Just curious now that the "Expansion" update has been out for over 2 weeks how the new features have been going.
The words that were posted on the site here:
www.darkfallonline.com/expansion/
They sounded pretty good. And, there was a lot of excitement from the players and fans of DarkFall when that site was announced. Strangely, there hasn't been much talk about most of that stuff since.
So, I'm curious as to how it's been playing out.
Were the features from the link above implemented into the game as well as described?
Have weather effects made a difference in strategic battles and their timing?
Have villages been a good way to find small-scale PvP on a consistent basis?
Is housing a worth-while investment?
Has the PvE re-vamp and re-balancing made a noticeable difference in PvE?
Has the Weapon and Armor re-balancing been noticeable?
How has the Nexus system changed the dynamics of sieging?
How about the random treasure chests? Have they encouraged players to get out of the cities and explore more?
Anyway, just looking for some feedback... as right before the "Expansion" came out there was a lot of excitement... but then I don't recall seeing much on how it played out after that.

My view is that if you didnt like the game before the expansion you will not like it after the expansion.
I dont think this or any expansion in any game would ever change the mind of someone who didnt like the base game but maybe there is an example of that not being the case.
I like the expansion, it gives me a bit more to do but I wouldnt have quit or stayed either way based on the expansion
ADDED: however, if you havent played the game and are only basing a choice to play the game from user posts you most likely should try it anyway. Becuase the community in game and the community around the followers of the game are often just retarded
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

Huh? What?
I have to ask, what in the name of Zeus does this post have to do with the topic?
To the OP, I would be interested as well to see a run down of the current features list.
DarkFall FAQ - Read then Question with Boldness
Hmm... o.k., thanks I guess.
I'm glad you liked the expansion, but you didn't really give much info on it.
I gave a few example questions to try and help out, but you could use your own examples about some specifics as well.
Village PvP... tried it? Good/Bad?
Housing... tried it? Good/Bad?
Weather... experienced it? Good/Bad?
Nexus... tried it? Good/Bad?
Weapon/Armor Rebalance... Good/Bad?
Monster/PvE Rebalance... Good/Bad?
You know... that kind of stuff. Thanks.
Well I can try to help you with the specific answer although I feel if your objective is to judge if you want to come back my suggestion is still the same, dont. ADDED: also I didnt like or dislike the expansion I was indifferent to it
Village PvP: I honestly dont know I dont have a village although I have seen them
Housing: I have always felt that housing was fairly silly in a game like this anyway but village system is a huge money maker for clans that own them. mega huge.
Weather: broken and removed at the momment
Nexus: I honestly do not even know what it is yet
general balance: what I HAVE noticed is that the spawn time between mob groups is better and allows me to actually loot just about everything (i dont use loot scripts). Balance, I never really cared a huge amount to watch it that closely to be honest.
Quests: I am doing the quests and it helps me work toward something while I am trying to get my archery skill up
So as you can see, as someone who plays a lot there really isnt enough here to justitfy people coming back if they left not liking the game. This is my stance.
I also have selfish personal reasons why I hope those that rage quit never come back but that is aside from the expansion being more of a patch as we all knew ahead of time

Village PvP - I see more enemies now before the expansion
Housing - I don't want to waste time getting a house because I am trying to build up my character for NA transfer
Weather - I only see fog in and around my mountain cave city there's no rain ever around here.

Nexus - Never seen one used but can be useful in infiltrating a city and teleport a raid party
Weapon/Armor Rebalance - Armor has more magic defense. Lower rank weapons are much more weaker while higher rank weapons are a bit stronger. Medium rank weapons like R40 is about the same.
Monster/PvE Rebalance - Lots of mobs soloable now and hit less damage
I would caution you that anything posted on the Offical DF site can be changed/deleted at the whims of Tasos, so I wouldn't count on the accuracy of that list.
Listed features in particular have had a way of changing or just being deleted, and that's a solid *fact*.
when weather first came out I had rain and it was terrrible. No sound, no build up just down pour, that said its removed and being worked out from my understanding. For me personally weather isnt a deal breaker but it would be nice if they get it working right

Thank-you that was a much more informative post.
I'll not comment one way or the other, as I'm not currently playing the game. I really was genuinely curious, as there was a lot of build-up and talk about it being an expansion or update... whatever.
It's good to hear some honest feedback about how it is actually playing out.
Thanks again.
Weather is nice fluff. I live in the West (between elf and mahirrim) and I see rain every so often. It hasn't affected any PVP battles I've been in to a major extent though. I don't own a house and am not interested in one. The mob nerf has has a dramatic effect on spontaneous PVP action, people are out killing mobs and roaming for chests a lot more for sure. The durability on dropped armor still sucks but at least PVE is worthwhile now. Overall I think it was a worthy expansion, especially since it was free.

