Funcom: Conan servers are 'booming' with activity

I got bored today and took up the 2 week free retrial. I quit shortly after release, I think I stayed for 2 months. I did the end game back then, which was very buggy, and a few sieges, also buggy.

The game has improved. The stability was a lot better, and I was getting pretty good frame rates. The item changes were also good, now gear feels like it has an impact. Instead, it felt like I could use the same gear as I did at 20 at 80, and it wouldn't be a big improvement.

I took up the free xfer too, and xfered to Set, which seemed to be pretty populated. However, I just don't think I will stick around as what I want in an MMO has changed over the last year. But I think this game could make a good turn around with the recent changes, it's just not for me.

Ok, let me get this straight.

They merge about 75% of their servers

Then they have a free trial

And during that free trial, they say the servers are 'booming'.

I would hope so, people are playing for free on servers that already have 3-4 servers worth of people on them.

This is the same guy that in July of last year said AOC had the most successful launch of any MMORPG to date. :)

The "Miracle Patch" which was released a week or so before Launch actually made the game worse and barely playable. 6 months of beta testing AOC was interesting but at least I was able to run the game. That last beta patch totally FUBAR'ed the game and it is just recently getting back in shape.

Interesting the "magic" patch made the game playable for me. Before that it really was unplayable in most of the game areas.

It's funny how players have started to talk about patch 1.06 already. A new miracle is coming soon!!!!! A miracle that will solve ALL the problems with AoC, yay!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Isn't that the same in any game? Once one patch is out people start to talk about the next. I have yet to have played a MMO where people haven't been talking about the next patch once a patch is released.

Id rather subscribe to a game that is constantly updating, adding new stuff and fixing it.  I dont care that " things shouldnt need to be fixed"

I dont care that it sucked at launch, i had the good vision to avoid the game then.

Really? Were now using the fact that funcom updates the game, is adding endgame content, and has an expansion coming soon as negatives?  You guys must be high.

Ye, I'm having a blast in Age of Conan these days, but doesn't mean I don't welcome further patching, fixing and balancing.

Will it ever become perfect? Nope (show me an mmo that is).

Yeah lol. I remember seeing one of his posts at around launch time. He was praising AoC like a crazy person :)

It's funny how some of these fans become almost blind. To them games like AoC are like a religion and they are devoted followers. Worst part is that these same people are giving potential players false information about AoC.

When I look at some of these posts, it would seem like AoC is the best game ever. However when I've talked to REAL people in REAL life, I've never heard comments like that. And don't give me that crap about complete turnaround, I tried the veteran re-eval and saw nothing special.

If you didn't like AoC last year, you won't like it today.

If you look at AoC's launch it is actually one of the better that have been. This is of course just if you look at it from the technical perspective which Funcom was doing. There was no big issues with servers, everything went smooth and so on. However we all know what happeneds a few weeks into the game once people started to reach the areas that wasn't polished. That was the time were the real issues started. However these weren't launch issues, they were issues due to the game being unfinished.

The red text I highlighted simply because you are doing a lot of the same, many of your posts contains nothing but lies about the game.  You and a few others of the people who don't like AoC are no better then the fanbois, there is a difference between discussing a game you don't like and straight out trying to bash it every chance you get. ;)

Playing: Battlefield - Bad company (Xbox360) Arma2, DFO (PC)
    On my radar: TSW, MO
MMO's played: SWG (pre cu/cu), WoW, AoC, WAR, DFO, Planetside
MMO's that I have tested: Lotro, L2, Aion, Ryzom

Several of your posts contains your views on AoC that simply isn't true. I have commented on these and you never dare to comment back on these. Does that make you a liar? Not necessary, you tend to overdo your view of what is true and false with AoC. These might just well be your point of view, but when you use them as a "fact" and fail to provide the data for it then they became white lies.

Go ahead and report me all you care if you feel I'm attacking you personally. I could really care less.

