Why the two 'make fun of' threads got deleted for dummies

Man1acMan1ac Member Posts: 1,428

I bet you if I made a thread to stereotype Americans about being overweight and stupid. it'd get reported faster than a cat's reflex. Why? Because obviously most of the forum users are American. To my educated guess there are far less users on this forum who are religious or homosexual. So that's why all these threads keep popping up and users getting away with saying awfully offensive stuff. I actually admire the mods for the deleting those two threads to try keeping the forum clean.

I really get some hateful comments made when I say I am a gay Christian.  And when I write about how my church does not interpret the Bible to say that homosexuality is bad, the cannons usually let lose!

It's interesting how everyone thinks Mods have one reason or another for banning people or dropping threads.

    There's an old saying...

"If everyone hates you at work, you are either doing your job extremely well or extremely crappy."

I honestly don't know which one applies here, nor do I care very much overall to make a topic about it though.

Fine, let's see what happens the next time outfctrl calls all liberals immoral socialist.  I won't report it, and I bet those who reported my thread won't either.  Unless of course they really want to honor their code of "hate posts should be deleted".  Which I doubt.

Rather than argue your point, you just contact a mod to delete it so you can't be proven wrong.

Racism and Religion is everywhere, both of those elements are beliefs, truth or not, they believe what is right and what is wrong, simple. BUT what the mods did was an act of IQ being put to full use.

And you'd be fair to complain about that too.

The off - topic section clearly says that the section is loosely moderated and that forum threads can be offensive to certain readers. This describtion is clearly false as the off - topic section is very heavily moderated and censored. Even threads that have a good discussion going on get locked and warnings are tossed around everywhere.

There are actually lots of religious people on this forum. in fact, i think the majority of frequent posters here are christian.

Just out of simple curiosity, have you ever reviewed Gnostic scriptures regarding homosexuality? I think you would be a bit surprised (as would your church) to see what lies within.

Whatever happened to personal beliefs being personal?  George Carlin said it best, Please keep thy religion to thyself. I would like to add sexual preference to that as well. Forced TMI is forced TMI.

Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!

Well I certainly feel sorry for them, I'm yet to see a topic named all you non Jesus believes should go to hell. Or anything of the sort. And back to your point...what?! Debates about religion or whatever are fine, not one which is clearly offensive. Or maybe I'm crazy for thinking an 'official lets make fun of the bible thread' is offensive.

If you truly enjoy these type of topics there are many other forums you can use.

The off - topic describtion warns about possible offensive content. If you're sensetive to offensive content, you shouldn't enter, it's that simple.

It's not like the OP of that post didn't back up his points or as if there wasn't a discussion going on.

I shouldn't have to move over to other forums, there was a time when I could discuss these topics right here, but this is longer the case.

You find it offensive, that's fine.  What about the posts that other people might find offensive.  There are posts made every day that I'm sure some people don't like, but they don't get touched.

There have been topics dedicated solely to making fun of the muslim religion and/or the people that follow it, it never got deleted.  Same with scientology.

Either cater to everyone, or no one.  You can't pick and choose.

lol find it hilarious that the 2 main religion haters are the first to reply to maniac's post about how offensive it can be to ..... make fun of, or insult/criticise a religion and its people .......... because you know ...... that isnt offensive or anything ........ Also heres something that may surprise you, calling anti-homosexuals haters and posting hate filled posts by said group is bad, then making posts of the same nature about another group of people ... is hypocritical.

Throwing insults around should be bannable, for all sides of the fence. Quit QQing

You didn't read or didn't understand what I posted.

I know what I post sometimes is offensive to some people.  I also know that things posted by others here could be offensive to me.  I'm saying moderate any and all offensive material on this board (which is a lot) or don't moderate it at all.  Don't choose to delete the anti religion post while keeping the anti-homosexual post.

