Atari and Cryptic are proud to announce the official Preorder promotions from retailers across the United States. In addition to specific exclusive promotions for each retailer, all preorders (from any retailer) will receive guaranteed access to the Champions Online open beta, beginning August 17th. All purchases also include 30-days of free play and five Cryptic Points to be spent in-game.

GameStop

GameStop is offering access to the Early Start Program, giving customers who preorder a few days headstart in the game before its official launch on September 1st! In addition, all preorders include the exclusive Insectoid Airfoil costume piece and the Experimental Anti-Graviton Generator flight travel power at character creation.

Wal-Mart

Wal-Mart offers a Limited Edition Package with collectible lenticular cover, which also includes a zone map, iron-on decal, and ten additional Cryptic Points.

Best Buy

Best Buy offers access to the Early Start Program, along with an exclusive action figure in-game and a damage resistance item.

Amazon

Amazon preorders receive five additional Cryptic Points, and three exclusive costume pieces: Harlequin Headpiece, Black Knight Helmet, and Grenade Chest Strap.

    I have to applaud the fact that they're directly communicating something to their potential customers - even if it's all old information.

    And it being old information, one has to wonder if this isn't so much a "proud announcement" as it is a "pre-order sales haven't been good - don't forget about this".

    And seriously, they should have been "pleased", not "proud" to announce something like this. I know that seems nitpicky, but all public announcements like this should go through a PR vetting process and nitpicky is exactly what they are. Cos it's a bit sad if this is what they take pride in.

    Meanwhile their FAQ still has this for their payment model:

    Q: Will a monthly fee be required to play?

    A: We have not yet announced the pricing structure for the game.

    Shame, perhaps? :P

    BETA Access with Game Headstart: Gain access to the Champions Online BETA and then get a headstart of the actual game a week before anyone else! Code will be emailed before the BETA commences.



    In-Game Items:

    Neutronium Shoulder Generators (below left image) - Twin shoulder generators for power-armored heroes, which emit only trace amounts of toxic radiation.

    Insectoid Airfoil (below right image) - Flaps up to 90 times per second, and is ideal for the high-flying hero.

    Inborn Tenacity - Damage resistance to Physical Damage types and small chance of a 10's effect that will improve your damage resistance.
