Well TBC sold 2.4million in the first 24 hours and Wrath sold 2.8million in the first 24hours, so maybe.

In short just over 50% of wow players (in regions the expansions where avaiable in)  pre-ordered the expansions.. not bad.

Wrath went on to sell 4million in the first month.

Although I wager it will sell a lot of copies.  I expect Blizzard will sell less copies than WOTLK which is less than that of TBC. In the end, WoW will maintain the dominant market share, but the expansion itself will be a small change in profits overall...the real profits are maintaining monthly subscription levels

...so dont expect a large bump in blizz stock. I wager it will remain relativly the same

I don't think it will. I think WoW's subscription numbers will start to be in a decline by the time the next expansion comes out.

I'm actually surprised they haven't had more sales of their expansions when they release, seeing as current players basically NEED the expansion to continue playing the game. You can't chase the carrot without the new stick.

Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic
    Played: SWG, Guild Wars, WoW
    Playing: Eve Online, Counter-strike
    Loved: Star Wars Galaxies
Waiting for: Earthrise, Guild Wars 2, anything sandbox.

People have been saying this for years. The matter of the fact is that the number of subscribers in NA and EU continues to go up, despite the large numbers of people that are apparently quitting.

Therefore, how will the next expansion sell less if there are more people playing? I don't see your logic. No one knows when to expect dimishing returns on MMO sells since it's still a relatively new markets, so it's all basically speculation anyways as to when WoW's subscriber base will start to decline.

    As for now, it's not.

    P.S. : I hate WoW.

Considering the population has stabled out, I think the amount of copies sold in the first 24 hours will be around 2.8 -- the same as WotLK.

I can see there being less sold than before.

Okay I'll bet you, but if it isn't exactly 3,400,000 expansions sold, then you owe me $300.

I don't care what people have been saying for years, it's the first time I've said it and I think that is what will happen. There are some big MMO's coming out fairly soon, and WoW is getting up there in age(as far as MMOs go). I played WoW just before AoC and WAR came out. In my guild I saw a LOT of desire to find something new. Our guild basically shut down around those times because so many people left for these new games. History has shown, as I thought when I tried those games too, that they weren't that good.  Even though I quit and never came back, I found out a few months later that my old guild was right back in the swing of things, and a lot of the people that had left have returned because they all found AoC and WAR to not be very good. I think there are a lot of WoW players itching for something new, but nothing good has really come out. If games like AION turn out to be good, I personally think a decline will start by the end of this year.

investing in activision blizzard was the best move i have done especially in this economy.

As long as blizzard keeps making tons of money, i highly recommended investing in blizzard.

i have 100% full confidence that blizzard will reach that pinnacle for the new expansion :)

3.4 million is easy to reach with wow name brand.

That's interesting considering Activision Blizzard stock really hasn't done much.

Proof? With all of issues that were being had with instance servers being overpopulated, that would tend to point in the opposite direction of leveling out.

Ok, I'll take that bet.  I bet you $300 that the next WoW expansion will not sell 3.4 million copies in the next 24 hours.  Heck, let's get serious, and make it $3000.

of course blizzard stock is doing well, i got my dividend check through the mail from activision blizzard last week, being a shareholder that is....its the safest investment portfolio. I will pump more investment into activision blizzard before 3, sc2, and the next wow expansion releases. I have not lost my value of stocks since burning crusade yet.
