I would Hightly suggest getting a MSI based board... like MSI, Acer or Cyberpower rebuilds or an Asus board.
Gateway, Dell, HP etc etc are overpriced on a hacked down system.

I agree.. If he can find any MSI/Acer/Asus laptop with a nvidia/ati GPU in it he should get a decent deal. The prices on the Gateway FX 7807u and 7805u have been fairly good too especially when they had 1900x1200 screens for $1150.
not bad for that price, the cpu is a bit older (slow buss) but unless you are going to be running some high end games, and expecting "high" settings then.. well you know.

I bought a computer from www.ibuypower.com Great computers if you like the ability to go above average. dell has inspirion 15's for 400-500. My wife is buying the 15 with performance upgrades in ram and video card and processor decent machine for $660
The laptop you linked from tigerdirect looks pretty good XanthosX. I dunno about refurbished stuff myself but if they guarantee it then they guarantee it
I didn't plan on buying anything with out a warranty, i'm am looking for something in the 500-600 USD range, I'm only 15 i can't afford anything much higher.

Some XPS dell laptop would do it. Make sure you get the Complete Care insurance on it. You will not be sorry.