Also on launch people did leave for lack of content, but it wasn't the lack of content alone that drove people away. There was a poll on these forums why people left AoC. About 20% said lack of content,  18-20% said technical issues, and another 18-20% said I think it was because of perormance issues. The rest of the % was spread around different reasons, whilst the poll might not show the entire truth about why people left AoC it does show statisticly a rough number on what where the biggest reasons people left. You can claim most people left due to lack of content, but if I ask for some data to back that up you would not be able to provide it to me. And that is a white lie, you claim something that isn't completely true without being able to fully back it up. So how do you define most people, when you use the word "Most people" I assume you mean majority of those who left.

Oh and by the way.. at launch, most people didn't leave because of unpolished content. They left because of MISSING content or just plain old BORING content.

Most people being the majority that quit and you talked to them all?

Because I don't know one person that quit due to the reason(s) you listed... tho I only knew about 300 people through my alliance.

    /shrug

Its your opinion right up till the last two lines.  That may be why you or even some of the people you knew quit.  Nobody can say why "most" quit without talking to them all....

Well, BBB, since you brought it up. From reading your posts concerning Age of Conan, you seem to not fully grasp the difference between opinions and facts. So if people take your statements seriously, where you represent your opinions as facts and are unable to back them up, you could be seen as trying to pass a lie. Verbally attacking people that point this out to you, or trying to play the victim of gruesome accusations doesn't really fly either.

Keep critisising Age of Conan all you like, but as I said, separate fact from opinion and we might even have some civil arguments, rather than speaking past each other.

Can we all just get along?

    I'm asking nicely, please. :)

This EE guy should really shut up for good. I mean, his words bring disaster one way or another. Just the mere statements "the launch was very smooth" or "servers are now booming with activity" or even "AoC will outlive Anarchy Online" bring to the surface so many epiphenomenal facts that it would be much much better that Funcom let Craig do all the talking forever. I would have at least thought Avery thought of EE as a scammer and someone who besmirched AoC from the get-go, but instead he just had to copy & paste EE's yet again stupid and irresponsible statement of the month.

See what you've done Avery? By copy and pasting EE you're actually doing anti-propaganda for AoC. Why is the statement downright dumb? Because every idiot knows that after the server merges and win-back programmes it is completely logical that those few servers will of course have loads of activity.

Go and copy & paste some more EE's statements, making a thread out of his every sentence. I'm sure that MMORPG moderators will be grateful.

Most of you are missing the fact that servers are booming with activity atm. Who cares if they merged a bunch of servers and have a free trial going on? It still doesn't negate the fact that server activity is up. Comeon guys it's time to let the grudge go and give this game an unbiased try, theirs a free trial so you have nothing to lose.

    Mate, C'mon.

Read the rest of the post I ask some questions. Here I will say again:

"There is no doubt that many a welcome back email got sent out, and no doubt really that many out of that pool would give it a second look."

"The real question is can Age of Conan hang on to these people again from the updates that have made it into the game and those that will be coming in over the next couple of months? Will Patch 1.06 detailed out a bit in the recent community letter (looking at October release "ish") be enough coupled with Expansion details late August to keep people paying to play?"

For example they might be busy now, which I am finding they are, but is this enough as mentioned above.

So you see there is a point afterall, regardless of whom at Funcom told whoever this...

I even resubbed and I bitched at this game hard core for a while, and if you have seen me on here of late I have been a mean, unjust, cruel b-tard to a lot of games and peoples opinions. It's worth trying it out, also there is no way Aion is going to do what everyone says it will, it's a pretty grind fest of a game that I am hearing way to much negative reviews of already and the NDA isn't even lifted yet.

Which would be why we're hearing all the negativity. :p

Aion seems to have some step pve grinds but the real draw is the RvR combat. If Aion does RvR right, they will have a pretty good sized group looking forward to the game. I have access to the closed Beta, but have not made it past 25 yet.
