I am bored out of my pants with MMOs now :/

YunbeiYunbei Member Posts: 898

Sheesh, where have the days gone by. I used to be quite happy with EQ, EQ2 and SWG for long, but played that enough by now. (Surprise... after all the time.) WOW never was my pair of shoes, but I tried almost everything else. AoC & WAR were yawnfests for me (re-tried WAR recently and regretted it), VG & CoX kept me a while, but where to limited all in all. Oh and LOTRO. I loved it, played to max level and... feel zero inclination to play it again.

So what now? I am sort of a loss. I tried some trials, EVE, DAOC - I dunno what all. But tbh, I found every single bit boring as night. Keep hoping for Aion and CO atm. Not so much, but a bit. I only see SWTOR as something really interesting, tho it sure is far away. I dunno if I demand too much, heh, but its all same old same old now.

Gawd... am I supposed to go back to single player games? ><  Or has the genre gone... stale?

Bboooring.

You ain't the only one, feel the same here.

For now im not playing an mmo, spend my day on 4chan, trolling omegle, and whining about the lack of good mmo's here.

    Start wearing a skirt then.

Give FFXI a try if you enjoy PvE, it is old and FFXIV is in development already.

I have to warn you though the learning curve is like steep.  Almost a 90 degree angle, so bring your mountain climbing gear if you decide to try.  I think they have trials, but not sure anymore.

If you just want a quick taste of a mmo though, don't play FFXI.

I did the same post as the OP a few weeks ago. I've been playing some games like CoD etc, I also got WAR going again and I dont mind playing the odd hour of that, but I just cannot get into any of the titles out there atm.

News like this doesnt inspire my confidence for the future either.

"When asked if it was safe to assume that all future SOE titles would be on a console, Smedley replied with a firm “Yes.” While an interesting statement on its own, it wasn’t until Smedley said that the popular MMO Everquest had “not seen its last game” that I got excited about the prospect of SOE doing console titles."

EQ3 possibility great news, the fact it maybe played on the Ps3!!!!! oh god lets hope not. I can only imagine the crap that will come from a multiplatform mmorpg and their will be even more 13 yr olds playing it than WoW!

I think anyone who is bored of traditional MMOs should try DDO: Eberron Unlimited when it re-release on 6th August. Not a perfect game but the dungeons, the combat and the character custimization are the best Ive ever seen in any MMO. And since its going to be free2play you have nothing to loose. If you enjoy dungeon crawling and active fast paced combat and want a more challenging game, then its maybe for you.

    If WoW = The Beatles
    and WAR = Led Zeppelin
    Then LotrO = Pink Floyd

Now Playing: LotRO:MoM Waiting for: Earthrise, The Warhammer 40k mmo
Collecting dust on my shelf: Ultima Online, EverQuest, Dark Age of Camelot, Shadowbane, Lineage II, SWG, EQ2, D&D Online, Vanguard:SoH, Tabula Rasa, PoTBS, AoC, WAR

You've obviously played them too much. Find something else to do.

You're probably bored of games in general. I'm not a hardcore gamer, so this happens to me a lot. I tend to pick up where I left off after a few weeks or so.

I'm quite looking forward to FFXIV though.

One thing I did when I got really bored with the genre was go "old school". I went to pogo.com and played euchre. When that got old I found myself wanting to play something with more depth and came back to mmorpg.com to find something.

On my part I discovered an old mmo that is getting a big overhaul at the moment, it is called "Istaria". It is nice if for no other reason than it is a p2p mmo but you can essentially play it free. You can get a sort of unlimited demo account. I like it because I can walk away and come back at my choosing, no time constraints. You can only play a human and can't can't own land but you have no time constraints to force you to make a financial commitment until you're really sure. Something to think about since you can sign up, install, and then pretty much walk away and play the "demo account" at your leisure/convenience. Its a good game to boot so (I think) it is worth looking into if you are bored.

Good luck and I hope you find what you are looking for :)

    edited for spellcheck. doh

I dont think the genres stale. Theres plenty of tripple A mmos in development. Theres tons of F2P  mmos opening up daily it seems sometimes. Are they great? Will they be Genre Impacting titles? who knows. But the genre, the genre is anything but stale.

