Saga of Ryzom, why?, nice storyline (RP will be great), skill-based, original, great graphics, massive groups of monsters can attack towns/outposts.
I find it like an Ultima Online/Anarchy Online mix
Well, its just an advice for ex-UO (and AO) players
Comments
ya i beta tested ryzom and ill have to disagree with that post 110%, sorry
Maybe cuz you didnt like Anarchy Online, but i feel SoR a nice mix between UO and AO
BTW, what Beta did you play?
The reason #1 i like SoR is the storyline, its so sweet i could Role Play all day . Thats one similarity with old UO, storyline, RP
Reason #2 is: Great planet, the graphics look pretty sweet, the world is just wonderful
Reason #3: Mob raids affected by players, lets say, if you and your friends go and kill inocent tribes or kitins (Kitins are the "EVIL" creatures) they may recall for more mobs, if you kill many, expect some large and massive town/outposts invasions. It just remembers me the old UO events. But in this game, before fighting hand to hand with the creatures, youll be able to kill them with a big arsenal of artillery, you will be able to kill many mobs before they touch you.
Reason #4: Skill-based, another similarity with UO
wrong again i love AO, when i played i got a 198 Enf a lvl 200 doc and a 150ish agent
All UO seems to be is a lot of skilled scripters. The best PvP people are those that have the best scripts and macros that compliment their millions in gear. Lootiing, training, PvP, everything seems to have a script now. You can 7x a char in what, a day max? A boat, a script, and that's about it. What is the point in the game anymore?
The point used to be the die hard PvP, then they nerfed it. Then after that what was left. The communication in the game is non existent, you basically can't keep in touch with ANYONE in the game inless you have 3rd party programs to assist. Not to mention that if you use these you end up dying just to see what someone is saying to you.
I guess the only thing keeping UO alive is the "Old School" players that like to keep things simple. Those folks that like to craft, grow plants, and basically be for the most part alone inless you have a head set and some friends. For a MMORPG this game seems to be the most anti-social game in all of existence. You can be the best player in the game and never even say hello to another player.
never really played AO..but ex-UO-addict.
i gave SoR a shot but i gotta say i wasnt feelin it
UO vet here
No other MMORPG will be like UO
BUT, i find SoR very good.
And yes, I played AO
Yes I too was an addict of UO..quit two years ago. I cant imagine what its like now. If anybody who liked pvp is still playin let me know. I though Darkfall looks like it could be the next game worth playing and yes I do agree there will never be another UO. Only thing with DF is we arent gonna be playin it till the end of 05 or early 06.
Uh, originally non of that fancy-smancy stuff existed. We used ICQ beta version and we LIKED it. Imagine a chat program that consistently crashed multiple times a day for hours. Hard to imagine right? That used to be bleeding edge. I scoff at your insinuations. Not having any of the modern novelties of in-game chat systems such as area wide (crap) channels merely meant the relationships kept in the game were closer. Imagine that, you actually had to put effort into staying in contact with someone. You started to know people on a local and regional level. It was far more immersive and compelling. When you traveled from Vesper to Yew, or Trinsic, you could FEEL the culture change. And in the snow too.
And, I think the heart of the game technically died with the Renaissance expansion.
Firstly why is it that 80% of people on forums complain?
Secondly Scripting, don't like it dont do it, that simple. I only played 2 years and never once touched a script. and the only macros I used were ones IN the interface for simple stuff like bandaging or casting.
Thirdly, Anti-social!? Are you mad? UO is the only MMO that has such a thick community crafted gear is the ONLY way to go and you don't get that from being antisocial. and you can't possibly be the best player in the game with no player interaction, I know I've won plenty of battles agianst script kiddies who think there all boss cause the just bought all their gear offa ebay and DL'd the hottest scripts. thats BS.
no script can counter good tactics.
I've played T2A, Ren, LBR, and AOS, there have been changes both good and bad but over all it still stands high on my list, nothing will ever be like UO, and if they would make the rest of the game besides the Chars look a little better it might just go back to the top.
Just my thoughts.
damn complainers

God: What will you do instead?
Me: Sin.
God: Sounds like a plan.
