Hi.
Don't need to read if you think audio in Aion is perfect. This is just some random western guys opinion and taste of different things.
When watching the videos I like what i see but not so much what I hear. Asian style, generally in everything, is make especially females's voices sound like they are all in their preteen of age or if lucky they might be around 18? Soundeffects are also usually too candy for my taste. On the other hand, what I LIKE very much is their animation / movement style. Movielike moves, which has nothing to do with real life, are awesome to watch and very powerfull looking. Really feels like my hero is hurting that bastard.
Now, western style is kind of opposite to that. Great audio with all areas (voices, ambient etc.) usually but animations are a bit lame and seems like I'm not hurting anyone with my sword which I can't even swing properly. Well don't wanna generalize but that's kind of how it is in many cases compared to asian versions. I know these are all just matter of taste and what we have got used to.
I'm sure that I'll buy Aion but how annoying are those voices and soundeffects and do they blend nicely to the gameworld so I might not even pay attention to them after all?
Let's just say I drink beer and have a beard (= manly man) so I don't like little girls when it's all about war and killing If that helps someone to understand what I'm saying...
Cheers,
Jorges

Release will have Western/English voice acting. I have no idea what it will sound like, though. However, the options have a toggle to allow you to disable the VA.
Hey,
thanks for the great news. Well if they don't do it right it's nice to know that you can atleast disable VA if it keeps haunting. No offence to the people who likes voice acting as it is now ofcourse.
Thanks,
Jorges
yea you can toggle it off in options...i just think the female characters voice overs when they are casting a spell is annoying lol
English voice actiong. ~Hide in a corner and shivers.~
Well, hope they did a good job with it, other wise I'll have to petition NCsoft to add the option of Japanese or even Korean voice acting. I know English voice acting can be good too sometimes, but good + terrible at best only even it out in the long run.
~Prays this is one of those times where it turns out to be good~
IMO, voice acting is a turn off. I can't stand to hear the same thing each time me or someone else casts a spell. If they had an array of different speeches for their spells it would be more tolerable. I'm not saying voice acting is bad but keep it at a minimum. Such as every 4-5 casts have a voice act.
Could it be worse than bearded beer drinking voices from the west? no offense.
Yes it can... that is why I am worried. LOL.
I think English voice overs would be great if it's done right. Some of yall been stuck on asian for too long. Voice overs in the US console games are pretty good.

RISING DRAGOON ~AION US ONLINE LEGION for Elyos
lol, I never thought about it like you just mentioned it. Do we really need to have the grunts and giggles of a seemingly juvenile girl? Can we please have the more mature female actor sounds that also appear in anime? heh
so...
You are getting west voices + the option to flat out turn off the voices. Except for the occasional battle grunt when swinging, ect.
Yeah, it is a bit over the top (though that's about what I expected from a game like this). I didn't really have a problem with the male voices though. I'll be making mostly male characters in this game anyway. Hopefully the NA voice acting is decent.
Something I noticed though during the beta event: When I first logged in to my character for the day, he'd do the voice acting for each cast, but after awhile (maybe 20 or 30 casts of the same spell) he'd stop and just cast. I don't know if it was some kind of audio glitch or if it was intended to reduce the annoyance factor.
I'm totally loving how runes and other cool spell effects pop up while casting spells, it looks cooler than any other mmo I've seen to date, so that gives it a very well deserved 10/10 on the visual scale for me, which it's hard as heck to get a 10 from me in any category. the sound...well I can't really rate that til i get to play in the next beta, due to time lag in the videos I watched, but if it's all orchestrated...well then it will prolly get an 8 or 9 from me if it's good, cause I love orchestrated OSTs. again I can't rate the voiceovers til I play the english beta, so I hope I'm not dissapointed.

I wish they would give us a list of the voice actors (they have some famous actors for the Japanese client). I just would like too see it there well known actors for the NA/EU or not.
Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...
imo should give us the option to choose to use the original voices as well
I LOVE it when I can pick the Japanese option on my console games...but alas...I have yet to see a single game have an in-game option for doing that...and as far as I know, changing the sound relays in the game coding goes against the ToS...so I'm not even going to look into something that could get me banned like that.

Yeah, because men shouldn't look and sound like men, but like 12 year old boys.
The voices in the game are extremely irritating: For most of the male voices you get the sound of some kind of Thai tranny crossed with a kung fu star and for the female voices it's like something between a mouse and a powerpuff girl.
The actual appearance customization is great though: You can give your female character a shapely body and big tits and your male character some facial hair, although there is no option for chest hair at the moment.
This is a sequence of characters intended to produce some profound mental effect, but it has failed.
well after that statement Moo, the chances of my main being male went from 90% to 100%...but I still might have my alt be a female.

In the CB version, the voice selection doesn't work. I hope they add a patch or something so you can preview the male voices, but there isn't an updated version available to download yet.

In my experiences when you have English voice acting over Japanese cartoons or games it ends up crap. I only watch Anime with Japanese voice acting and English subtitles. It sounds so much better IMHO, so I hope there is a option to have Japanese voice acting with English subs in Aion, that would be sweet.
Not just cartoons and games, i hate english dubbed movies as well. Like you, i watch them in the original language with subtitles.