Just because someone says something I don't like or view as hateful doesn't mean I'm going to report it to the mods.  I'll post in it myself and try to prove them wrong.  Ya know, have a discussion....on a discussion board.  Who knew!

ah ok i guess i didnt understand what you said. TBH when you see the anti-muslim and anti-homosexual threads, report them. If it doesnt get deleted, report the offensive posts in the thread. although you probably already do this. (i hope) And odds are if you view something as hateful it mostly is imo. I believe its the posts that offend you which is more based on personal opinion.

I'm also all for discussion on ... a discussion board. But threads like 'official lets make fun of the bible thread' do not encourage discussion at all. Atleast not in a constructive way.

P.S. I missed the threads that were deleted, i just used the "thread title" from a previous post.

I'm never going to report anything (other than one I just reported in another thread to prove a point).  Better off discussing it and trying to get someone to see how they're wrong than to just say "oh don't say that."

And if it's a really bad post, they just make themselves look stupid.

This is a very constructive view of things

The act of point out faults(whether from a personal view or not) and trying to educate/persuade the person on the subject is a lot more meaningful then "I don't agree with this therefore it should not be heard". Censorship is one of the main problems of the modern era.

lol you must be new here. I dont think in all these years anyone has been "persuaded, or educated" in a religous discussion. Maybe for those few threads that were made by people wanting to know more about something. But anti-religion threads are made by people who cannot be persuaded or educated due to their beliefs which are already so concrete to them, that anything anyone else says disagreeing with them is brushed to the side, ignored, or criticised.

EDIT: same can be said with political debates. I havent seen many people change their views on much of anything, unless they did so themselves after being disapointed with their party's direction or decisions.

Religion is not free of criticism. Period.

Religion isn't a valid excuse for bigotry either, and "bashing" people who post hateful arguments does not equal hating a person for their sexual orientation, race, gender or anything else.

Being intolerant to intolerance is not the same as being intolerant to anything else.

And that is mainly our fault {talking about christians} We arn't supposed to be critics, if we follow our faith and what it says, we should leave all of the judging up to God, which is what I try to do, I see many toppics on forums, or hear people talking at work...and although there view is very very diffrent from mine, it is not my place to judge. In the end I believe that we will all be judged. And so its not our place.

But we are also human, so somtimes people get under are skin, just like everyone else...

For me, I just have a problem remembering that at times,

Think about it for a minute.

    Educated Guess.

Is that more valid than a ignorant guess?

After all they are just assumptions.

Anyhow all that aside. Usually when enough of a cabal on this forum report ( yes we know there are forum cabals, they exist on every community) then no doubt it will be locked.

I'm all for freespeech, whether i dislike it or not personally. Alas advertising is involved here. You are mistaken when you think it's majority of anything. The internet is fluid. One day 50 americans to 1 U.K member may be the truth. However the next it could be the opposite. Thing is I being an American know first hand that Americans are more than willing to forgoe the whole FREEDOM OF SPEECH when they dislike something. This is a culture of sheep for sure. I being a sheep myself. One is taught to be as much. Our base principality on things has become reverse of what in the start was a fairly good idea (Even though in end we all should know America was paying FAR LESS in taxes than those of the other empire colonies.)

In the end it's closed minded rejects who can't cut a debate who tend to report and end threads with their "Nerd Punch" (it's like a falcon punch, except instead of being totally baddass it's quite pathetic.) I would not be surprised if this thread were deleted soon for "hate/trolling/intelligent debate".

Enjoy your infusion of American Culture. The Culture of censoring everything from nipples to words like ass.

Definition of educated guess - a guess which is made using judgment and a particular level of knowledge and is therefore more likely to be correct. You're right the internet is fluid. But come on dude. I've used these forums enough to make an 'educated' guess. I mean near the US' presidency elections and after, in fact always there be a million topics regarding US politics. When Obama got elected this section was swarmed with Obama this Obama that. I'm yet to see a huge swarm when any other president gets elected. So yea I made an educated guess not an ignorant guess.