Not to be anti PvP player, but the game was not designed as a super PvP game. I originally started playing UO not long after it First came out. At first it was all about making friends and building guilds and societies, and adventuring, which is what the game was designed for. To build communities, hence houses and people who pratically made towns out of areas. Sure there was PvP, alot of PvP, so much PvP that if you wanted to travel anywhere you better hope your slow as hell dial up (what was it then 14.4 brain freeze on that) didn't lag when EVERY pvp player (evil stupid kids most of them)were a Caster and nuked you. Oh and you better run naked so they can't rob you. When they started losing HUGE masses of customers and getting tons of complaints about never being able to do anything without getting wacked on thats when they started Nerfing PvP. Hell there are still exploits in the game so that you can PvP some poor innocent soul trying to raise their defense against magic. Of course you could spend th emoney and just start the game with a god character via UO's advance character account system. which really sucks. There's nothing left in the game to do other than sit around with your house and make crap. They really killed it with the last expansion which was nothing but land for houses, they should of done that years ago when housing became a serious issue.
Admittedly they did go way to far in nerfing PvP, instead of splitting the servers in half and offering the PvP shard of the server stuff to lure out innocent, they should of just given the PvP players a couple of servers and an option to move. Hell they could if put in a duel system or guild war only system, that'd of made most pvp players happy and the pve players happy.
ok done ranting *grin* I just...after several years of on again and off again playing ... to be honest..the game started sucking ...hence why as of like a year ago..i permently quit.
Please Refer to Doom Cat with all conspiracies & evil corporation complaints. He'll give you the simple explination of..WE"RE ALL DOOMED!
Amen
You say you played AOS but I would counter that you have not played enough to really make your statements for you would realize that if you have the right artifacts upon your character and the right barbed runic armour plus 3-5 other people in your group who know what they are doing well your never going to die.
There is no skill to PvP, there is only the 5-6 million dollar INSURANCE insured suits and weapons and the ZERG of guilds nowadays.
Listen to the smack talk, thx for the insurance money you were worth a lot of gold. How much risk can a red have for becoming a red when your allowed to insure your items, Hello UO Developers you may create nice lands but your ability to maintain longterm interest well your lack visiblity on a day to day basis.
I do not advise players to come back and play for gameplays sake. I do advise players to come back and play to view the newly designed lands and what the UO Developers have been able to code in the current code base that is what they were given to work with.
I do not advise players to come to play UO to feel like they can compete with the other players unless your willing to find the loopholes that the UO Developers have left in the game far to long to give an inbalance to the people who game the game, against those who simply wish to play the game.
MAKING A PALADIN, is not smart gameplay its gaming the game because the UO Developers have allowed them to be the best damage dealer for far to long, Tamers are Number two now, and tamers are still pathetic as well.
I've recently came back to UO and it doesn't seem half bad...granted the PvP aspect is almost null the PvM is fairly entertaining. with the inrtoduction of the paladin, necromancer, ninja, and samurai skill books players are becoming more rounded.
Sam's are good defenders which lend themselves well into the tanking aspect while palies and necromancers are good for added dmg. I've seen fencing, swords, axe, arrow, and magic based paladins and necros.
I really don't have much experience with ninja's yet. I know they can fight in animal form and whatnot but unsure of the exact advantages that gives.
The new guild system is pretty good as well. Since they no longer have the guild stones you can mange the guild far easier with guild being on the paper doll. 5 'layers' of guild leader, warlord, embassary, member, and ronin (I imagine ronin is for those recently joined thats in for a trail period).
The runic weapon and armors are still the biggest thing, but I am seeing alot of people using the minor arties now. I don't know exactly how easy they are to get compared to the Doom arties but most of them are still fairly decent. The Luna Lance is a new minor artie which uses best weapon skill, chiv +10 or 12 and some other stuff. not bad and going price is ~100K and not the millions the the Doom arties are still going for.
The chats kind of odd now since there is no long general chat. you open a chat room and give it a password. Makes in game help a bit harder since there is no longer the 'Newbie room' to go to. Makes players actually talk face to face more. I have had some good and bad times so far with this. ICQ is still the way to go for comunication or any other 3rd party chat program really.
Scripters...well I haven't been affected by them so far. I don't PvP so I don't worry about outside macros either. Can't really give a positive or negitive to either of these at this time.
Couldn't agree more, but didn't SP come about after that? I know I pretty much transferred everything over to SP (the second time) when it was launched (damn you SuN for the delay)
Anyways, In Por Ylem, one of them free servers is/maybe was? based on the Pre UO:R era, I played it a bit...but that was at least a year or so ago...
Where do you find those free servers, anyway?
Its been awhile, but go to runuo.com and dl that, then uogateway and dl that
runuo is to play uo, gateway is for the list of servers you can access
All you got out of UO for its purpose was PVP? Thats it? Thats rather sad.