Now stop being stubborn and play wow till aion comes out. It is fun. Trust Me..........mwauaha

i hear you... i havent felt bound to a mmorpg for real since i played DAOC, i really miss the time i spend at the glory days of that game..

Now i find myself wandering between diffrent single player games, i was so dissapointed when i entered Hyboria in AoC, and i  had even higher hopes for WAR, only thing i enjoy in WAR is Scenarios from 1-11 everything above 21 for me is pointless, and recuires absolutly no skill from the player...

I have re-activated my WoW account about 6 times in the last 3 years, it's the only mmorpg i sworn never to play, but it catches me for small period of time anyway..

I now have some hopes for AION... But im not really wanting to get high hopes for any game anymore :) , its to difficult to live up the the expectations now days i guess.

Its true about the expectations, alot of us who played DAOC had very high expectations of Mythic and WAR. tbh I still think DAOC is the better game and I prefer the graphics too.

i am in the same boat as you, unfortunately. only worse...i dont want to play aion or champions online. the only mmo's that look even decent to me, mortal online, swtor, and FFXIV. none of which will be out for quite some time. (and mortal online is very iffy, it may not be worth the money)

EDIT: been playing some of my single player games that were sitting around collecting dust, after warhammer online left a bad taste in my mouth. warhammer 40k DOW2, Fallout 3, COH: TOV, Assassin's Creed...etc. Quite a few good single player games will be coming out soon, also. i am really looking forward to Dragon Age: Origins for starters.

CoD 4.2 comes out in Nov, Battlefield 1943 in september. Both should be good shooters if your fans of FPS'.

I would play Vanguard if there was people on the PVP server, but it's awful lonely.

Too bad the development of that game died.. Most people saw there was no future for the game and they left. :(

Rest followed soon because of the emptiness.

SoE killed it as they released it way before it was anywhere near ready.

Been there some time now OP, just like you tried many other MMORPG's, but most of them towards the type of playstyle I have with MMORPG's never satisfied me as to me most current MMORPG are very limited and sorry the ones that arn't limited either don't appeal to me with their artstyle or things like RMT that will ofset me from a game aswell.

For now 1404 aka Dawn of Discovery has got me hooked, playing as I just discovered this game called Zeno Clash which for now is pretty cool for a indie gamecompany and think from what I read ZC2 will be much better and seem to focus on the things that I feel are sort of missing with the first ZC.

I really want a MMORPG that is much more then only combat, I know I am a minority gamer in HOW I play MMORPG, but please the majority seems to already have more then enough choices.

And again I need to say sorry because I know of a few upcomming MMO that are more true to the MMORPG genre in my personal opinion but if people like me are gamers for about 30+ years atleast for me as I said before I want my MMORPG to be 50/50 on graphics and gameplay, I do not want a MMORPG that looks awesome but has terrible and limited gameplay, also do not want a MMORPG that has awesome gameplay and terrible graphics, again due to my personal experiance I just want more out of my MMORPG.

SW:ToR catches my eye 'cause it's Star Wars and it's Bioware, even if it was a single player RPG I'd play it and probably play through each class at least once.

    FFXIV looks promising.

Jumpgate could be my next game... I love space sim shooters... I still have the original X-Wing on floppy somewhere...

I just hope they don't F it up like JTL did in SWG by making Tie Fighters take like 123 shots to kill....

    Your opinion is immaterial.

MMO stale periods happen every other year or so, usually in between large releases and expansions to big games.  But due to the lackluster releases these past few years, with games overpromising and under delivering as well as games simply not up to expection, this time the stale period is lasting longer.   I know lots of people are burning out on MMO's lately and have been for quite awhile.  Many are playing these games just to pass time, kinda going through the gestures waiting for something exciting to come up.

Not a whole lot you can do if you are burned out.  Try some single player games or things away from computers, it should help and can get you that craving back sometimes.  It's like food, you get tired of eating the same things everyday, so you switch things up and one day down the road  you get that craving for something specific again.
