Personally, I cherish games like EQ2 and WoW. They friggin' rule man!! No, not because I play them or want to ever play them again after spending only a few hours with each.
I love both of these over-published, over-hyped, ridiculous excuses for mmorpgs that are (in my opinion) just as quality of mmorpgs as Britney Spears is a real quality singer. Same thing. But in mmorpgs this is good. What it means for me is that most of the 12 year old fanboys, retards, and goobers who think they are clever because they just made a character named "Spiderman 2" or "Bush sucks" or "Azzkicker" or for heaven sakes "Britney Spears" stay out of the game i play. Trust me, a game like the original Asherons Call is such a great game in most part not only because of the game mechanics, but the people who play it. And if games like WoW and EQ2 and keep all the retards, dweebs, and total goobers from infesting the real quality games like Asherons Call (1).. then I praise the hell outta EQ2 and WoW and say "Great Job" Blizzard and Sony! Now all you stream-lined, glitter-graphics, no skill loving fools stay out of a POS game coming up like "Mourning" trust me It'll be total crap.. It will totally suck. Stay there in EQ2 or WoW please. Yes please leave games like Asherons Call: Throne of Destiny and Mourning to players like myself. Mwah ha ha ha!

you should seek help for your anger issues, no offense but you just come across very angry. Anyhow, you should read my first post in this thread which addresses exactly that
btw AC1 was considered pretty mainstream. Maybe not mainstream like UO or EQ, but right there. Definitely more mainstream than alot of the smaller games out today, not to mention wasnt it made partly by Microsoft? Kinda funny that you also act like it didnt have its jerks, since i guarantee you it did, especially on Darktide, i should know since i played SB with alot of them who were some of the biggest griefers i've ever met in a game(also the most notorious exploiting guild from old school UO days i knew played AC Darktide )
Anyhow, if you want to generalize the mmorpg cheaters, jerks, etc., look no further than most PvP games. Dont blame WoW, blame PvP audiences who do their best to exploit, grief, and cheat their way to get the advantage in every PvP game made. Im sure Mourning will be no different so have fun

From all the crap ive read here i recommend that NOBODY base their decision from things that they hear in forums, too many inconsistent and unfundamented posts, sorry.
But lets give people some credit really, No sane person would base their decision from what they hear from an anonymous being of some forum. From all this years i been playing games all ive needed to know if a game its good before buying, its to have a trial version or some good old internet site like gamespot, ign or some other( it used to be gamesdomain for me, but it was buyed by yahoo , and its not that good).
Really if people are looking for unbiased opinions go to those sites instead of wasting time here, waiting until the fanbois get tired of posting...
Hmmm. Let's see. Crock has 550+ posts on these boards. Is always on them. And he has a ONE STAR rating.
How could this be??
And speaking of Asheron's Call (1) Darktide. Ohhhh awesome game. And sure it had it's greifers. But I played the hell outta that game and I guarantee you the player maturity, and the people who played AC1: Darktide are sooooooooooooooooo much different the the players who play games like EQ2 and WoW. All the difference in the world. I'm not saying that no jerks or goobs played AC1, but I am saying the proportions were much different.
AC was mainstream only because it was like the 3rd highly published mmorpg ever following EQ and UO. And I still remember reading articles back right before it was released with people saying that Microsoft was taking a huge gamble trying to get a player base in an already-overcrowded mmo genre and with kings like EQ and UO out there. Some experts actually thought AC would fail miserably. Heh, if only they could see things now. And trust me, the hype and advertising and over glorified BS for Asherons Call is NOTHING compared to what we are seeing about EQ2 and WoW. Talk about over-rated. Talk about Britney Spears... good gawd.
Asherons Call 1 is hardly mainstream nowdays. And seriously it's just a wild guess, but if you were to take the average age and maturity of the average player of WoW and then take the average age and maturity of the average AC player today, I bet it would look something like this: WoW Average Player: Age: 15 Favorite hobbies: Picking nose, making belching noises when a pretty girl walks by, and thinking that George Carlin was a president back in the 1800's. AC1 player: Average age, prolly around 30 with favorite hobbies of playing some good PvP and intelligent convos with friends in AC when he/she gets a break from taking care of the kids in real life, the spouse is out shopping, whatever, and knowing who the hell George Carlin is and maybe even finding him wildly hilarious and mostly honest.
But that's just my opinion and certainly not based on any factual knowledge. Just how I see it.

