Why does Cryptic shot it's own foot when creating Champions Online?

Why does Cryptic make a game like Champion's Online when they are really shootong themselves in the foot for doing so?  Don't they know that everyone from CoH/CoV will come over to CO and they will have to close down CoX?

I know I know...... for Mo' Money.   But will they be able to sustain CoX after CO launches? Will anyone really want to play CoX anymore?

Just a question.

You do know that Cryptic has nothing to do with CoX any more, right?  They sold the rights to the game to NCSoft a few years ago.

I believe stealing subscriptions from CoX is exactly what Cryptic is trying to do with CO.

Indeed.. the problem is, I've seen very little that make CO better than CoX... other than being new and a bit different.. but better? I'm not so sure.

    Literally, in fact.

Champions Online developer Cryptic Studios has admitted to sending representatives into NCsoft's City of Heroes in order to recruit new players to their beta program.

This is a direct breach of CoH's EULA which restricts use of the program to "personal use", so NCSoft could theoretically sue Cryptic for breach of contract.

And even if they don't, how pathetic do you have to be to do this stuff?

Bill Roper would no doubt call it "thinking outside the box", where everyone else would see it as shifty and desperate.

I'm a big fan of CoH and this pretty much killed any chances that I would want to try CO. I'll just keep my CoH account, which isn't a negative since the devs there keep improving that game all the time.
