given how important politicing is to eve, can you not see the value of this?

Xennith, The majority of the posters on this Eve forum didn't get passed the trial.

The Sov mechanic changes alone will bring me out of my small MMO vacation.

Revamping Sov > Ambulation, most Real eve players would agree with that.

    Playing: EvE, Ryzom

    yup.

if my choice is to lounge around in a virtual bar occasionally sneaking a peek at virtual boobies or an improved mechanic for taking part in epic fleet battles that involve variously sized fleets looking at substantial outcomes for my friends then I know what I would rather see.

    boobs right?

the sov overhaul is a pretty major change for me, im a member of the ushra'khan alliance, which is a small non-sov holding alliance, due to our size and the size and blobbyness of our enemies holding sov for us at the moment is a bit of a non starter, but with the sov changes that may well change.

ambulation is hardly that exciting to be perfectly frank, considering the population density of eve only 4 stations are going to be worth walking in, jita 44, amarr emporer family, rens and ours hubs.

Still yet to hear whats wrong about it?

Another great example of Moore's Law. Give people access to that much space (developers and users alike) and they'll find uses for it that you can never imagine. "640K ought to be enough for anybody" - Bill Gates 1981

If nothing more it is wasted resources that could be spent better elsewhere...

As stated earlier, CCP uses the Agile method of development, which is a very efficient developing plan.  They don't focus resources on one thing at a time, but instead have a dozen or more projects going at once, each with quick developmental phases, which is why they add things in layers instead of all at once.  I really doubt it would make a difference whatsoever if the people working on COSMOS were working on anything else, as there are already several teams working on their own individual projects.

::sigh::  Do not want this Cosmo facebook thingy...don't care for it.   What about Ambulation?!!!!!!!!!!!  They started working on it years ago(yes years ago) and still nothing.   Whole games are made in the time it has taken for them to get Ambulation out.    Explain why?

I just can't resist, because: "CCP uses the Agile method of development, which is a very efficient developing plan"

I agree, Ambulation is taking along time, but they've mentioned they want it to feel massive like the actual size of the station.  I could definitely see that being a seperate game in itself.

I think Ambulation development is coinciding with World of Darkness development which opens it up for endless possibilities, but also slows it down for addition into EVE online.  Just be patient.  I think we will get a very well fleshed out avatar system and maybe World of Darkness not too long after.  I can't wait.

They said that this system is what would be used in World of Darkness avatar wise in terms of 3d models, animations, movement, etc.  This means that they are creating a full avatar based game, and pulling things from EVE into it, and from it back into EVE.  If this is the case and World of Darkness is slated for a 2011 ish release then it makes sense that they would get the system working and implemented into Ambulation and WoD before they launched it.  I think this has slowed it down since it is a part of something much bigger than Ambulation, BUT this could be awesome.  If they build a whole avatar based game around it imagine the possibilities of the same basic avatar system in EVE.

What aspect of game development do you feel the web team should be doing instead?

Yet, if NO team had been making this, there would be one more useful thing being made instead.

You repeat the same crap over and over without actualy thinking or reading.

The fact CCP might using some efficient process method does not make the quality of the process output.

With those methods when some stuff gets broken during development process, it takes months and years until it gets looked up and fixed again.

And honestly - custmer wise, there is no gain in releasing broken features.

Since you obviously know what projects CCP is working on.  Odds are, they have several unannounced projects going that you would probably also complain about.

Geez.. Some people here will look for any excuse to complain.

"They're not doing this to my standards.. they're not doing that fast enough.. they shouldn't even bother with this.." etc..  Who cares?  They ARE working on this, and they ARE working on likely a dozen or more other projects within their development team.  Of those, Ambulation is included.  The point is that them working on COSMOS isn't taking ANYTHING away from Ambulation, and if they weren't working on COSMOS, Ambulation still wouldn't be coming out any faster because that team would have a different project.  Same with the Sov. changes.. etc.. these things were going to happen when their team was finished with it.

The way people talk around here, you'd think they know better than CCP.  If that's the case, then by all means go make a game and focus on whatever feature you think is most important for -your- game.  People obviously see what I said about their development method with their smartass comments, but nobody is actually thinking about it because they're too busy thinking of how to complain.

  • ericbelserericbelser Member Posts: 783

It's not a matter of "knowing better than CCP"...it's a matter of just not making up excuses for them constantly.

Frankly as a customer I couldn't care less *what* method of development CCP uses as long as it seems to work. I (and apparently others) happen to think that for at least the past 18months or more, CCP has been doing really well talking about new features and not so hot on implementing anything. Right now, in this interview they are talking a lot about cool stuff that won't be in the game until the *THIRD* or later iteration of a feature they haven't even added yet.

I couldn't care less about ambulation, but even you should be able to acknowledge the ridiculous amount of time for which they have been talking about it without anything tangible and relate it to this article.

Talking about the cool things you will eventually be doing sometime down the road is nifty and all, but it means squat to anyone in the short term and isn't going to bring any players back or keep those hovering on the edge.

How about they fix the evepedia thing? I've asked time and time again along with many others that CCP please make it so we can find BPO makers on the site again. This feature used to work but now it is not.

It seems like everytime they add a new thing they take steps backward? Well at least in the case of the evepedia

I like the old database. Now, I have to use external sites for information CCP should be providing

This is just the way i see things. They keep adding new things when people want them to fix things properly first

Maybe they could work on some proper search engine? When you have to use one of the fan's site to browse your own forums is a bit of fail...

The forums are also getting an overhaul around the same time, so we can hope.

As for complaints about the content of the winter expansion, we know practically nothing about it at the moment. After 1.5 we should start getting some proper information, so I'm waiting until then before passing judgement of whether it might be good or not.
