Should I spend the money and bandwidth to check out Darkfall?

gregquinngregquinn Member Posts: 10

Ok, I've heard a lot of bad things about this game, but surely in the past couple of months the devs have been making it better and listening to all the complaints?

My question is should I download the game and subscribe, is it worth playing now or is it just as bad as it was 4 months ago?

Thanks

If money and bandwidth are a concern, then no, there are better games out there.

The game was never "bad". It has alot of flaws, and things that need to be fixed/added but I wouldn't say the game is bad.

if you are used to WOW/LOTRO it looks bad. IT plays totaly different and does not have near the level of polish those games have.

If you like FFA pvp with full loot, large siege warfare, and guild play you might enjoy the game.

Depends if you like PVP and risk, and perhaps (ATM) want to grind tediously. Only problem with DFO atm is the grind and/or lack of skill cap.

But if you like PVP full loot then check it out, but I would wait for another patch, because the balance in PVP right now is kind of screwy.

I am subbed and loving it though , but I macro'ed my char, because like most people have to pay the bills some how.

I'm sick of these games where you need to grind to skill/level up.

Can't wait for Mortal Online, finally an MMO that is doing things differently.

How is Lord of the Rings, is that worth checking out?

Bandwidth is just so expensive where I come from so downloading an 8 gig client is the same as buying a brand new game in store.

I am waiting for MO as well to try it out, will cancel sub if its nice in beta.

    (preordered it)

Lord of the rings? go ask on their forums, these games are mostly towards PVP, never played LOTR but I would imagine is more PVE then PVP.

If you like FFA pvp with full loot, large siege warfare, and guild play you might enjoy the game.

I thought it would be absolute shit, but for these reasons I'm enjoying it.

Just wait a month or 2. To answer the OP, no it s not worth it especially if you have expensive d/l costs. To each their own but my opinion is no.

Fair point mate, it may well turn out shit in the long run, but I haven't stuck around in an MMO properly for more than about a month or 2 at a time since SWG pre nge. Tend to just wake up one morning usually, snap out of my MMO trance and cancel everything in one whack for no reason at all, and then the sleeping patterns readjust :)

Lol, to be fair, you might like it longer, obviously some do. That said most people I know including myself got bored real fast. I just got bored with doing the same thing over and over everyday with no real direction. Not saying I like things handed to me at all, I really like the danger etc, but for some reason when I played SB I felt more inclined to log in after that 1 st month then I did with DFO, even with SBs issues. I can t put a finger on it except I got bored real fast.

Aye, at the moment though I'm not really grinding it hard so it's getting some good fun play value; just enjoying the time in there and taking it nice and easy. I occasionally do a bit of the old autoswim and power walk into walls though when, can't deny that, reminds me of macro grinding in SWG haha ;) But that's about it. Mainly just getting a skill as I need it, if I need a new weapon or set of armor or mount, I'll train it as the situation arises. Plus it's fun helping out other new people, and giving them a few crafted bits and bobs.

But yes, there's a chance this could well grow tiresome in the long run if no new content is added, although just being able to log in, jump on a mount and ride out and explore the map and see what sort of trouble I can cause has been fun. Reminds me of real life a bit (apart from the being good at resting bit) log in, gather some fish and cook it for the days adventure, make a few arrows if needed, slap on the armor and ride out. I think having not gone through the hardships that you most likely have, or all of the other fans has given me a different mindset too, I heard there were a lot of things promised that didn't deliver, so that must have been a kick in the sack for some.

However I do have an MO preordered so we shall see, we shall see ;)

Don't play it myself but know people who plays it. They say it is getting better but slowly. If I would be you I would wait a while longer, maybe read some comparision between it and MO when that comes out, and then go play the game that seems to fit you best. It takes time to fix a MMOs issues, many games have them for a year, it took Vanguard 2 years.

The real problem here is that they have no free trial as most games have. There could be some reasons for that, like they don't have time to make one or that they have something to hide. I find it surprising anyways since they have few players it should be in their interest to let people try it out.

The reviews I seen have not been helpful either, abyssmal or incredible high score are really not to trust and all I seen are bad to tell us why they gave the score and both list the good and bad things about the game.

Because lets face it, all games have good and bad things. If someone talks about the game but can't mention both he have an agenda of some kind and is not to be trusted. Even the games I love most have some bad issues together with the good.

It is your money of course, but you could flip a coin, it is fairer than most "reviews" you can find here, either made by people who loves the game in a way I can't understand (it is a game, not a woman) or hate it in a way fits a witch hunter. No one here had said the game is ok, or slightly bad.

Very good point well made. Everyone has their own opinions and will try to tell you it's either shit or great, I'm no exception, I'm personally enjoying it, but would I recommend it to you? I'm not sure, I don't know you or what sort of things you're into or expect. I took a gamble when I bought it, I liked it. You however, could take that gamble, and never forgive yourself for spending 50 nicker on it. Then again I have a student loan, and I'm wreckless with money, so even if I did think it was shit, I could easily say meh and go and buy porn :)

Awwww, and here i thought that Darkfall would be different , a "sandbox" game ,unique, one-of-a-kind not like all those other level based games that you have to grind or afk macro constantly in order to get to high levels and enjoy the full game experience that the game has to offer.

    Well ooops, my bad.........

Haha, if you think kidnapping is the worst that will happen then I guess you didn't know that Tasos is a renown baby eater also.

To be absolutley fair.. it was at first... I never felt any real need to grind at all, until guilds full of people with endless exploited money and maxed skill sets started to take over the server and grief anyone they came in contact with. It was then that I saw that the only way to compete even a little bit was to grind... thats when I bowed out.

I mean I fought a guy in one of these guilds 1v1 once, I hit him probably 20 times and barely scratched him... he hit me 3 times and I was dead...

its apparently better on the NA server, but there is no way I am buying the game again.
