Cowboy MMORPG??

Me and a few friends have been discussing what would make us rush out and subscribe to a MMORPG, and we have through much debate came to the conclusion that the best theme for a MMORPG that has not yet been released has to be the theme of Cowboys and the Wild west.  Just imagine the possiblities behind such a game.. there could be the obvious things like duels, pistols at dawn, rodeo etc. But there could also be smaller more intricate things such as the milking of cows to feed your children and run your farm, the learning of the "Barman Lv. 15" in order to start learning "Beer sliding Lv.1" which funnily enough, allows you to stylishly slide an alcoholic beverage across the counter to the much impressed Sherrif "Pistols Charlie" to help him quench his thirst for his upcoming duel with the devious villan approaching the town. If you are bored with the normality of village life.. why not leave jump on top of your Lv. 33 noble steed "Black Thunder" and glide across the Wild West in search of towns to invade and rob as you turn into an evil rebel!  Not into the bad side of things?  Well, why not start training for your Sherrif badge by helping out throughout the village, helping the locals and playing your part in society to create a safe and functional living area against the invading indians!  So be you good, evil, cowboy, indian, villan, redneck.. there is no doubting that this is a fantastic concept for an MMORPG and me and my friends for one, would be straight out there to subscribe.. and im sure thousands more would do the excact same! image

Please leave some feedback on these ideas, and whether you think this is a good or bad idea for an MMORPG..

You are too late. The cancelled mmorpg Priest was supposed to be a cowboy/wild west themed mmoprg but the Asian company ditched it when they thought that it would not sell.

Sounds quite fun though, if done well, imagine the possibilities.

I was really looking forward to priest. I started a thread here asking about what hapened to the game, and I was told I shouldn't even bother looking for it.

My research has led me to believe they are still launching the game, except not in english. I'm told the games named changed to Rush Online. Well. My search ended onece I found the game's homepage... In Korean. "http://rush.joycity.com/"; It takes a while to load.

If anyone would like to continue the search please send me a private message. I want to know if this game is going to come to America.

Anyway, I like the idea of a cowboy game. But it shouldn't use the standard MMORPG way of fighting. "A is the attack button, now wait while you see damage numbers get swapped". I think the game should use an FPS Twitch-Style for combat.

    Imagine the PVP for it!

It is going to be more of a wild west simulator instead of a cartoony game. Really looks interesting, if it isn't vaporware, I'll play it.

For some reason, MMORPG.com doesn't have it on their MMORPG list. They did an article a month or so ago on it.

Any creator of things will tell you, it's not about the idea, but the execution. If a writer could make a best seller about a book about cooking apple pie, he would be the best writer in the world. Idea's have no berring on whether a game is good or bad. If someone were to execute to perfection, then yea, mucho goodness.

Priest was released overseas under a different name and is alive and well; the translation into English as Priest is what was scrapped.

There are Wild West Sim and Frontier 1859 that have been in development forever, but neither of them have $ or a publisher. They look as though they would be wildy fun and fresh games tho, if they can get financing.

But..anyone knows if those are going to be released or not??

There simply isn't enough depth in lore to support the hundreds of hours of gameplay necessary to make a MMOG engaging for multiple months.

It would, however, make a spectacular variation of Counterstrike gameplay. For that matter, it certainly could be an excellent P2P (that's peer-to-peer in this case) game. Something akin to Freelancer, especially along the lines of Freelancer: TNG.

It's all in the skill of the designer. You can take going to college, make it an MMORPG, and a skilled game designer would make it fun.

Oh c'mon, they would just need a kick ass writer......is Louie La'mour dead? ::::30::

Cowboys could be a fun game. You could have the untamed west and the railroad barons in the east. Put it during the civil war. Trying to rob a bank while the yankees are shelling the town with cannon fire sounds like great fun (thinking The Good the Bad and the Ugly here).

Is L'amour dead?  hahaha. Nice one.  I used to read his westerns when I was in junior high. If I remember right; broncos have better noses than bloodhounds and are better pets than dogs anyday, all the bad guys that look fat are really agile and strong instead of slow, there's always a woman in distress somewhere with money involved, and a six shooter is the best friend a man needs.

Unfortunately, I think he's rotting underground. I'm pretty sure I remember him giving up the ghost several years back. ha, I'd play a l'amour western though. ha

Oh yes! Any MMORPGs (or even RPGs) with Guns, I'm in!

There's too many fantasy MMORPGs and RPGs out there, it's getting a bit boring.  There's a lack of SciFi RPGs and MMORPGs, and only a few of them are actually enjoyable.  Making a western MMORPG or RPG would be something new and fun to see.

Heck you could even go into a more out-of-this-world style of Western RPG style.  Ever watched the anime Trigun?  Yeah it's a japanese anime, but the entire story takes place in a futuristic Western Cowboy style world.  That'd be something to see!
