices on the market.

Conclusion, no one is forcing you to buy the boxed version to get into beta in the same way no one is forcing you to spend more on a collectors edition on any other MMO, if you think its too much jusy wait for the cheaper version to be available for purchase, no one is trying to convince you its a good deal, its up to you to decide if you want to buy cheaper or buy more expensive with a box and some perks (including beta TESTING), what DarkPony posted couldnt be more accurate.

I gotta agree to this.  Developers never get their games correct anymore as people will just throw money away "hoping" that the game will be good... and just think, people pre-ordered and its still in pre-alpha testing...

Care to point out where you got the information that it is "PRE-ALPHA TESTING" ? Im just gonna go ahead and say you dont know what pre-alpha testing means and you have not read a single word about MO or its development.

If Aventurine did this then everyone on mmorpg.com would be out with pitchforks, screaming scam from high heaven.  Alot of these people who are here now, defending Mortal Online....

    It's really pathetic.

If you really cant see the difference between Aventurine and Star Vault and the way they developed their games, then there is really nothing anyone can tell you that will make a difference, Its like going to buy Smirnoff Vodka and you get the Black Export version which is more expensive or just the normal one, now if they dont have the cheaper version I can either just buy the black export version for a more expensive price or just comeback the next day and buy the cheaper one its that simple, if you think the black version is just too expensive.

Aand trust me they are exactly the same to me.

I agree with you for the most part. My point was the fact of making multiple threads on the same thing.

The one thing I don't agree is the getting into beta part. It's not guaranteed. It's "first come, first serve". Here's where it get's tricky. Whether or not they sell out of the box versions first, they will be opening the regular digital purchases on schedule. They've already stated as much.

Now, let's say they sell 5,000 of the 10,000 copies. Now the digital orders start coming in and they sell 20,000 copies ( just an example number ). Then another 2,000 people buy box versions. Those 2,000 people just lost out, because the beta quota was filled with the digital orders ( first come, first serve ).

OK I got LE so it was 98.00 US (INCLUDING SHIPPING) I live on the west coast so shipping is a pretty good deal on it from Sweden at aobut $14.00 US. So the actual cost for the LE purchase is $84.00 US. That I have to say is a pretty damn good deal on an LE.

The boxed verisons $75.00 US (INCLUDING SHIPPING)  $61.00 US taking out the flat rate shipping charge. Still steep but not that bad. I imagine the DD will be between 40.00 to 50.00 Which is reasonable compared to what AV charged if thats what they sell at.

Once everyone is over sticker shock monthly is about the norm for a new MMO. Time will tell how the game does so not counting beta time for Pre-order the game will cost like 3.30 per day for the first month or the cost of a venti mocha on LE or $2.50 per day for the boxed set for the first month of play.

Regardless MMO's are a hobby if you are choosing between eating or paying rent then I don't think any game should be your priority one way or the other right now. I just am going without my Mochas for a copule of weeks to pay for it :-)

Well then let me correct you both by telling you that Star Vault is only selling 10000 copies of the game, no more! The official quote is:

"Mortal Online will be sold in 10.000 copies to start with. This is because we want to be able to better control the Beta-phase by administering only one (or two) servers."

And everyone that buys the game will get into the beta, that is the LE, the box AND the DD. There will be 5 different times they will let people into the beta:

July 20 Block A (including 999 Limited Editions)

    August 3 Block B

    August 17 Block C

    August 31 Block D

    September 14 Block E

There is a "first come, first server" principal to this, the ones that buy the game first will be in block A until there is 2000 people ordering the game, after that they put people in block B and so on... but everyone gets into the beta!
