I saw the name ryzom many times but never thought of rly playing it.

but now cus im bored of evri RELEASED mmorpg on planet i thought i just play a mmorpg i would never rly try to play.

now after some reading about it watching movies and screenshots i think this is a great game to play better then all the games that got released in 2008/2009 better then Wow.

But my question is when i go download page there stand download free trial.

after my free trial is gone i have to buy the cd? or download the full game?    or is what im downloading now already the full game and only need to pay a monthly fee after free trial is over?  i find www.ryzom.com rly lacking of information

I recommend you wait til they launch a fresh server start because crafting is a big part of Ryzom, and since it's a small well established community, there is no market for a new player to trade in. Without a fresh server start the playerbase has shrunk over time so they need to do it soon or Ryzom will die off.

What you have downloaded is already the full game and you only need to pay a monthly fee after free trial is over.

And don't listen to RedwoodSap, there is no plan of a new server or fresh server start in a near (or longer) future.

    1. you download the full client so you do not have to buy it after your trial is over.
    2. there is just the subscription fee you have to pay.

They launched a new server before, it made no difference at all and eventually got merged back into the other servers. Ryzom doesn't need a new server. As for crafters, there is always a need for player crafted goods since NPC items blow and gear can't be repared. More crafters are always welcomed and sort after.

Okay, see you in 2015 then.

Man, you´re the funniest troll I´ve ever encountered. *LOL*

First the old servers should be filled, don´t you think?

If every new player would wait for a new server to open, there´d never be one.

And if every game out there would open a new server, once the communities reach a certain established level of comfort and organization, then there´d be about 10 billion servers in the world, each with its small self contained community that would consist of about 200 players or so. Certainly no larger than any small villages population.

And if every Game out there would really  follow your guidelines, then I wonder how come in LotRo and especially in WoW, so many Newbes join established servers?

Ah, sorry, they don´t have your expertise. Certainly that must be the problem.

    Man, you´re hilarious!

Interesting concept.  What would the point be of playing a game if everytime a new person started, the whole server got wiped?

The only time you can guarantee to have the highest ranking toon is if you start your character right on day one.

That would never work for Ryzom. On Atys the more advanced players help the younger ones.

I am sorry that you never experienced this.

Don't bother answering to Redwoodsap. Nor reading his posts, really. He's just a troll that keeps repeating the same thing over and over... and over again, everytime he gets a chance. It's not the first time he does it. And he will never understand that it won't work that way, no matter how many times he repeats it.

And I'll repeat the same thing once again. Attempting to discourage new people from trying the game because the community is too small or "too established" will NOT solve any problem, thus it is a very stupid thing to do. Unless your intention is to make the game die again, of course.

For some reason silly people against the concept of a fresh server start to bring new players into Ryzom always introduce a red herring by suggesting server wipes would be the only way to accomplish this, which is false.

Ryzom has more than one server. Playerbase is very very small on all servers. Combine existing servers playerbases thus opening up an existing server for fesh start. No transfers to new server allowed, must reroll and start anew. Advertise heavily to attract new players with first 30 days free so they can get their feet wet and hopefully get hooked.

Win. Win. Win. Except for some of the short sighted established players who want to dominate the existing playerbase and see competition from a new server with new players and crafters as jeopardizing their status.

Anyone who thinks Ryzom has any chance of growing  without a fresh server start is naive.

Oddly, as a new player I've never felt that Ryzom was about "dominating the existing player base"..... it seems more teamwork-centric to me.

Besides which, alienating the old guard would be a great method of killing the game for good..... I'd certainly not take kindly to losing a character I worked years on.

great idea, let's put the french server, the german server and the international server together...

yeah, that won't pose any problems, at all... not because of differently oriented players in each server (germans are more pvp oriented, french are more RP oriented, international somewhere in the middle), and not because of established alliances between guilds and their outposts, which would get completely messed up. Nobody would play on the merged server, and many would not like to start all over again... Now finally let's have every event ran in all 3 "official" ryzom languages, with the event character saying everything 3 times (once per language) and we're good to go.

I'm not against a fresh server but I'm against a player that don't play a game where, maybe, can get some fun, just because he think with a fresh server he can rule the world, otherwise he can't.

There are many people that joined Ryzom very late, even just in the last year, and they are now well known and respected players and, something so important for you, they are absolutely competitive.

Did you forgot why people play games? I remember you: to have fun.

Try to play the game, see if you like it, and play it if you find it fun. That's all.

What was I thinking? French and German gamers on the same server? That's sacrilegious!

We all know French and Germans hate each other right?

And an international server with French and German players included? Wouldn't that make it um, international?

    We can't have that!

Way to stereotype players by country of origin too. Germans more PvP oriented and French more RP oriented? LOL

Most MMOs don't offer separate language servers, they mostly use the universal language of English without any problems and guess what, most Europeans speak English. Only Americans seem to be limited to speaking their native tongue because they are so arrogant they can't be bothered with learning other languages.

Veterans don't need to reroll, they can happily play on an established server with a healthier playerbase because of the veteran transfers and any new players still have the option to start on the established server but most won't and that's what all this Angst is about. Like I said, the vets want to maintain control.

The writing is on the wall people, either grow or die, and you won't grow without a fresh server start.

Trolling is so ugly. Especially when the troll is so cocksure that their opinion is fact.

Throw in a healthy dose of sarcasm, a bit of mocking everyone who disagrees with them, and a completely unrelated-to-anything-in-the-thread jab at Americans, and you've got yourself a near perfect troll post specimen. All it needed was a bit more LOL and a maybe some name-calling and I would've given it a 10.

I'm french and I write a quite understandable english.

But I'm completly unable to translate my usual roleplay in english !

English langage for us is good for a game without roleplay because there is no need to use elaborate sentences.

But in Aniro, the level of french langage used is far superior than in a lot of others MMO.

For instance : "Si la lutte anti kitin était une guerre, on pourrait traiter de futiles escamourches les quelques initiatives isolées qui ont lieu en ce moment." I'am unable to translate it correctly into a nice english sentence...

For french people, a Ryzom server without a good roleplay is a dead server and we are unable to give a good roleplay in english.

It's certainly the same for german peoples.

woopie, redwoodsap, you're blaming me for YOU not understanding. I'm not stereotyping anyone, i'm stating FACTS.

The french server IS more RP oriented, i'm not saying french people in general are, but the french ryzom server IS.

The german server IS more PvP oriented, i'm not saying german people in general are, but the german ryzom server IS.

I'm sure that, because ryzom offers different language servers, there are also quite a few people on the french and german servers not as superb at english as you seem to claim everyone is, or at least seem to want everyone to be. My native tongue is dutch, and i know quite a few people (in real life) who would prefer to play in their own language, or have problems writing english.

It has not been tried by the current owners. The previous owners were the problem so why would anyone sign up then.

They also didn't market a fresh server start. In order for it to be successful you need to build up hype and advertise, invite MMOG bloggers and websites to test the game and rereview it and get the word out.