thats the problem tho, you've never even played EQ2 or WoW, so how can you speak about those audiences? You sure do assume alot on i dunno what. I've played both, including AC1 briefly, as well as having aton of ex AC1 players in a SB guild at one time(who happened to be the most hardcore powergamers i've ever met). I also know the biggest exploiting guild from old school UO Chesapeake shard played AC Darktide. Trust me, if there is a game that attracted the worst of the worst in terms of exploiters/griefers/powergamers, it was AC Darktide. I'm not saying WoW or EQ2 have great audiences, but to act like AC Darktide had such mature, non-exploiting/griefing players is a complete joke. Itd be cool if you criticized EQ2 and WoW for having carebear PvP, but to try and use maturity as the measure of which is better is probably the worst aspect you could use. On top of that your trying to make hardcore PvP games out to have mature audiences which is laughable. I love PvP, but it attracts much worse people than any PvE game does. PvE games tend to attract alot of snobby old people.

i agree, some official reviews end up slanted because they get free access or met the devs, and the writers dont have the courage to say too much bad stuff. Some also end up sponsoring or paying someone like VN/IGN for use as 'official' forums, where the reviews are automatically going to be praising.

Look buddy... Like I said, it's based on nothing factual, it's simply how I see it. And if all these people can come on here and say "WoW sucks" or "EQ sucks crap" or say "WoW has cartoonish graphics" or "EQ2 is gay" 40 billion times, I feel I have just as much right stating how I feel.
And... As I have already stated, I HAVE played both EQ2 and WoW. Spent $39.95 on EQ2 at Bestbuy and installed it, played it 3 times for maybe 1 hour each time. Less then two weeks later, I canceled my subscription before Sony got any more money from me and uninstalled it. I played a friends WoW account for maybe 4 hours, and although it was slightly better then EQ2... It just wasn't for me. So, I HAVE played them both. Trust me on that. Look, I can see you love one or both of them, that's fine. Stay there and enjoy it.
I'm not going to backlash at you cuz you don't like AC1 or it's players. That's fine. But it sure is funny to see the EQ2/WoW fanboys try and protect their games. Heh Heh. Thus, the explanation of the already 400 threads of EQ2 vs WoW.
Britney Spears VS The Spice Girls. (EQ2 vs WoW)
Hmm, I'll take Stevie Ray Vaughan or Huey Lewis and the News. (AC1 or Ultima Online Pre-Trammel)
i'm honestly not just defending WoW or EQ2 here, i didnt even hate AC1 even tho the graphics made me sleepy but loved all the loot diversity, anyhow i'm telling you as a fact the worst players in terms of being griefers, powergamers, exploiters, etc. i know or have met in online games have played AC Darktide, and swear by it. And its almost a given that PvP games have much less mature audiences than any PvE game does. So theres no fanboyism involved, i'm just criticizing how you came up with those silly generalizations of how AC Darktide was so mature. Your generalizations should be abit more realistic imo, but simple fact is i'm just telling you the reality of things.
Again, I just disagree. Maybe it's just the sheer number of awesome friends that I made in my days playing AC: Darktide. And speaking of PvP. PvP in DAoC or PvP in WoW is MUCH different the the raw PvP of AC: Darktide. A lot of people didnt play the Darktide server on Asherons Call simply because they couldn't hack the challenge if it. It was and is definately challenging. The loot loss, Vitae penalty that could rack up to 40% etc was definately much more challenging then is the Mordred server of DAoC for instance.
I like DAoC as well, and have probably put close to the same amount of time in DAoC as I did into AC1. There is absolutely no comparison to me of the quality of conversations, the maturity level of conversations, and the quality of "real" friends made between these two games. So based on my personal experience, I would have to disagree when you try and point out AC: Darktide as being the most inmature, loser-infested crowd of players to ever play an mmo. That I will take personally. Not to back and defend AC like a fanboy, but because of the number of great friends I made in that game. And telling me that the people who played AC1: Darktide are much more inmature, etc etc then those who love and plague this site with 1,000 forums like "EQ2 suxxors" and "WoW is gay" just honestly makes me laugh.
You just don't know man. Heh.
I'm not saying that cool people don't play EQ2 or WoW. I'm simply stating that my opinion of the type of game and type of average player in AC1 vs the type of game and typical type of player in WoW or EQ2 cannot even be compared. You mention AC1: Darktide players as being some of the most hardcore mmo players ever. That I will agree with. And maybe it's just me, but after such a player plays a game like AC1 on the Darktide server, I tend to think EQ2 or WoW would be a joke in comparison. Both the type of game and the type of players would disappoint them, just as they did me.

