www.youtube.com/watch Have you seen this video? It is interesting.
It definitely reminds me of Isaac Asimov's Robot Series, which I am on the last book. If you have not read a good sci fi or need a good summer read, look into Asimov.
Perhaps unrelated, is anyone excited about that District 9 movie? www.youtube.com/watch. It is produced by Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings), and I am just thrilled.

Today’s military robots are mostly used for dangerous but simple tasks such as bomb disposal, scouting and supplying squads in the battlefield. I still think we're very far from trusting robots with dangerous weapons, the main problem is ensuring they can recognise and distinguish people well enough. I certainly hope to be working on some of the first though, possibly in the not so distant future.
Cool video.
What about the Three Laws of Robotics:
Armed robots are going to be vital for the inevitable ZOMBIE WAR (great point about their ability to "recognize and distinguish people well enough" from zombies): www.youtube.com/watch
DEFENSIVE MEASURE
Some people will live in forts like these to fend off zombies in the coming war
OFFENSIVE MEASURE
Robots will lead the counterattacks in the zombie war*
*those who can afford their own robot protection have a great advantage to survive, especially during initial outbreaks
PHUCK YAEH!
seriously looks like it'll be good! XD
i've seen that first video before and it looks great. It reminds me exactly of the district 9 movie lol. And yes i'm also looking forward to the D9 movie, it looks great. It's nice to see something different and interesting with such realistic looking CGI.

That is if we have the resources for these things. This would require us to build them now in the hopes they'll be useful for tomorrow's undead swarm.
Also the resources to build such robots would be quite costly as opposed to using humans to fight with decent bite proof meshing/whatever else.
See if we don't act now the ideas for these will fade quickly as we simply won't have the brain trust to be able to make them. Let alone the power/machine crafting resources to do this. One must remember that every place that has a concentration of people will more than likely be the places these things could be made and by the time our government realizes that we have a full blown pandemic it will be too late.
The costs of such things far outweigh these things. Naturally robots wouldn't attract the undead, unfortunately all of this requires us to believe such things can/will/have happend. None of such we as a society will ever do. Saddly it will pan out to the levels of World War Z. Denial until it's eating your spouse, parent, child. Even then we'll claim mass murdering psychopaths.

If you guys like the robot movie and D-9 trailer, you will probably enjoy Alive in Joburg video.google.com/videoplay.
It is a short six minute or so film that appears very similar to D-9.

That was epic.
It really makes me think. What if aliens landed that weren't all god like but in fact poor refugee's that had been trying to find homes in old saucers for years, their ships falling apart.
Really made me think. It also outlined a big problem . What if they did connect with our electricity and water. Being as they are would they be leeching or doing what WE DO when we find new homes.
Tap wells,etc,etc.
We do not have the resources. The lack of resources is frightening, but the lack of planning for this inevitable war is absolutely and positively terrifying. And we do not know what form the virus will be in or what form the zombism will take; i.e., will they be slow and stupid, or will they be crazed and full of energy? We should have plans for each, or plans for a combination of them.
I think it could be a similar situation that we had in New Orleans. This is serious business. A sort-of planning and preparation that consists of a bucket of paint and a paintbrush with the word "HELP" on top of a roof. There is not plan to help YOU. People do not believe me when I tell them that. The system is not designed to go to little people's little houses and rescue them from floods or zombies. All the planning is individual. And it is crucial not to let anyone know of your plans because, then, when the shit hits the fan, guess whose house is going to be raided?
Whether it be rising water or rising undead, do not be these people
Be prepared!
It is a matter of practical survival skills, which so many are lacking in.
First things first,
I know it takes a lot of tax dollars to fund the gear we use (not just the USMC, but the other branches as well) -- however, that amount is nothing compared to what it would cost to fund these ...replacements!
We are highly trained (anyone else that has been through The Island knows that damn sure!) and for that video to talk about fatigue? Nine days on a two day supply of water and MRE's -- we can do that. Now. In the present.
I strongly doubt that these replacements will ever, and I mean EVER ...replace... us!
And, as was stated before, the robotics that we are currently using in combat are for bomb disposal, etc. Sure, there are some in development that can carry the M4A2, etc; but they still need a trained soldier for the RC end of it.
Science Fiction if you ask me. Not gonna happen.

What is more than amusing is the fact that people consider folks like us mad.
Nevermind the fact that zombism is a very real threat. The ability to create "zombies" is a old old skill used by voodun.
Yes it isn't the same as Ramero has built. However it's in our deepest core fear. Skeleton warriors (see>Argonaughts) from Ghouls rising out of the graves. These stories haunt mankind for some reason.
Also it should be noted for every 20 or so normal people who say "Wouldn't it be cool if zombies...." there is one rich or powerful person considering if not creating a way to have a "Wouldn't it be cool" moment. Planet terror is a good example though movie magic of how such a disease could take over.
Not to mention nanobots. Or the fact there are already viruses out there that do brain damage. Then we have the movies to make those of us who consider these things threats just a "laugh". A way to make us look mad. Of course we'll be the "last men on earth " of towns and such. Because we've prepared and come to realize through various riots/natural disasters/etc that people are in fact completely fk'ed up in crisis moments.
The government will be saving it self. The police will be gone really fast as they too want to survive and most likely have families.
The Military will be defending the governments pull outs, defenses, offenses. That leaves you JOE and JANE civilian to fend for yourself. This isn't just about zombies but ANY Crisis. Think about it.
Look at how riots happen and the effect of them during. Imagine that for 3 years. You and I both know man kind is a sick foul creature. Survival makes us more so.
Even if it's not the "undead" but a highly contagious pandemic would allow these infected souls/lack of souls into your home?
Hell no.

great video... i think this was probably used to get District 9 into production, since the setting, aliens, and everything looks so similar (also the same director). Wish we could see more movies like these.

What is mad is the lack of preparation people have undertaken for this inevitable war. The virus will seek to do one, and only one, thing - spread. Prophylactic measures will consist of people going to their local store buying:
When it says, "May Prevent Some Viral Infections," it is going to sell. People buy fear. The best marketing in the world is fear: fear of aging, fear of being lonely, fear of viral infections, etc.
Surgical masks, like hand sanitizers, will not prevent infection
Worse, information about the virus's spread will be scarce. Why create a panic? The plan to deal with the problem will be after the outbreaks, since the war is inevitable. And, if the news broke --avian flu, swine flu, zombie flu, whatever-- people would expect some sort of "Congressional response." So, we have the "Zombie Protection Act," which would simply eat up resources and undermine the planning needed to counter-attack, reorganize, and rebuild after the spread.
There is no plan for YOU. No helicopter is going to hover over your house and say, "Joe. Joe the Plumber. This is the Rescue Team for YOU. We know there are 350 million people in the same situation. But we are here for YOU. And, yes, we also got Joe the Sixpack safely rescued as well." YOU are not a valuable asset. YOU best be prepared!
