they went down at 12:10 central.. about 2 hours after the patch from hell. its about 8pm here now, so that means its been about 8 hours of downtime...
I came from SWG and so i know how bad SOE's patches can screw up their games, but this is crazy.
Lsat update was put up on 17 DEC at 13:00 pm.
I hope whoever writes the updates doesn't write the code. We may be in for a long wait if he/she does.

I keep expecting SOE to come out and say "Well everyone. We're sorry but...uh... Everquest 2 is canceled. But you can still have tons of fun on Star Wars Galaxies!"
That's bull. The initial msg in that thread was posted around 13:00, the main forum doesn't show the times of the replies to that particular thread though. They actually gave an update evey hour. Not that they said more than 'still no ETA', but still, they did give updates.
Latest update (few mins ago), this time in a new thread though:
While we continue to work on the issues that have kept the EverQuest II servers unavailable today, we wanted to let you know that in addition to the experience and tradeskill debt wipes that were announced earlier, we will also be offering free time to help make up for the time you're unable to play. Exact details regarding time extensions will be available once we get past our current problems.
This is a 24/7 effort on behalf of everyone involved. We will not rest until all of EverQuest II is back up and running. We again apologize for the inconvenience this has caused, and thank you all very much for your understanding.

They'll compensate for lost playtime, good thing imho.
The problem must be quite big though. My guess is that a tidbit of buggy coding of the patch changed too much of the main code (if you get what I mean) without anybody expecting it to do that, which would mean they don't have a clue where the problem is, and they just spent the whole day to find the bad codestrings. Just rerolling and putting back an old(er) backup of the db would never take this long I reckon.

13:00 is Military Time for 1pm. ALL Entertainment industry jobs work on a 24 hour basis, in order to handle scheduling properly they use standard government Military timing in which the hours are counted as 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24. 24:00 being Midnight.

And this would be a bad mistake if you were programing because a tiny error like that would screw everything up. Meaning it would be bad if the person who posted this was also the code writer.
