WoW – How to do player launching catapults HD VIDEO (WAR/AOC take note)

coffeecoffee Member Posts: 2,007

Decided to pop into the new 40v40 battle ground in WoW PTR 3.2 today, found out they added two new vehicles, a glave thrower and more impressive a player launching catapult.

I decided to do a little video on how this works, still wonder why WAR and AOC still don’t have these in game yet… WoW leading the way as usual (runs and hides).

WoW makes you go wow sometimes :p. Thanks for posting this.

On the surface its a rather simple mechanic but Blizzard have worked hard on the vechicle system to allow them to get to this point.  Blizzard now offers what WAR and AOC have promised but not delivered, impossible to dispute that now.

From my point of view the implementation of all these features are more interesting when considering the potential in the hidden MMO. In other words, in a setting where vehicles will have much more sense than they do in WoW currently.

As it is now, WoW tries to be a lot of things, ends up being a fun game, but has long lost the proper world feeling.

    Hmm, WoW does it again.

I've not played WoW for ages as I got bored of a long time ago. However, I haven't really played anything else for any amount of time since I quit.

Although WoW may no longer be my cup of tea, it's ridiculous how far ahead of the rest of the pack it is. I think it's the quality of the initial product that has helped. By capturing and then dominating the market with a product which was highly polished at release, they've always been one step ahead of the competition.

The amount of money the game generates must put Blizzard at a significant advantage, but ultimately their dev teams must be extremely well managed.

    40 vs 40? Oh snap!!

That's what Im talking about. That's pretty Epic stuff!

AoC players wouldn't be interested in this kind of EPIC. They prefer a game where the music is far more Epic than the actual game.

    Shhhhheeeeeeet.

Indeed, while AoC blind fanboys wait for some messiah to fix their beloved sieges or the whole game, for that matter, I'm gonna be enjoying in Isle of Conquest and continue participating in Wintergrasp. Massive pvp ftw!

Well that is the nail in the coffin for AoC and WAR. It seems WoW can even do rvr better than mythic. Player launching catapults, pure genius.

    Fun just evolved :)

It does look fun, but nothing I'd like to see in AoC.

The Edge... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over.

    Heh, pretty cool.

Just remember that in WAR, one of the first Greenskin quests was to get in a "catapult" thing, and launch yourself (fairly choppily) onto some set place.

What Blizzard has done here is pretty cool, though, and definitely (as always seems to be the case) well polished.

Generally, the "seige" weapons in WAR are fairly below-average in what you'd expect.

I kinda want to go back to WoW... I got bored of it, and wanted something new... but nothing is as good as WoW =(

I am playing EVE and it's alright... level V skills are a bit much.

I think I might have gotten my expectations up by reading all the reactions before seeing the actual clip, so I got a sense of 'The Emperors new clothes'

well stated, and I couldn't agree more that this is the downfall of the MMO as I see it.  Sure everyone is entertained, in a mass-entertainment kind of way. Like reality tv is to television sort of.

I'm not "moaning" about the features, but at the context in which they are implemented. I'm sure that they will get better utilised in the new MMO, provided the lore is more appropriate.

At this point in time WoW is undergoing an identity crisis. What exactly is the WoW lore?

    1. Fantasy?
    2. Steampunk?
    3. Sci-fi?
    4. A little bit of everything?

I'm pretty sure the features will be exciting to play, but do they fit in the context of this game? It's like making a soup, but instead of using a recipe, you just throw in whatever you think its cool from the shelves.

I'm sure that the features will play great as I already said in the previous post. However, what exactly is WoW at this point?

    1. Is it an online world?
    2. Is it a game?
    3. Is it a theme park?
  • ClatilClatil Member Posts: 41

I haven't played the game in a while, but what I do know if it is that as far as theme is concerned, for the most part, it simply doesn't matter.  Blizzard has the ingenuity and funds to do whatever they want to, and giving this game a specific world feel has never been part of their agenda.

The World of Warcraft Mountain Dew is indication enough that this game is most certainly a "Theme park."  Where it's alright to be a nerd because there are TV commercials, and the game can throw in the newest gimmicks they want without a good enough reason, like a catapault, just because people are going to love playing around with it.  There is never a fear that anyone will question why it is there.

An awesome new roller coaster wouldn't be harshly questioned in the context of a park's "theme"

I am not even going into this WoW lead the way thing.  Just realize that WoW have been out in the market much longer and made more money.  Plus I can think about at least 10 games with catapaults of sort in MMORPG, however that is before the WoW grown and bred generation of gamers.

AoC and WAR have been out how long?  Moot point.  It was a right decision to go run and hide.

  • HorniakHorniak Member Posts: 77

Well what's the difference from the siegetanks catapults or other siege weapons already in the game? Oh it was just the model.

Everyone already know WAR and AOC didn't deliver what they promised. But that don't make WoW good. For me the gamemechanic to simple. I want more advanced crafting, playercities, vendors, more classes and variety in everything. But thats just me ;) Wow have a great PVE though, but it becomes quite booring after awhile until the next raid dungeon gets released.

  • cukimungacukimunga Member UncommonPosts: 2,258

Well there are catapults in WAR I think this was the only one in the game that launches players. Im not sure why they didn't make them a siege weapon. www.youtube.com/user/killphilvol1#play/uploads/7/ax9h35jmrOY

Are you kidding? Have you even played Warcraft? 2 and 3? etc? The lore is awesome and if you think they have an identity crisis it just tells me you do not play WoW, stfu please...

They also show their development chops by the fact that raiders have been doing this since 3.1.  They rolled this out in a small "production test" method with raiders on the flame leviathan encounter and its successful implementation eventually led to this.
