I don't understand where people get the idea that the graphics aren't good, maybe their computers suck. It may not push the highest polys but it's still a very immersive and beautiful world.

I'll give you half of that, the graphics could be called beautiful, in a dark, gritty kind of way.

But I never found the world of DF "immersive", it just always felt dead to me.

    Just my opinion, of course.

  • TrenchgunTrenchgun Member Posts: 295

It's not forced immersion, but it's immersive in a natural way of looking good, having no instances, and being more realistic about the way it distributes mobs in camps and ruins.

    Great video.  Thank you.

I don't know where half the opinions stated as fact on this forum about DFO come from to be honest.   My in game experience is very different from the picture painted on message boards.   Any way, a picture is worth a thousand words so a video is worth hundreds of thousands hehe....  Interested gamers should watch more videos on YouTube instead of the forums.

Sorry, I disagree. A video showing the parts of the game that don't work well ( like AFK botting, etc. ) wouldn't lend themselves to videos, it'd just be boring.

A discussion regarding the flaws of DF should be available for potential players to see what they're getting into.

I have always felt DF is beautiful in it's own way. The artistic differences between the dark depressing Alfar lands and  happy go-lucky Elf lands always felt immersive.

For a seamless world mmorpg its got good eye candy.

Especially the flying boat one.  That one is high-larious.

I love the DF graphics and I believe it does help to have shadows on to somewhat understand that.

That said, compared to other MMOs I personally find DF graphics a TON better artistically speaking.

I really do not like WoW or EQ2 graphics at all.

Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

Please do not respond to me

DFO looks is one of the things that bother me the most. The design is generic and uninspired, the color pallete is amateurish, and the animations are mummy-stiff. Since it has its own lore and world, they could have done much more, but preferred to play safe and used most (if not all) MMO clichés. It's a drab fantasy world.

Of course, there are some good things. I like the sky (when there are few  to no clouds). Dusk and dawn are pleasing to the eye. But, overall, it is quite ininspired. I really hoped that after almost a decade, the art direction had time to plot a more interesting world than Agon is.

How can you not like EQ2 graphics but enjoy DFs? Just curious. I think they both have good and bad points. Vanguard may have the best though tis a shame its a dead game.

vanguard has 10 times more people playing it than darkfall.

Yes, the Darkfall world is beautiful.

I have to say I`ve only seen the Alfar part in all it's glory. The reason is the Elf's usually kill me really fast when I enter that place and the red dragon took me on my way to the human lands. My favourit is the stars at night. I have several times rode off cliffs looking at those while traveling (amateur astronom). Darkfall has it's flaws, but it's definitiv not the graphics.

Even if DF only had 5k subs there is no way in the bowels of hell VG has 50k. And from what it looks like VG is the one close to the 5 k mark

Definitely not. I'm playing it right now, and the population increased quite a bit in the last few months. It's still a low population game, due to the dismal state the game was launched (DFO flashbacks, anyone?), so it's a mountain climb to increase the population. But the game was fixed and right now, it's the absolute best PvE out there, IMO. Just don't play it if you want PvP, because it's dead.

Vanguard (and EVE, to an extent) are good examples of games that had slow going and got much better with time. DFO still has a glimmer of hope.

Just curious as I haven't kept up on it...

How many total servers does it have, counting both EU and NA servers, as well as it's PvP servers?

um.. last time I played VG... the highest pop server had under 1200 people playing at peak times... and there are 4 servers... one of them had 80 people on at peak times.

    Just curious...

What would you say is the percentage of total subscriptions that is playing at any particular time?

I have heard as low as 10% and as high as 50%... I'd be curious to hear what people think the correct percentage is for Vanguard and DarkFall.

Obviously we are just guessing, and it won't prove anything... but I'd still be curious to hear what people think.

    I think people under-rate Darkfall's graphics. Great PVP + beautiful world = can't fail.

DF's poor subscription numbers would make one think that your equation is flawed.

I actually meant long-term can't fail. As far as I know Darkfall sub numbers are still going up, it's just that opening the second server meant that to some players it seemed like there was a bit of a sharp drop especially I guess if you had lots of US players in your clan. EU-1 (where I play) is pretty much the same, but then I rarely ever played late enough to mix with many americans. One would think opening a second server means their sub numbers are going Ok.

I would suppose that if all you did was walk/ride around the world without having to deal with anything else, the ambiance can be considered adequate.

VG has way more than 5K players. They are probably around 30K total .. maybe more than that since the trial island opened up there has been quite a few new players.

What he may be getting at is that for quite some time DarkFall had to "ration" the number of accounts available for DarkFall.  There was a time when so many were trying to buy the game that even getting the account page to load was an exercise in futility.

    Those days are long gone.

Now they have even added the Buy Now button to the web-site.  A missing item that ardent supporters once pridefully said pointed to the popularity of DarkFall.

It was also predicted by at least one ardent supporter that DarkFall NA would "sell out" in 4 hours or less.

    Well, here we are today.

No one can argue that it has been a long time since DarkFall had to worry about queue during login, or the account page being flooded by prospective buyers.

Is it possible that Aventurine has upgraded their capacity to the extent that they still have the same amount buying their product and they are able to handle it?  Yeah, I suppose that's possible.  I'm not sure if you'd get a very large percentage betting on that scenario though.

I think most would agree that if anything the population for DarkFall is stagnant.  By stagnant I mean, just enough new players are coming in to replace those that are leaving.

There are still a consistent amount of posts saying the population is a concern on both servers but NA especially.

I don't think anybody is complaining that the servers are too full.

So what is the truth of the matter?  Nobody here will be able to say with any degree of accuracy.  The next test that DarkFall needs to hurdle is the transfer period from EU-1 to NA.  If they can make it past that and keep both servers running with a healthy population through the end of the year... they have a real shot to survive.

I think that if DarkFall does survive to the end of the year it will be a small victory for them.  Who knows they might even be able to convince Tasos to leave and give themselves a real shot at being a success.

The last sentence in this post wins. I would love to see a DISCUSSION that wasn't blown apart by the rabid fanboys as well as the haters. Just observations and the like. I find it is almost impossible to get an unbiased opinion of this game, one I would very much like to give a go.

So just drop 50 Euros on the game and give it a go. You will find out for yourself who is correct, the sycophantic laplicking failbots, or the "haters" with their logical factual arguments.

Waiting for someone else to make your decisions for you is a sign of someone that is easily manipulated and doesn't think for themselves.

I am sure this does not describe you so be a man and make a decision or be a mouse and scamper around the boards waiting for someone else to make up your mind for you.
