Looking for a new MMO - Open for suggestions

TehCaddeTehCadde Member Posts: 19

Hello,

Tried to shorten it a little and colored the most important stuff for those who don't like wall's of text.

I have a lot of time on my hands at the moment and I would like to kill some of it, by playing a MMO. The problem here though, is that I can't find a MMO I enjoy (whether RPG or FPS).

I would prefer a P2P MMO and it would be nice if there is a trial or at least some video's/information about it - So I got a chance to check it out before buying/paying. Even beta's from some of the upcoming games could be of interest, if you think I would like them. (I can wait for some time, doesn't have to be something I have to play right now (though I would love to) - open for suggestions)

My computer is pretty good, so any game will do, would prefer games with better graphic though.

At the moment I'm looking forward to Star Wars: The Old Republic (loved the two single player games) and Earthrise (crafting and Sci-Fi universe) - (also looked at some Sci-FI MMOFPS I think it was, called something with 8, signed up for the beta at least)

What I like when playing (not in order of what I like the most and I don't need everything in a game for it to be of interest):

 - PvP - I like open pvp mostly, here by I mean there are safe zones, but also places with large scale open pvp. Battlegrounds can be fun as well, but I usually don't spend a lot of time in such, unless I'm with a group of friends or the like.

 - Solo and group play (I love fooling around with my crafting or level an alt, but playing with others to kill a large fierce monster also has my interest!)

 - Graphics - I prefer good graphics, but I'm also a kind of guy who likes going back to Baldur's Gate 2 and play it all over again.

 - I like leveling chars up to the max - Alt's is a big plus (able to make a few chars on a server). I prefer doing it by quests and not by grinding for ages. I can surivive doing it for some time, but it shouldn't be based on it.

 - Crafting

What I would like to avoid:

Insane grinding

Slow gameplay

I have tried some games out the last couple of years:

  • World of Warcraft - I stopped playing this 3-4 months ago, because it seemed like it was just the same over and over, not much new stuff (in my opinion) was added. I had a lot of alts and had tried most of it. I suppose I somehow just got bored of the game. I liked leveling and making money - The crafting part also took an important part of my playing.

  • Planetside - I loved this game and I still find it facinating, the problem is just the population, which makes me want to avoid it. The graphics are also outdated. I really liked the instant action, being able to change which vehicles I could drive very fast and the way the game was built up

  • Lord of the Rings - I like the books/movies and because of that I thought I should try this out (bought it some years ago and tried it again recently). I just found it very slow and boring - Which meant that after 10 days, I stopped playing it again.  I just think it wasn't my type of game.

  • Warhammer - A month ago I started on Warhammer as well (the trial), to see if that was something for me. I played it for two weeks and then the interest was kind of lost as well. I liked the pvp, it was great fun, but when I got into T2, the fun part (RVR) for some reason, was less than what I had had earlier.

  • Eve-Online - Have played this the last week or so and it is indeed a great game - No doubt! In the end I just found it a little too slow for my liking, I would like something with more instant action or at least where there are more stuff going on, than shooting at a ship far away and waiting for skills to get learned (taking days to get a skill up...).

  • Dungeons and Dragons Online - I bought this game a year or two ago as well and back then I definetly didn't find it entertaining, I stopped playing it pretty fast. I can't really remember what I didn't like, maybe it was all the instancing or it just wasn't "different enough" compared to WoW (both mmorpg - Here I mean, it wasn't a big different like going from a rts- to a fps game) - Played them at the same time. I could give the trial a try, but I'm not sure if I would like it now either.

  • Age of Conan - I have also tried AoC out, actually bought the Collector's edition, because I hope it would be outstanding and I could use some of the hardware in my computer at fullest. I was terribly dissapointed though, when I got to level 50 or around there, because the quests was very very limited (and I like leveling, but I also like some variety in it, so I don't just have to pick that specific quest - As in an option to choose other quests). I heard that they have made a major patch recently, but I'm not really sure, if I should give it or shot or if it's still just the same. I think it really has to be something  to get me back to it. The combat system was pretty fun and it was kind of the only game I really tried a stealth class out.

Besides the games listed above, I have tried a few other games for a short time and uninstalled them quickly because I didn't find the graphic that nice or they just seemed boring:

Vanguard (graphic), Final Fantasy (interface/game play), Line Age 2 (graphich/char models), Star Wars Galaxies (seemed pretty dead the times I tried it out), Everquest 2 (graphic), Guild Wars (cool game, just didn't get the hang of it).

I don't mind trying different kinds of MMO's out, I have no specific kind of MMO type I like the most (At least I find Eve/WoW/Planetside very different and I still found them all entertaining in their way). I'm all up for trying the above games out again (besides WoW/Planetside/LoTRO/Warhammer/Eve) if you think I should give them another try (maybe I just didn't test them enough).

As I said earlier, I don't need all the things stated above in a game. I would just like some suggestions on games I should try out or take a look at (upcoming games). I don't feel like paying for a game without trying it or the very least watch a lot of video's and read some information about it.

I have looked a little at Aion and MO, but something tells me those two will just be two games I will play for some time and then throw them away. I could of course preorder and try the closed beta's out, but I'm not completely sure if it's worth it.

I hope you have some advice/suggestions for me, anything will do!

Sounds to me like you are burned out on mmo's.

I would suggest taking some time away from mmos and wait for the next wave of them to hit in a year or 2.

Im sorry i dont really know any others that you didnt list.

Hehe ok, also what I thought. I just don't see many single player games I feel like trying out. I have recently played Fallout 3, which was great fun, but I'm pretty much done with it. I have looked around for others, but it seem a little limited... And I know there are always some MMO's I could try out again, just need the motivation I suppose.

As it is now I suppose I should try EQ2/Vanguard/AoC out again, but I'm not really sure if I would find them that interesting/worthwhile.

I've played most of the games you have listed and frankly, do not want to play them anymore. However, this weekend, I played AION in the closed beta and was very surprised how much I enjoyed it, far more than any you have listed. Unfortunatley, they have bi-monthly play until release, not happy about that, but certainly eager  to continue playing.

I think he is talking about only letting people play the beta game on the weekends until release.

Yeah ok, I read that. Would have been annoying to pay for a beta at least...
