Can you guys recommend a good RPG that is fun for just a few people to play? Here's kind of what I'm looking for.
I really like something like Diablo II, but the graphics on that game have become so outdated now. I'm also looking for something a little more complicated than Diablo II. I tried Neverwinter Nights I & II, and although they were great, they were just a little bit on the too complicated side. And there was just something about those games that never made us feel like we were really all that "grouped".
So basically, something like Diablo II but with a few more character creation options.

Just off the top of my head I'd throw out Titan Quest for you to go and have a wack at. It's pretty much diablo 2 with newer graphics set in a mythological setting that spans different mythologies like Egyptian, Greek, Roman... all that good stuff.
I was gonna suggest Neverwinter Nights but I see you've given that a shot so that's out the window.
No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-
Drakensang is pretty good
though it's single player only, no playing with friends online if thats what your going for.
Try "Dungeon Siege 2"
*edit* only suggesting this since you said you enjoyed Diablo so much. This game is very much like diablo. I'll also forwarn you that in order to play in widescreen you have to adjust the screen resolution outside of the game. Heres an explanation on that:
Change the default resolution on widescreen monitors
If you have a widescreen monitor, you can modify the default resolution. Create a desktop shortcut to your game's .exe file, and then modify the command line in the shortcut by adding the arguments "width=xxxxx height=xxxxx" to the end of the command line. To do this, right-click the shortcut on your desktop, and then click Properties. In the Target text box, add the following text to the end of the existing path after the quotation marks, width=xxxxx height=xxxxx--for example:
"C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesDungeon Siege 2DungeonSiege2.exe" width=1680 height=1050
"If you want a picture of the future, imagine a robot foot stomping on a human face -- forever."
Dungeon Siege 2!!!
I loved that game!!!
=============================
It all seems so stupid
It makes me want to give up
But why should I give up
When it all seems so stupid
I have to agree with Titan Quest and its expansion Immortal Throne.
Also, I am going to add Two Worlds to the mix, yes it has its problems, but the game is huge and has some great features. Can't wait for the second one.
