I agree with the argument that good graphics don't necassarily make a good game. But with graphics like this it sure as hell don't hurt. I hope the gameplay is as good as the graphics for Aion.

The gameplay is better then the graphics. Graphics still don't match up to AOC but they are decent. Its the environment that is really stunning.

Gah; this just makes my lapse of aion for 2 weeks even harderrrr. That zombie dude in the bottom right hand corner looks pretty much awesome.

Anyone think that they would .. release earler then sept 22nd? ; like on the 2nd as they had planned previously if the CB only last until mid august i believe?

    Get over it already.

Winning graphics (and very smooth for their quality), especially when the gameplay lives to the expectation from these graphics.

I think that there's plenty to get excited about for most MMORPG players.  Aion uses the standard "kill 10 whoozits" stuff, but it has other tasks mixed in.  The last 'quest' that I did before the most recent beta event ended had me trying to figure out who scribbled inside of a "priceless book".  It served to learn the area better and was a nice break from the "kill 5 whatevers", even though those certainly do make up most of the tasks in the game.

Fraps totally screwed the pooch on me so there's no sound and the quality isn't what it should have been, but here's a video of me running about to complete the book quest:  www.youtube.com/watch

The tasks are old hat, but as far as an MMORPG goes Aion is pretty good.  It'll probably hold me over until SW:TOR.  Personally I really want a MMO that's more story driven, but Aion has some well written story in it as well.  Time will tell if it's good or not. :)

Yeah, Aion is kind of funny in that way.  You'll have tons of "kill x of y" quests, but then out of nowhere they will hit you with an epic story of a quest.   For example: Some random guard at Altguard fortress tells you his story - he was found in the nearby forest as a child, with only a necklace as a clue to his previous family (Star Ocean 2 flashbacks), and gives it to you in hopes you can track them down.  You end up tracking it back to a noblewoman in pandemonium, who insists she's never had any children, and you must be mistaken, but that necklace does belong to her, and she tells you to give it back to the person along with the matching box for it.  If you open the box before giving it back to the guy, there's a long and very detailed letter that tells a very interesting story about how that guard came to be in the situation he's in (I won't spoil the rest for those who haven't played it).

Anyway, I stopped and read through that whole thing for about 5 mins, it was a nice break from the killing lol.  Even though the standard kill quests kind of discourage it sometimes, you can actually pick up a lot of extra value from reading the quests, and the text items that sometimes come with them.  I recommend it for anyone who is going to start fresh with the game next beta event or at launch.

The graphics are really not all that. The game is beautiful but technically nothing spectacular. The most important thing is that Aion is fun to play.  There are simple kill quests, but they dont go on forever like other games. the long quests are quite interesting.
