Land of the Dead looks great but I don't wanna have to grind 30 odd levels...

I just watched the trailer for Land of the Dead and it looks much better than all the content put together in the original game. I mean what let me down about the original game is it looked so generic and the PVE was just bad and didn't get me excited to explore. However that trailer looked great and I want to explore them lands and see them bosses.

However levels 1 - 30 are boring as hell and they'll be pretty much dead now anyways. The only fun I had in beta was starting on the servers which started from Tier 4 and let you get into the end game RVR straight away. The rest of the game before that just had dead RVR and boring generic lackluster PVE.

I'd just love for a server to be released that cuts out all the filler before hand and just starts from tier 4 onwards so I can have fun straight away instead of a boring grind that puts me off playing.

I've got a friend that plays on Dark Crag (Open RvR) that told me 2 nights ago that his server was populated well enough to have constant fighting most hours of the day in scenarios and open RvR in tiers 1 and 2. He said that he gets a char to level 30 than re-rolls so it sounds like you'd be able to get to your lvl 30 mark to go exploring if you make a char there.

Keep dreaming. The game is fun for levels 1-11, then it drops off sharply. As for tier 4? Well most of the time the tier 4 areas are empty, devoid of life. Nobody cares anymore since the game has devolved into a resource fest to open LotD. And those resources can be done with just quests, repeatable quests. All the pvp is now in LotD. And that gets boring as well, its only 1 area divided by a river. The rewards are over the top, the talismans are alos over the top. The game is failing fast.

Every week they debate the changes on balancing, and every week they change their minds on what to include as change. Non stop. What would change this game up? Lets see, 4 capital cities are missing which also includes the various quests, dungeons and other things available in them. The classes are completely messed up, and not much is gonna change with w/e patch they put forth next.

They should have put the LotD on the back burner, fixed the balance issues, re-added the other capital cities, disabled the fortress idea (as the whole premise is bugged), disabled city capture (more bugs), and after all of that they may have time left to release LotD.

Still, the game is very linear, each area is shared by both sides and the rvr lakes are pretty empty at tier 2-3.  People have reported many bugs with the game since beta, it basically came down to pressure from EA to release it before it was ready. Obviously the head of Mythic was against this and it cost him his job. With numbers dwindling, no new content planned, and DAoC failing, its only a matter of time.

Roll on Dark Crag or Iron Rock.  You can go from 1-30 easily by just doing scenarios, with open RVR and PVE questing in between queues if you like.

Ninjajucer, get a clue about the game before you bash it.  You have no idea what you are talking about

I'm on the EU version but all the servers seem to be dead where my original chars were on. I don't like scenarios I found them to be really boring cause it's not like WoW where you can dominate people with one class. Theres a clear losing team and a clear winning team and all that happens is you get swamped and die. Thats one thing i didn't like about the class design because I want to be so good I can take on 3 vs 1 but it never happens and thats why I found scenarios boring. Atleast in the open RVR you could just sit back and watch the crazyness of 600 people in one area like beta was like, though it crashed all the time.

I just wanna try the new content really without having to go through all the crap lol.

little confused here, can you start in in this area from scratch and if so, what class do you have to play?

I'm playing on Badlands.  Population is very far from being a problem and it's very evenly balanced (might tilt slightly towards Order in Tier4 atm) - if anything, there might be too many people in Tier 4 RvR these days.

I do almost zero questing while leveling.  It's probably the fastest method, but I don't enjoy it.  I do Scenarios and OpenRVR the vast majority of the time, then PQs when Scens/RvR aren't available, and I have a thoroughly enjoyable time.

If you're looking to get into LotD as soon as possible, you can go in at rank 25 and start doing the PQs, provided you have a competent group.  It boosts you up to rank 36?  37? as it's a PvP zone, which lets you be plenty effective.  Don't expect to be able to do lairs or Tomb Of The Vulture Lord at those levels though - they both require Wards.

I enjoy leveling (on populated servers) and getting to rank 25 doesn't take all that long.

    Hope that helps.

P.S.  Definitely join a guild.  WAR is not very fun solo (and by "not very fun", I mean "ugh").

P.P.S.  There's no way to start a character at anything other than level 1.

I have no idea if you can start in Land of the dead. I doubt it, though, from what others have said above. I'm talking about starting a character on the North American Server "Dark Crag". My friend that plays on it says there are enough people playing that there is always fighting going on in scenarios and in open world pvp. Enough fighting to the effect that you can level at a good pace up to level 30 (which from what John was saying is the level you need to get into Land of the Dead).

Course, I don't have first hand experience. I played WAR from a month or two, got into my late 30s and then quit. Scenario running is boring to me and there was little open RvR at the time in the first two tiers. There was hardly anything at all in tiers 3 & 4.

I was referring to the server "Badlands", not the zone :)

P.S.  Definitely craptons of Open RvR in Tier 1/4, and a good amount in Tier 2/3.

got there and it's a bore fest. Wow! I am totally underwhelmed. 3 People playing a PQ? WTF!? Good night nurse, put a fork in it, it's over!

  • John.A.ZoidJohn.A.Zoid Member Posts: 1,531

I started a new character and got to level 5 and I'm bored lol. The zones are so generic and uninteresting and put on top of that theres noone around on any of the 3 starter areas. I just think to myself that I've done all this in WoW and WoW does everything better from the lore to the classes and the content and atleats it has one or two people around. I just can't be bothered to go through 30 levels of being bored to get to the gameplay I want to experience. I did it with WoW only for battlegrounds to ruin the end game and make me quit.

I just don't understand why they don't delete elves and the Orc/Dawrf areas cause noones ever in them, they just spread out the population and make the game feel broken. Then delete all the Tiers before 4 and just have it as a 10 level RVR game and take Scenarios out of the game cause they suck and thin out the population even more.

Then I would want to play but right now Tiers 1 - 3 are just too boring and empty.

T1 and 2 are pretty good and I enjoy them. 3 does suck but you only have to be 25 to hit LotD.

Hold on Snow Leopard, imma let you finish, but Windows had one of the best operating systems of all time.

If the Powerball lottery was like Lotro, nobody would win for 2 years, and then everyone in Nebraska would win on the same day.
And then Nebraska would get nerfed.-pinkwood lotro fourms

LotD looks and  reminds me of the gates of AQ in WoW. It even has resoruce collecting to open it? WHat like bandages and herbs and stuff? LOL