Guys but if you cant trust in those reviewers that are paid to be objective and at least we know that they have played the game, can you trust in a forum?? are you kidding, how can you tell if the person posting, has played the game at all. Polls can tell you which game is more popular, i guess it depends of what are you looking for.
but in any case WOW seems to be the winner, in both polls and critics reviews, the only site i found where eq2 has better score than wow is gamezone and for 0.1 points. It seems that at least eq2 as less sites where it wins.
Now i didnt consider the poll in this site, but wow wins also. CAn polls be trusted? in my humble opinion, no. You cant tell how many people are actually playing the game. Maybe better than polls is the game playerbase...
Originally posted by kulgan18 Now i didnt consider the poll in this site, but wow wins also. You can tell how many people are actually playing the game. Maybe better than polls is the game playerbase...
Yep, the player base tells all. And Britney Spears and Eminem are much better musicians and more talented then Clint Black, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Loretta Lynn. Just look how many more millions of albums they sold! It's gotta be, cuz there are no stupid people or followers like sheep out there!
Oh..and since the numbers tell all, as you seem to think - Then EQ2 and WoW both suck and should be banned off the face of the earth, cuz Lineage (1) blows them both outta the water by sheer numbers of players. So.. there ya go. It's so easy now. Lineage 1 is the best everyone. Everyone go play Lineage 1. That settles it once and for all! Lineage! Lineage! Lineage 1!
And you didnt read what i said...i said that i trust critics first, then player base and polls at last.
and can you really compare mmorpgs with music??...comparing soccer with icecream flavors??, thats not how it works.
The only thing that matter is finding someone with similar tastes than you, and use it to know what games to try first...thats my opinion. Unless you want to try every single game out there, and waste a lot of money on unwanted stuff.
Heh, I am not comparing musicians to mmorpgs. I am trying to point out your comparisons of mmorpgs vs mmorpgs is like comparing musicians vs other umm musicians. Using effect to make my point. I'm simply trying to say just because McDonalds sells 10 billion more meals then does a world class home-cooked food restaraunt.. doesnt mean that McDonalds food is better! The same goes with any avenue. Music, food, cars, computer brand quality, and yes even mmo player base numbers.
And I understand that you use critics reviews as well. I respect that. But honestly, when it comes right down to it, you really can't trust anything but your own opinion. If I would have trusted a respected magazine critics review of Ultima Online back in 1997.. I probably never would have even tried it. I think it got a score of like a 53% in PC Gamer magazine. And yes that was pre-trammel. Can you imagine Ultima Online getting only a 53% grade for a review back in 1997 when UO was the top dog back then even before Everquest was ever released. Pre-Trammel. Hmmm.
Some people may agree that Ultima Online only deserves a 53% even going back in time to 1997. But that's exactly why even critics reviews can't be taken as what you will like yourself. But I must admit, I also would trust a respected review over sheer numbers or polls.

Mwah ha ha ha!

if you would of read the opening line,
. then you would have a damned clue what he is annoyed with. since your deeming my intellectual abilities on your lack of literal knowledge on verbal comprehension, I can duly dismiss your post, good luck in passing kindergarten this year.you should seek help for your anger issues, no offense but you just come across very angry.
Im sure Mourning will be no different so have fun
ur first is french..should i?
))))))))))))))))) prove it
btw my native isnt french..its german..but i speak french dayly
kinda stupid country

Define irony, fanboys posting in a thread against fanboism.
And even if you hate a game, why is it that you must threat with things like giving away your game, are we suppose to care??. And its ok with giving your opinion, but when you start making personals attacks and start repeating one thing over and over. I can tell right away that you dont have any arguments, or more properly said, you dont know squat.
Really if people are looking for unbiased opinions go to those sites instead of wasting time here, waiting until the fanbois get tired of posting...
fanniest thing french is latin vulgare
englich is kinda old chicken fugitive suxxon german with latin vulgare
brits is nation of fugitives suxxons who lived country coz hunnes
other fighting ..but lose...run avay is anglo- suxxon..learn ur history
Hmmm.
Just how I see it.

ign is a joke when it comes to game reviews. it gave Hz's like an 8.6, but i think they let just about anyone write a review. Gamespot is pretty good imo, but i think the player reviews are generally more accurate. Forums are better than both

thats the problem tho, you've never even played EQ2 or WoW, so how can you speak about those audiences?

Again, no facts here, just my opinion
- Zaxtor
Both the type of game and the type of players would disappoint them, just as they did me.

babylon5 fan? wow..i mean wow not WoW
http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/534914.asp the reviews of the most popular sites.
Maybe better than polls is the game playerbase...
its old..but i think is the best sci fi in tv
ok those farscape are cool too..but not for everyone...and its stoped ...heh...stupid ppl
Lineage! Lineage! Lineage 1!
- Zaxtor
lol britney spears is a musician?.
