Darkfall or MO

InzraInzra Member Posts: 679

i'm looking fro the MMO that will allow the most credible freedom for the player, and from what I've understood Darkfall and MO seems to be the main options (If you know any better I'll be happy to check it out).

So Darkfall has been out - more or less - for some months now, and I'm thinking that they may have gotten rid of the worst bugs and flaws. But has had alot of negative reviews afaik, wether that is because of people not liking that playstyle or if the game actually is poorly made.

MO hasn't released yet, yet at least the visuals looks good, will it have as much freedom as DF claimed it would have?

Also they have set a vague release time of Q3 this year. As probably alot have experienced MMO's tend to be late, some very late (DF) and when they finally arrive it's full of bugs and disappointments, at least for some. Which means the "real" release and playable game might be further out into the future. Just saying from looking at other launches.

This is why prefer not to wait for MMO's. Then again if it's only a couple of months...

I was thining of at least wait for good reviews for MO before playing it. I don't think I'll ever preorder a game again, did it once and altough it wasn't all to bad for me, it's better to keep cool and wait for the reviews Imo.

What do you guys think? Do any of you play DF?

There isn't as much freedom in DFO as you would think.

MO is supposed to a have a little more robust skill system, by that I don't mean more, I mean more variation and kinds of skills to train.

DFO comes down to fighting.  Mostly just PvP.

The skill system is designed to support PvP and there is no real fluff to the game.

In Mo you'll have things like cartography, lip reading, lock picking, true taiming.

Mounts, pack animals, personal housing you can build any place, and a crafting system that allows for experimenting to come up with dif. kinds of items.

DFO isn't as open as it would seem as everything is based around territory control and clan warfare.  You'll level skills to increase your effectiveness in combat.   Crafting is straight forward, if you've ever played WoW then you know how to craft in DFO.  You're restricted were you can build by having to build on predesignated spots.  Taiming is harvesting a bush for an herb that you turn into a mount and put in your pocket, wereas MO's is more like UO in that the animals will wander the world and you have to actually tame them; they are persistant and aren't summoned and desummoned.

As far as freedom goes, I'm expecting MO to offer more of it then DFO does.

DFO is more just a skill based system, but in the end felt no less linear then most MMO's on the market, and didn't provide much tools or content to feel like a true sandbox.

I play DF, I have also Preordered MO also. Unlike a lot of people who either slate and love one or the other, I've got high hopes for both. DF so far has been a lot of fun, however, if you don't like joining groups, venting, and lots of PvP, DF really isn't for you. From square 1 it is all centred around PvP, and as freedom goes, it is pretty free, but it feels more like you're part of a tribe when you join a clan. Everyone pitches in to go and chop wood together or mine so they can build up their forts, there are often people patrolling while people do so, some people sparring together in their alliance cities etc. So for PvP, (I've only been playing DF for a few days) it rocks, having some real fun. As for MO, I have a feeling I'll be subscribing to both games, as they both seem to have good stuff to offer. But more than likely you'll come across people who flame either game depending which they support, but I support both of them.

No matter. IT IS NOT AN OPEN BETA. Not 5 minutes ago, I asked in the MO Official forums and the answer is this is NOT an open beta.

I'm happy for you, but mine took 3 hours. Not sure why. I can download the DFO client (10G) in about 45 minutes.

No it isn't open beta its for the people that have pre-ordered. Just because you have the client doesn't necessarily mean you can log in.

    Straight from a DFO thread.

"Hi guys, been waiting to play the game for 2/3 days now. Had it on download, but I'm struggling to get more that 10kb/s from the torrent. Any advice?"

Torrents will always be different, my advice get a rapidshare account, MO will probably be available for direct download tomorrow or so.

What the hell are you talking about? Where did I mention DFO is better than MO? Are sure you even know what you are reading? I was using my download of DFO to illustrate why my download of MMO was slow.

Thank God. Torrents have always been painfully slow for me. I tried re-configuring my client on several occasions but no luck. A direct download will make me VERY happy.

Just learn to setup your torrent program. if using Vista make sure to install IPv6 support. If you are using a router refer to their site for port forwarding configuration. Some routers just plain cannot handle torrents (IE cheap routers) not sure if i can post brand names but Asus WL-500G with WW-DRT is a good choise if setup properly. Downloaded torrent at 300k+ easily.

I am no fan of torrents, but it works if its seeded well.
