well...everyone is picking the asmodains, so I'm going to go with the Elyos, that way it should balance the game
leader of "The Archangels." A friendly guild looking to dominate the abyss, strike fear into the Asmodians, and lend a helping hand to all those native to Elysia.
I voted Asmodian but it feels like a lose lose situation. I do not want to repeat my mistake of ending up being in a faction full of kids and idiots (Alliance) which always want to play the good guys, which i thought would be the Elyos. Turns out the Asmodians are the good guys but how many people will actually check the lore to figure that one out? Maybe this won't be like WoW, and the communities of both factions will be pretty balanced and the pvp won't be sided.
I don't think the composition of the alliance population in WoW was because they were the good guys. It was more because alliance had the "pretty" races, which tends to draw the youngins and the more superficial folks. This was further supported by the population shift to horde as soon as blood elves were added.
This will not be the case in Aion simply because both races have the potential to be good looking. It will come down to people who seldom read the backstory rolling asmodian because they want to be evil, not knowing that the bad guys are actually elyos. This is not to say that all the kiddies will go asmodian. Ultimately both factions will have their fair share of retards of course, and it will come down to which type of retard you find more tolerable: anime nutjobs or the emo/twilight crowd. The main factor for me will be population balance, and so far every race poll seems to lean towards asmodians, hence I'll probably roll elyos.
No1 should base the popularity off races through the Beta Events, simply by the fact that ppl like me, and couple other thousands played the 1st closed beta, and it was only elyos beta, obviously if ur testing the game u would like to carry on with the higher character u have to see more off the game.
Having said that, I believe that with the western culture we tend to go for the evil said, or evil looks(also previous experiences on realm mmos), but time will tell.