I thought weather influenced the PvP, like field of vision and such. I thought it was supposed to be much more than "fluff".

Hmm...
Could either you are Sean comment on which one's comment is more up to date?
Sean says it's disabled currently to fix some bugs. You say it's nice and you see it raining every so often. Perhaps it's working on the West side of the continent and Sean is on the East side? Also is the sound working with the weather as well? I remember reading in that post that had the screenshot that there wasn't any sound with the rain. Is that part in now?
Thanks for the comments.

So far for me night and fog have a much bigger impact. I guess rain does cut down on vision a bit, I'm just saying I haven't been in a battle yet where it has played a significant factor, maybe someone else can comment.
Edit: Here is a YouNoob video of some rain in Darkfall, judge for yourself.

Do they have the wind part working as intended? I really liked that aspect of the original weather feature description.
Here is what they originally said weather would be like:
"Yes as a mater of fact we have an in game weather report for the players. Weather will be very important for planning attacks. Visibility, wind direction, and the use of cover will be some of the tools of great battles. Ships will have to use the wind, you can not sail into the wind much less a heavy storm. "
"In Darkfall weather will change and will affect players in a real way. Wind will affect sailing ships in naval warfare; it will affect player visibility and so play a strategic part in siege and raid planning. The direction of the wind will also affect how some NPC creatures detect your scent. The wind may also affect the trajectory of projectiles such as arrows. However, winds and weather will not affect the trajectory of spells.
Finally, Darkfall has been said to include a dynamic weather map that players can use to find local weather in different locations in the world. This weather will move across the map according to the prevailing winds."
Also, could you confirm if they have the rain with sound working? Sean had said they'd turned off rain, but didn't really say anything about sound.
Thanks.

Anyone heard if they have weather fixed yet?
No they haven't fixed weather.
I win!!! LOL@U
Ahh...
Thanks for the update.
Any word on when/if it is getting fixed?
From the words they had on that site for the "expansion" it sounded pretty nice.
Hmm... o.k., thanks I guess.

Village PvP... tried it? Good/Bad?

1. Village pvp is minimal at best on NA-1. They mostly consist of a player or a small group running around with siege hammers right after server up to lock them down for cash gains. Basically villages are nothing more then another resource farm. Yah pvp happens occasionally, but not to often and in most cases its just someone getting ganked , not actual fights over the village stone. Mechanics just dont work, to promote pvp, or are to flawed and easy to get around.
2. Housing, not sure about. I have heard that you can put houses up at villages, to give yourself a 2nd bind ability. however i dont know how much damage houses can take or how often they are destroyed. At the moment though, they seem to be very rare, and only obtained from chaos chests or certain high level mobs.
3. weather is not implimented i dont think
4. No use on nexus, still waiting to find one, and my guilds crafters are not really working on city aspects on NA -1 , like we did on EU-1.
5. If your talking about removing damage caps on weapons due to player skill, its much better. Even a new player who can either farm or find, or buy a rank 40 weapon can do decent damage. However spells still seem to be the driving factor in larger battles, of which i have seen very few. I forsee the same problems as Targeted AOEs can be spammed and there is no lock on them. Many people are focusing on end game aoe magic on NA-1 to utilize it in battles.
5. the PVe rebalance has worked somewhat, its pretty easy to kill most mobs now legit, just by using arrows or magic, or even melee depending on the mob. any team can pretty much duo any mob in the game excluding the big ones with aoe stomps or other group killing abilities. Even then its possible to kill them, just not profitible unless your bugging the mobs. Loot tables are still completely out of whack, some mobs are worth killing, some are not even worth looking at.
As far as seans reply, having played the EU version and the NA version, i wish NA had been what the game released as. Skill gains are not easy, but they are not endless grinds either. In 2 weeks i have gotten as far as i did on EU in 2 months. Sure the negative aspects are all still there, bloodwalls, afk macroing, tedious skillups for spell schools etc. Overall the patch improved some things , introduced more broken things like villages which just dont work, and did not impact other things. I think alot more people would still be playing if the current NA ruleset was what the game released with, but its far to late for that. Sadly NA server just doesnt have any large population base, and i dont really see it changing all that much to be honest.

Thanks for the fair analysis of the added content and the NA server gameplay.
It's good to hear that at least some of what Aventurine is doing seems to be improving the game. As you said though... it may be too little too late.
Thanks again.
