A Few Questions Before I Buy

JakeSimJakeSim Member RarePosts: 884

Before I play this game I have a few questions I hope some people can answer.

First off, I believe I still have my old EU account, will I be able to transfer that to the American servers, if so, how?

Which servers have a higher population?

If I were to play on the EU servers, is there bad latency? I live in America :)

Is there still ques when joining the game?

Do a lot of people actually play this game?

What kind of skills are there in the game?

Last time I played, which was around when it first came out, I logged in, made my character, had no idea what to do, the game didn't exactly tell you to do anything specifically, what do you do when you first login, or has it changed?

Please come check out my stream. All the love is appreciated!

There are also other "certain restrictions" which have been unmentioned by Tasos and Aventurine what they are.

There are quite a few threads on the official boards asking them to clarify what those restricitons are, but so far they have fallen on deaf ears.

Some have speculated that skills and/or spells make be capped at a certain level.  With Tasos not being forth-coming on what the "other restrictions" are it is really open to speculation.

The fee for transfering might not be as small as what some are speculating either.  The fee for transfering has not been announced.  Only that there will be a fee.

Not sure if you know, but tasos answered like 5 questions from the player base saying, They will only nerf EU characters transfereing IF NA are behind, considering some people have 70 earth in NA and its been what like 2 weeks not even release? (because NA skill gains are faster, not sure about attributes though), so the most they will nerf is stats but that wont get nerfed that bad, So maybe if you have like 100's in like more than 1 stat you might get to 75 at best.

It wont be that bad, I expect people to have 1-2 masterys of melee and archery to 100 and 1-2 elementals by the time 3 months is up.

Someday, "Soon" [TM] and you will pay some sort of fee.
Which servers have a higher population?
AV does not publish population figures, and its two "servers", one in EU, one in NA.
If I were to play on the EU servers, is there bad latency? I live in America :)
I've seen folks post who  live in FLA who claim to have 130 ping times, which doesn't sound bad, but have also read reports of 300+.  Your results may vary.
Is there still ques when joining the game?
Not that anyones mentioned recently, think that's been mostly resolved.
Do a lot of people actually play this game?
I don't play, you'll have to get the opinion of those who do.  But I have to ask, define 'a lot'.  I'm thinking you won't have a problem finding someone to stomp you. (Er, I mean, for you to stomp on.)
What kind of skills are there in the game?
Legend has it there's 500+ skills, (or will be one day) though some folks feel many are retreads of each other.  No doubt, more than you can quickly train anytime soon. Better plan on macroing, apparently lots of other folks do.
Last time I played, which was around when it first came out, I logged in, made my character, had no idea what to do, the game didn't exactly tell you to do anything specifically, what do you do when you first login, or has it changed?
Are you sure you really are Darkfall material?  (I'm not, btw)  This game still won't hold your hand, and there will be lots of folks there willing to "school" you in the brutal ways of FFA PVP.  If you really plan on playing, recommend you hook up quickly with a clan who can show you the ropes or your experience might not be all that pleasant.

If you already own it, no reason not to go back and give it another try, I've read that things are much improved.

Yeah, I read that Q & A post (not on the official forums though).

They basically left it wide open.  There are no guarantees what your character will be able to transfer over, as far as stats and skills are concerned.

    • We know they will not get to take any items.
    • We know it will be AT LEAST 3 months.  How much longer?   Unknown.
    • We know there will be a fee... How much?  Unknown.
    • We know there may be other restrictions as well.  Unknown what those will be.

Will they keep their same name?   Unknown.

Will everyone who wants to transfer be able to?  Unknown.

Will NA players on EU be given first preference?  Unknown.

Just an FYI... there were a lot of people saying exactly what you were saying when NA players first started playing on the EU-1 server.  If nothing else, players should have learned by now... assume nothing!

    Transfers  <--clicky

"Biggest question on everyone's plate is the transfer restrictions, can you comment on those?"

" We said that we would offer character transfers to the N. American players 3 months after the launch of the server to allow N. American server characters to catch up to their EU counterparts. The reason we haven't announced more on restrictions is because we don't know yet if there will be any needed. We are monitoring the situation on both servers. We obviously don't want the N. American server to become unbalanced. So far it seems that there's no reason for concern since our re-balancing efforts seem to be paying off and we expect that the N. American server will be fine. However we reserve the right to make adjustments if they're absolutely necessary." -Tasos

@ Izure: "...because NA skill gains are faster..."

So, you are saying that Aventurine upped the skill gain on the NA server only? I guess I missed that somewhere.

First, I would see if you can even re-activate. I have read a few posts by people claiming to run into this problem.

Which servers have a higher population?
Only Aventurine can answer this question. And they aren't talking.

If I were to play on the EU servers, is there bad latency? I live in America :)
You will have to check this yourself. I suggest going to Speedtest.net and  checking.

Run a test to Athens, then one to San Diego/Los Angeles.

Is there still ques when joining the game?
As far as I know, no.

Do a lot of people actually play this game?
Like stated earlier, depends on what you consider a lot to be. Also, see the answer to your second question.

What kind of skills are there in the game?
As far as I know, there is no official listing.

I do believe that there is a fan site that may have a listing.

Last time I played, which was around when it first came out, I logged in, made my character, had no idea what to do, the game didn't exactly tell you to do anything specifically, what do you do when you first login, or has it changed?
There is a short, rather simplified tutorial available.

You would think that a downloadable game manual would be available, but I have yet to find one.

I'm not really sure if this is a poster making up the restrictions or an unofficial quote:

We have been extremely pleased with the smooth and successful launch of NA1. Many players are keen to join the battle for NA1 and we are now in a position to reveal more details around the transfer process. A "Transfer" button will soon appear on the subscription page of the account management site. Players wishing to transfer their character from EU1 to NA1 will simply need to press the transfer button and follow the instructions provided. More information will follow in the coming days and key points have been given below:

    Character appearance will be maintained

Character names will remain unchanged for the vast majority of transferring players. Transferring characters with a duplicate name will have 'EU' appended to their surname.

To maintain fairness and balance on NA1, advanced transferring characters will receive minor adjustments:

    - Player stats will be capped at 45

    - Weapon and archery skills will remain untouched. Weapon and archery mastery skills will be removed.

    - Lesser and Greater magic skills will not change. Advanced magic skills will be removed.

    - Other advanced end game skills (such as Ignore Pain, Fitness, Endurance, Archmage) will be removed.

    - Crafting skills will not change. Crafting mastery skills will be removed.

    * The information above has been provided in lieu of any real information from Aventurine SA. It's not hard to post how the transferrs are going to be handled. Please tell us the real story AV

That is a made up scenario trying to elicit some kind of response from Aventurine.

All it managed to get, was a ban from Forumfall for the original poster.
