It's not really trolling to state an opinion ya know....
Graphics style and the look of a game is a valid comment. I had to be dragged kicking and screaming into trying WoW because it looked soo cartoony to me...Aion is in many ways worse. Despite it apparently having a number of features I might like, I won't be trying it because I don't like the look of the game...and nothing is more basic to the enjoyment of a graphical mud.
I can agree with yout assessment. However, I do not feel the need to post it.
I like the art style but, to me ( and this shows my age ) too streefighter in combat styles. Now, this does not mean it is a bad game. Just means I will not be playing it.
Say hello, To the things you've left behind. They are more a part of your life now that you can't touch them.
Although this was talked over and over again already, I think it has more to do with the fact that it doesn't look enough like western fantasy us westerners are used to. As in, it's missing typical fantasy elements we have here and it trades them for kinda of mish-mash approach that eastern MMOs are so famous for. To me, it looks like it lacks identity... or I simply don't like it's, "fashion show" approach when it comes to visuals. Dunno.
Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing.
Does anyone think that "an european" sounds weird? I know its gramaticly correct, but say an european and then say a european....I swear the latter sounds more right, but that must just be my silly American dialect creeping in.

I agree a European sounds better, scratch what I said about alliteration I guess its called assonance which is kinda the same thing but you use vowels instead. LOL I don't ever remember learning about that, but I suck at grammar anyways.
I will be glad when beta starts up again next week. Then the trolls will not have anyone to feed them so they will find some other game to victimize. You would think they they would be able to think of something new. If all they have is "WOW with wings" and "asian anime" it speaks well of Aion. Personally i like the art style and could care less whether its well received i europe or north america. Any subs it picks up in eu and na will just be gravy as its already huge in asia.
You can make the characters look.. well ... as "european" as you wan't to ..
Besides the characters there's not much about the game that screams "THIS IS A MANGA CRAP GAME" Don't really get it tbh ..
p.s I have pre-purchased Aion and I do not regret it
Some are fans of realistic looking art style in their game. It is perfectly fine since it is a personal preference.
By realistic looking I mean they like their character model to have realistic looking skin mesh etc tec and also there the envrionment to look more life like. such as seeing gravel on the ground. Just think medievel times in movies and you will kinda get the feeling. Personally though, I am fine with either art style.
I personally don't think anyone can complain when a -> fantasy mmorpg <- is not "realistic" when it comes to world design, characters and so on .. If anyone does complain, they're kinda at the wrong site imo..
tbh I kinda like the graphics becaus it's nice, and doesen't require too much from my pc, but still manages to look absolutely stunning..

Well, they just like their graphics a certain way. Nothing wrong with that.
If you like eating your cereal with water, I wouldn't accuse you of eating it wrong. Well, maybe bad example, but hey, I am tired.
Ah, you pointed out was the cool part. Realistic design doesn't necessarily mean it requires higher graphic power to run. Graphic quality and graphic design have little to do with each other. The OP was correct in the fact that he called it an "art style" instead of saying graphics quality.
Dveloper choose the art style of the game, but graphic quality is a different field. Aion is basically idealist model design with high graphic equality, which some people consider it manga or anime-ish. They could have made Aion with realistic design using the cryengine anyways. However, NCsoft are much more used to this style probably because it is popular in asia.
I am so bored when waiting for Aion's beta event these days, too much forum browsing.
I don't entirely get why people say the graphics for this game are "anime-ish"
I mean maybe it's just me, but when I think anime graphics, I imagine cell shaded or cutesy crap like this:
compared to Aion or Lineage 2, I just don't see the anime part.
The difference I see graphically between games like EQ2 and WoW compared to Aion or Lineage 2, is that Aion and L2 are set in a much more magical land style compared to WoW/EQ, which is in a more medieval setting.

You posted some really bad examples. Aion art style is anime/manga based. It is just slightly differenet style.
More like Berserk, Ghost in a Shell or Ergo Proxy etc.

Then the counter argument is that the "Anime" style is WAY too broad to give as a reason to hate the graphical style. I like anime, not all kinds, some anime style I like while others look ugly to me.
Yup, tittle say it all, to much manga for an european player. Graphics is good, but style not please me to much.
Tittle?
must be English. (please don't confuse that with british, since the other 3 countries are fine) or French (no one likes the french, so that actually works better). You can say anything you want, i dislike the french for good reason... if you're french, tough.
i guess he expected to have an orgasm at the style of the game

I think people do just call anything with an eastern influence an "Anime" style though. It's pretty obvious that in an eastern game, guess what, characters are going to look Asian. Even then there are plenty of western options in making a character, it is pretty diverse.

Well yeah, there are some huge differences.
However, there really is no argument about whether Aion's art is not based on Anime/Manga style or not.
You have to keep in mind that many Westerners still live under the impressions that Anime/Manga is ment for kids.

I agree it can be disturbing to some point. But is just styles. Some people might love it like me other might not. And there is nothing wrong with that,

To each their own, I love Anime so im going to give it a try.
Well that is personal preference, and I am not going to judge you on it.
However, you understand it is an art style and not graphics equlity. Kudos to you.

I can't stand Anime and I even made a character called Animesux in CB, however, I have really enjoyed the game so far.
This is a sequence of characters intended to produce some profound mental effect, but it has failed.

What's wrong with eating cereal with water now?.. :b
But enough chit chat .. I feel your pain .. I'm also very tired of writing about aion instead of playing it ..
It's like being 11 years old and keep talking about your brand new bicycle thats so awesome, but has a flat tire.. useless

I agree with wolfenpride, but anime-ish game design can allso be characters with wild hair and waaaay too big weapons.. Kinda like Final Fantasy
Here is an example:

but tbh I just don't see the asian anime/manga style in aion ...
European 12 year old. Go back to Cartoon WoW.

Anime is a really broad thing to try and compare styles. I mean,
Serial Experiments Lain
Baccano!
Texhnolyze

Manga=comic
Anime=Animation
