Alright, i'm really thinking about purchasing this game but i'm in need of community knowledge of and unbiased opinions. What are the pro's and con's of this game? what makes it better then EQ2? i've done my research but i'd really like to hear out the forum community.
thanks in advance.
P.S. i'll be writing the same thing in the EQ2 forum and then conjure up my final opinion of which game to purchase.
please be as detailed as possible

If you really haven't decided which MMO to go for, here's my advice for what it's worth:
Buy them both.
This way you'll be able to base your decision on personal experience and you won't have to deal with any niggling doubts that the grass might be greener on the other side of the fence.
I was lucky enough to save $50 by getting into the beta of both games and disregarding the one I found to be drastically inferior.

Yup. In my opinion EQ2 is a slightly below-average MMO and WoW is the best MMO ever made.
Your opinion may differ although it's unlikely, statistically speaking.
EDIT: Sorry for not going into detail, but really - everything you need to know is out there. Google is your friend.
EQ2, if it sucks, will get better, then once SoE sees that it is a SMASHING success will screw the game over royally and turn it into complete crap.
WoW is made by a respectable company, and will only continue to get better till individual players get bored and the games community itself declines.
Personally i would try both and see which one YOU like, as our opinions are completely unlike yours in every way, shape, and form.
If you have a friend who has one, ask if you can try it and see if you like it, and buy the second one whenever you can if you decide in favour of the first one.
I'll tell you now WoW isn't perfect, and the only truely revolutionary concept of WoW is the death system, so don't expect anything beyond a new storyline and environment plus an interesting choice of graphics from WoW. The best part about WoW is they took all the good from other MMO's and completely got rid of the hassel and grinds when able. I believe WoW's biggest appeal is the end-game and PVP (or at least it WILL be) so you won't need to go through a grind to get up there, like you do in DAoC and other such games.
I don't know much about EQ2, but i know the company, and i know how much i dislike/hate SoE. It won't stop me from trying EQ2 at a later date, but it will make sure that if i do like EQ2, i can expect to hate it eventually strictly because of dev involvement, or lack there-of. If you want a list, SoE killed EQ1 (hell they made 10+ expansions and after the fourth when they made them they killed it) SOE killed SWG by turning it into one huge grind-fest and many imbalancing issues, and SoE is killing PS too due to not advertising and adding too many imbalanced features.
For a list of what bliz has done, theres W1, W2+x, W3+x, diablo, diablo 2+x and starcraft + x are the games i know of. WIth exception to OBVIOUS balance issues and bugs due to laziness by not caring at the time about their servers, all 6 of those games plus the expansions (when applicable) are all SOLID games and still keep people hooked on them to this day. I know i probably missed games they did wrong, but those are the 6 games i know of that they made.
If mmos were books id see it as follows.
EQ2 would be a new revised Dictionary. Not too much fun to read but very good at what it was designed for. And very heavy going and serious.
WoW would be a three book triolgy about a guy called Tasslehof Burrfoot and his friends. All colour and fun and a right good read.Once finished youd want to read again and tell yer friends to read it.Easy going and lighter that the above.
In the end its up to the individual which oen they want to read but personally (playing both at same time helps me here) id rather plump for colour and fun over olive-drab-bland and oh-so-serious grown up mmo.
well the best way to see which game is the best, would be to check out the rating on this site!
And at http://gamerankings.com
This site is user-vote based,
gamerankings has both user-vote based score, and they have all the major game-magazines and sites average rating.
to spare you the surfing,
WOW is miles ahead og eq2
Imyself is just waiting for january so wow gets out!
And i wouldnt say that EQ2 sucks, in that site the difference is of like of 5 to 7 points average(considering the reviews one by one), and eq2 next to the others mmorpgs still has a better score(with exceptions of course).
Its just that it WoW has better score in practically every site, so it still wins( considering that the "peoples" rating in many sites wow wins also)...
In the end Wow is still the winner, but i wouldnt call a game with 85% rating, a game that sucks...
To be fair, it really depends on what type of game that you are looking for. It also depends on what type of system you have.
- EQ2 requires at least 1 gig of RAM and a 128 mb video card to run the game with enough options turned on to make it look beautiful.
- If you like the option of PvP, then WoW is your only choice, as EQ2 has none. In WoW there are dedicated PvP servers, or you can go on the servers without PvP if your prefer.
- EQ2 is not a very solo-friendly game, so if you like to play extended periods solo you will not go anywhere at all in EQ2.
- This might sound silly, but here is why I chose WoW over EQ2 after giving them both a chance. In EQ2, especially in lower levels, you zone like every 2 minutes. Since I like to "feel" like I am part of the world, I found this to be unacceptable. In WoW there is very little zoning. You can play for hours in WoW without zoning once. I defy you to do that in EQ2.
- I think EQ2 is a terrific game, but I like WoW better. EQ2 arguably has better graphics, but you really do need a super-computer to get them. I have P4, 1.8 ghz with 512K ram and a GeForce 5900 Ultra 128mb video card and I could not run EQ2 with any of the bells and whistles (and I am on DSL if that matters).

Where is City of Heros in that mix? Wasn't that the best game ever for everyone in March? Was getting 10s all around, oh yeah the dumbed down game play destroyed all its fun.
Well this game looks like something i'll be purchasing while browsing the, EQ2 board i saw a rollback topic that did not exactly turn me on towards the game.
maybe i'll have alittle touch of old school UO with the PVP as well.
thanks for everyones help.

We had our share of lag, server problems, downtime so don't think you will escape that.
Also big tip, AVOID carebear servers they are so boring. PvE gets old fast, at least for myself and other friends as well.
He's right. Make sure you start your first char on a PvP server, because when the Honor system and Battlegrounds are implemented, WoW is gonna go supernova.
EDIT: Although Battlegrounds will be included on PvE servers too since entering them is optional.

Just go for one with medium population, or even just go with whichever one your client automatically recommends.
I'm on Eredar and I haven't experienced a single hint of server lag in over a week.
